@Petaurista I can understand where the original commentor is coming from because they just went from fearless criminals who have no doubt been in these situations before to being scared because the dude was driving fast. But at the same time being scared is 100% understandable as well given they just met baby and he hasn't really said a single thing to them. Then again like I said, anyone would probably be terrified if this teenager they just met starts driving around like Ken Block through the streets of Atlanta

edgar wright in general has multiple masterclasses under his belt. Shaun of the Dead teaches students how to write brilliant, simple dialogue, direct and edit visual gags, and how to shoot a zombie film without lots of money. Hot Fuzz can teach courses on satire and parody, as well as layered dialogue, and itself is a brilliant murder mystery. Scott Pilgrim teaches how to make a video game adaptation as a film, even if its not a video game adaptation, as well as brilliant set and costume design, and how to edit a live action comic book film. Baby Driver is basically a film lecture on the benefits of practical effects, proper sound design, and stunt choreography. i do in some way feel like, in each movie of his, Edgar gets to know a new part of the film he's making. it feels like in SotD, he's most comfortable behind the camera and in the edit bay, in HF he's been working more with his writers, in SP he's more involved in set design and costuming, and in BD he's involved with his sound guys and his stunt people. Totally a theory, but there does seem to be different parts of each of his films that are individually strong--on top of his already great direction.

This movie was, and still is, a total riot from start to finish. My only complaint is that more time should've been given to develop the love story so Debora's decisions in the finale wouldn't seem so stupid, but that's such a small problem in very well-made movie. This scene alone makes this movie an instant classic! The stunt-work, cinematography, and soundtrack/editing are superb! I'm still in shock that my in-laws didn't care for it - makes me question who I married.

Watched the movie three times already and the opening scene now about six times. And this, dear kids, is a trademark of a very good movie. It is rewatchable. It has scenes and lines and soundtracks, that stay with you, even after you may have looked at it from another angle. It keeps on giving and giving the more you look at it. And for that genre and the love and dedication that went into this scene, I have nothing but the utmost admiration for everybody who was involved in making this.

@LeoS A particular movie is a trademark of a very good movie? You right there buddy? I mean I love Inglourious* Basterds don't get me wrong, Tarantino is just as much of a genius as Wright but you can't exactly say a whole movie is a trademark or a sign of a good movie 😂 Baby Driver does things Inglourious Basterds doesn't even dream of doing, and vice versa, it's a little mistaken to say either of them are medium defining though..

When this song came on in the theatre, me and my husband's jaws fell. Then I got really happy and excited. It wasn't that popular when it came out but was in my music collection in highschool in the 90's. I was the weird kid at school listening to old music and wearing bell bottoms. I mean, bell bottoms did come into fashion a few years later, but um... not so fashionable when I started wearing them. It was only that much weirder to people because of the English accent as an immigrant kid from the UK. Give a kid who has had to wear a uniform to school all her life the chance to pick out her own school clothes and... you get a weird kid.

Edgar Wright is a genius. Not only did he make sure that every split second has it's own detail, but this scene is extremely universal. I have played many songs of different types like eurobeat, driving hard bass, other rock/blues (like Bellbottoms), and every car handling movement, camera angle, head turn, and facial expression...they're all in sync. Outstanding job.

@SyenPie2 жыл бұрын
Im not sure what you meant by the last part. The sheer genius and brilliance of this intro scene is how insanely synchronized it is with the song "Bellbottoms". This includes not just BPM which is a given and which a ton of film scenes already implement, but the actual nuances and tempo changes and each bass kick each snare each lyric each guitar strum, it was as if the original song had been specifically designed and tailored for this movie, rather than the other way around. It is simply mindblowing and by far the most musically integrated scene I have ever seen. So when you saw the scene is "universal" and all the movements/angles/expressions are in sync with other genres and songs I'm not sure what you mean. If anything, the insane precision and tailor-made specificity of this scene for "Bellbottoms" means its LESS universal and loses all of its appeal when slapped onto a random song. The only thing it would "match" is probably the BPM I guess, or maybe some coincidental beats here and there. Btw I dont mean any of this offensively, I am a violin player and rhythm game enthusiast so I just wanted to really highlight the significance of this musically synchronized masterpiece haha. Also 1:53 this is something I only noticed just now but even the SHOTGUN blasts are perfectly in-sync

If that annoyed you then what should've already tipped you off earlier is the thought that no getaway driver would ever pick a bright red car for a getaway vehicle. The movie is largely fantasy, but if you accept that then you can enjoy it.
@Anonymous566577 жыл бұрын
Philip Bazan I can't accept that. Just reminds me of lame movies like Fast and Furious. Thanks for your input friendo

movie was gritty, completely bonkers, and very well acted. huge twist at end and oscar deserved for this movie, ansel, and kevin spacey. my god it was awesome!

Ansel definitely. Spacey no. They should've used Anthony Hopkins or a female like Laura Dern or Sandra Bullock
@sally.skellington137 жыл бұрын
Or better yet They should've made a plot twist, that Baby was the mastermind for all of it the whole time. Lol. I mean I love the movie, but I wish they would've made like a plot twist we couldn't see coming.

Because there are no stupid one liners. The music and the driving are the stars of the scenes.
@cjthomas4102 Жыл бұрын
Well mainly because most of the stuff is actually possible irl. Now getting everything to work out like this back to back would require alot of luck and skill but for the most part the driving was 100% possible. F&F they just jump out of planes and all that stupid crap. The most unbelievable part for me would be the spike strip part but at the right angle with the right car, it probably could happen though it might not work out and get a responding cops tires
