This is a very sad time in the nursery. All over the world people hoped and prayed for her to get stronger, but I had a sense of how weakened she was by the horrific snare injuries and lack of food and water. That culture is a travesty which HAS TO BE STOPPED. Now I wonder how Khanyisa is processing this loss. Thank you so much for the work you all do.

@@jeancoughlin5490 My sentiments exactly. So DAMN WRONG that this precious baby experienced that cruelty and ultimately lost her life bc of ppl's SELFISHNESS. I will always remember her BEAUTIFUL eyes, their perfect shape and her long lashes. Fenya was a beauty. She had such a sweet spirit, as well, interacting w/Khanyisa, lammie + the herd. She was a warrior princess -- brave enough 2let down her defenses to become vulnerable 2u, 2avail herself 2your care -- even w/her man caused wounds. What an incredible ellie she was...Rare, indeed...I will never forget u, Fenya... Yet, I could tell after a while that she was struggling to retain her progress (1 step forward, 2 steps back, in a way) and she seemed 2b losing ground. She gave it her all and so did all of you!...You all at Herd and the Veterinary Team -- You are some of the BEST OF HUMANITY!!! 💞🐘💞 All I can say is I LOVE YOU ALL FOR LOVING + CARING 4THESE WOUNDED, TORTURED BABIES. Words just aren't enough.......💔💔💔 There is a saying: "To grieve deeply is bc we loved deeply." That says how we all feel right now.💔🐘💔 To Fenya, you are at Peace in heaven now, angel. That poor creature was so depleted. She needed to eat, drink, walk, forage, bathe; but every activity exhausted her more, and she had no reserves. She tried so hard to cooperate with you, to respond to your love and your desires for her. In the end, she let go of this tiring world and found the relief of grateful sleep. God bless you for your love and care for that worn and weary baby. You did well.

So, this is how she left us. Not in the dirt, bleeding and starving to death, but in the arms of love and kindness with her every need being met. Her herd donated blood to her, so she died as one of them. Many are sad to see her go, but I’m happy that when her time was up, it was at HERD. You guys are amazing and I’m sorry for your loss. Dear Adine and Carers: You did the best that anyone could, given the state that poor Fenya was in upon arrival. Perhaps in better times, volunteer observers around South Africa could sign up to form an "early warning" network that would spot distressed elephant calves at an early stage. Then cases like Fenya's would not be in vain. Dear HERD: I have the utmost admiration for you. Dear Fenya: Rest in Peace.

Seeing these magnificent creatures and the people like Adine and her team of humans who dedicate their lives to helping them, helped restore my once lost faith in mankind. I can't look at an elephant, zebra, giraffe, peacock, leopard, tiger, flamingo, etc and not believe that a master creator painted their beauty with his wondrous brush. Then I look at a blobfish or a platypus, and is makes me chuckle in believing God also have a sense of humor! A world without wildlife and nature would be a dark world, to me. I can't believe that such perfection could just be random. And, like you, people with such pure and heartfelt goodness in their souls like Adine and Joshua and Herman and the rest are the best there are.

Fenya's death is a big loss, indeed. But her death is not in vain. In her short life, she got our attention turn into the wildlife, especially the situation of wild elephants in Africa and the endangered species all around the world.

@@herdelephantorphanage very sad . But please why did she have to walk down into that sand ? Being so weak and barely standing?😧
@malindaallen7183 жыл бұрын
@@hellok7877 I questioned that , too. Physical movent is important, but I believe that she was so starved that she had muscle-wasting. Everything she did absorbed more energy than her body was capable of taking in, and muscle wasting probably continued eve.n as they tried to nourish her. The heart is a muscle. She was on a downward spiral. Her organs may have been shutting down before she even arrived at the Rescue. My personal feeling was that she needed less stimulation and more rest.

Adine and the amazing carers made her last days the best ever. She felt safe, loved , and even part of a family. As a result of all the hard work from the gang she even tried her best to keep going. God chooses when it’s time to go and Fenya is amongst angels telling them all the positive things she experienced in her last days. Karma will come to those who set out to harm these beautiful souls .

Please remember that even though she didn’t trust her caregivers completely, she did know that she was fed, had a warm place to sleep, and had medicine that helped the pain go away. It was her time to pass on, even though we’d rather she stayed.

Thank you so much for sharing what can only be a painful story of a beautiful little girl. I cried. I think she was just too traumatized and I’ll after living with that snare and the loss of her family. It’s tragic. But she knew love, caring and humanity in her last days. You did everything you could and the herd would have welcomed her I believe. Thank you for the work you do. It must be days of happiness with profound sadness. She was loved right to the end.

I know you were all so wonderful and caring, I just hoped and prayed she would survive after all the suffering and trauma she went through. RIP little one. I shall donate in your memory when I can stop crying.. I so hope that people will realize how terrible they to animals and learn kindness and respect. The earth belongs to all animals not just the human kind.

Adine, my sincerest condolences on the loss of Fenya. She was such a fighter, I prayed that she would pull through. But I know God holds a special place in Heaven for all the magnificent animals He has created here on Earth for us to enjoy and protect. And I know that that is where Fenya is now. Stay Safe. From Ontario, Canada, Jenn.

Life's reality is that we don't always get a happy ending, but that does not diminish the heroism, compassion and grace of those who strive to make it so. If there is a light that should shine through the darkness of the present clouds, it is that this terribly wounded, and frightened little calf did not die in the wild, alone, starving and without anyone to try to help her, but surrounded by caring people and another little calf doing everything they could to help her. It was clear by the time she would take the bottle, allow her wounds to be treated, and respond to the kindness she was being shown, that the team had had an impact on her even if it is still a tragedy that the hill to her full recovery was just too steep for the little one to climb. Bravo Zulu!

I think this little angel, Fenya, experienced so much cruelty along with the loss of her mother and herd, it was just too much for this baby. I felt her pain every day I would see her wounds and how scared she was at first. We recently lost a beloved family dog so when her glucose kept going down, I knew she was in serious trouble. But still, I prayed and prayed. Honestly, I cannot think about it too much because it makes me so sad and so angry at the same time. I just will never understand human cruelty but I will always do whatever I can to stop it and care for innocent animals like Fenya and countless others. I hope she is in Heaven with her mama and I hope to meet her some day. And God bless people like you who actually care and try to help these incredible animals that deserve so much better.
