I mean I've known a friend who raises chickens... though they tend to have more protective mothers and the chicks linger by the mother. When they are of age, they tend to wander more and explore, which is somewhat dangerous. While fellow flock-mates might only bully them or push them aside, predators tend to be a concern. Though since he oversaw the raising of baby chicks, and due to these being domesticated chickens, they lived in more safe environment. He also told me, baby chicks die of depression (turns out, it's more of they just need constant care, especially since babies don't know how to do things, they even need to be taught how to eat and drink otherwise they starve to death) if there isn't someone to care for them 24/7. Hence the need of a hen. He lost 1/3 of his baby chicks due to this. As they need a mother. Was fun to see him take care of it. He had to take care of them constantly to ensure they don't die off. Though I came to be fond of how he described how the roosters were near suicidal in their courage, preferring death over disgrace, then again it's more of a sense of duty and instinct to protect their flock... to the point they'd put themselves in harm's way and dying is more of well, them being unable to beat the threat, I doubt they wanted to die, but they try to do their best. I always found it quite interesting to hear how hens raise batches of chicks. And usually raise up to like 9 or something because it's expected that most will perish in natural conditions, but in a domestic environment, all are guaranteed to survive. It's even interesting to witness the babies who turn into adolescent chickens fight. Especially the males, who begin to fight since a young age. Developing rivalries, but sometimes the roosters can be united against common enemies, such as other predators like coyotes or dogs or cats. My friend compares chickens to clans. United when facing a common enemy, but divided every other time. As well as stating how fierce and honorable the chicken is. More courageous than how people make it out. From his descriptions especially with how his roosters can fight off hawks and eagles, I ought to say that calling someone a chicken is an honor. Because a chicken is willing to be brave to the point it is fearless of death as it will die to protect it's flock. As some will be brave and fight to the bitter end. Like most animals do, as every living being (at least in nature) fights like hell itself to survive. Giving it their all, because in a cruel world where death lurks around every corner, it's a constant war for their very life.

I ran out and saw a wild fight taking place and ,the young chicks and ducklings are under the bushes and within the flower bed head down hiding and the rest of the adult chickens,ducks,cats and dogs are watching ... It was a match between the Oldest Hen in my coop vs My neighbour's Hen .

@justadogonachair61972 жыл бұрын
@@espammerofthealgorithmgods649 well, it depends on what the prey is. It's kind of hard to drown a fish, for example, and some eagles will hunt fish. They'll kill prey in most any way they can that's the most convenient, but usually drowning isn't convenient. When it is though, they'll do it.
@thepresence50412 жыл бұрын
@@espammerofthealgorithmgods649 not really. Usually eagles rip and tear Their prey apart with their beak and claws. But if the prey is big like mountain goat or a fox then eagle would pick them up high in the sky and throw them on the ground killing them. They would resort to drowning a small prey if they didn't eat for weeks and got injuried and very weak
