The unavoidable loss of Fenya devastated us all. We didn't realise her internal injuries were fatal. Adine and Dr Rogers and his Team did everything they could to try and save her but it was just not meant to be. How we all prayed they would become close and loving sisters. She passed surrounded by Love and Care at HERD. I do believe she is happy in spirit and she and Khanyisa will be together again one day 🩷🐘🐘🩷🙏

Jabulani has such a beautiful soul.. I remember how he would come to meet Khanyisa when she had just arrived and now he's looking out for Fenya too.. Two things impressed me with Fenya's latest journey in this video: 1. She retreated to the direction of her stable (home, safety), and to one of her keepers as if for reassurance that it is ok to go outside today; and 2. The lovely scene at the end of Fenya pulling (showing strength), and eating the grass (showing that her appetite has not diminished by her recent experience). All good signs, and I hope that Fenya, (with her friends Khanyisa and Lammie), continues to progress slow and steady with each new day, better than the one before.💕💕🐑🐘🐘

It must be impossible to know what she's experiencing day to day or even moment to moment. To have been so grievously traumatized 😖 Her baby body and psyche have been damaged bit are slowly healing; its's such a happy sign she has more energy. She has the best carers in the world, plus Lammie and the shining light of baby K to lead her in her recovery. I hope and pray she is able - however long it might take - to experience the love and safety of the herd, with the devotion and safety of the team working slowly with her so she might feel she has power in her actions and can begin to trust and want being alive again. @American Grateful it may not be advisable to stitch it up. if you have an old infected wound, you actually can’t and shouldn’t stitch it closed right away. It needs to be able to drain or it will build up an abscess-like pocket and do more damage. ...and often the edges are too dead to hold stitches anyway. With really big wounds, you can also put surrounding areas under too much strain or limit future mobility. Plus, she would need to be sedated, which is dicey if she is weak still. They may be able to eventually stitch some of it closed, or they may let it heal on its own. I trust their decisions on that course, a lot of factors go into that.

Khanyisa is so young baby still, 1,5 years. What she understands of Fenya's condition, difficult to say. Maybe she gets that Fenya is not okay, and is careful. I’m always reading how intelligent Ellie’s are and that they have impeccable memories. I bet Jabulani watches these babies remembering what happened to him . This is a wonderful progress- of course we are all inpatient to see that she is all right: but it will take probably couple months for her to recover. So happy she is eating and already understands that people are different- whatever (can’t call them who) she encountered before do not represent people. It must be difficult to realize the difference among the same species but she is doing it! Thank you Adine and the team! You are THE BEST!!!

Hiya Kim... she has her up moments and then low energy moments still... so not totally stabilised - but a lot better than that day, absolutely! Still a way to go... Hope all is well with you

It's soo wonderful to see Fenya out and about in the fresh air and sunshine. These creatures are such social creatures and I often wonder if Fenya is depressed. Such Trauma she endured. Her will to live must be strengthen. Hopefully soon enough she will be introduced to a female elephant that will offer her emotional support and that feeling of protection. So sweet

I feel so bad for Fenya. It's almost like she's looking at you and wanting your comfort but thinking "my mom told me not to talk to you humans". It's nice to see her outside like that with little Khanyisa. Eventually they'll spend their days together with the herd. Baby steps. She has a long way to go yet but we'll be here every step of the way, cheering her on. :)

The video from Sept. 28th from last year bubbled up in my view list today of Khanyisa being joyfully greeted by the herd so I watched it again. Looking forward to Fenya being greeted in the same way some day soon. It was wonderful to see Fenya and Khanyisa checking each other out.
