Is there some kind of Networks of baltic homesteads? I consider starting one by myself or get involved in one already up. What are your experiences being new in Estonia? Maybe you could talk or write about it sometime? Wish you all the best
@The.Land.of.Slow.Living Жыл бұрын
@@evibertolait8262 Hi Evi! I don't think there is one and have been considering doing something like that as well. Could be really interesting to see each others places/ learn from each other/ or meet up somewhere. There is much to say about our experience here in Estonia, and I will consider making a video about it! Might be interesting. Are you yourself in the Baltics as well?

Aaaah! Your babies are adorable! We had some of our own last year… they’ve grown now and think they are dogs! 🥰 We also have a self built homestead in Estonia, on the main land. In Lääne-Virumaa. Väike Silla Talu (Little Bridge Homestead) When we bought our place, we first lived here on our school bus camper, which we bought and converted with this in mind. It took all nearly 18 months to build our cabin. Our land was totally wild and massively overgrown with huge weeds, it had not been touched for more than 50yrs. It’s all still a work in progress, we’re learning as we go and taking each challenge as it comes. I’ve been meaning to message you over on Patreon for a while now…. Wondered if you might like to meet up at some point, maybe visit our place. We’d love to also visit yours! I’m totally inspired to try and build using straw/thatch bales and earthen plaster. I wasn’t sure they would hold up in our climate, but yours seems to be fantastic!!

Wow you have such an interesting story!! Would be lovely to meet up one day, we should certainly do that :) Strawbale and earthen plaster is a wonderful technique, as far I as I know used in different places in Estonia! Its great, but also really hands on and time consuming (but addictive in some way) Best of luck to you and hopefully we can keep in contact. I'm curious what you have been able to build up so far!

@@The.Land.of.Slow.Living I’ve watched all of your videos, it was amazing to see you make your little place into a patch of heaven and I look forward to new ones each time you post them! Watching you build your hen house and then your cabin really inspired me to give it a go…. Thinking of a greenhouse/conservatory style, wraparound extension to the front and side of our cabin. With half earthen walls and glass above, the whole way around, for numerous uses, of course, including how lovely it will look. Finding smaller straw bales is quite the task though isn’t it! I haven’t managed to find anyone at all in my area that makes them in smaller sized bales. Only the huge round ones, which we buy for our goats and horses. The thatching reed bales were a great idea though…. Have they held up just as good? Any reason why you wouldn’t recommend them? Absolutely, let’s stay in touch and make a plan for spring time. Our place is definitely still very much in its infancy. We’ve been out here since July 2020 and it took us a good couple of months to even make space to access the land and begin to come up with ideas and plans as we learned more about each area and worked out what the land offers and how we could take advantage of its quirks and natural beauty. Slowly the land took some kind of shape and we managed to begin some building projects. My ‘To Do’ list is never ever ending though, so many things I want to get done and just never enough hours in the day. Also it’s just myself and my partner Martin, so it’s a slow progress, but progress nonetheless 🥰 I’ll send over some pictures if you like… what’s your email address? You could message me over on Patreon if you prefer. (I’m one of your Patreons. Happy to support another homestead, trying hard to make it work!) I believe it’s the same account, my name is Nell Coulter. Looking forward to speaking with you some more. Have a great day 😊

Spring is in the air but only sensible through the longer daytime hours. It's still around freezing here, with regular snow and hailstorms ;) Can't wait either!

I had goats in my youth, some days before babies arrive, the volume of the mother's udder start to increase with milk, I supose you saw it, but you did'nt know when the babies will arrive?, its seems that the mother instinctly wait the morning, when we the humain come and see them, for us, it was really regular in a few years, and many babies, only one had them through the night. I saw this process explained.
