-In general, gorillas live 35 years in the wild. In captivity they get better food, medical care and have no predators. Life expectancy can range from 50-60 years.
GORILLA CONSERVATION - one of the easiest things you can do to help gorillas is to recycle your old cell phone or other hand held electronic device. Recycling electronics helps support gorilla conservation programs. Cell phones and other electronics contain a mineral called coltan (it is short for columbite-tantalite). 80% of the world’s Coltan is mined in central Africa, which is wild gorilla habitat. Forests are being strip mined for this highly sought after mineral, with illegal mining even taking place in protected gorilla areas. BUT! Coltan is reusable! Clear out that old cell phone drawer! Our hope is, that the more and more electronic devices are recycled, this can slow demand for new Coltan to be mined in Africa.
Some estimates report gorilla populations have declined 25% in the past 20-25 years.
Kayembe was the first zoo born gorilla at the Cleveland Zoo.
Kunda is the second baby born in Cleveland in less then 2 years.
Jameela is the first baby gorilla born via c-section at the Fort Worth Zoo.
The Conservation status of the Western Lowland gorilla is “Critically Endangered”.

I love this family, even as much as I love the baby elephants and rhinos. I think that the more I watch the same ones, the more I love them. If I got involved in other groups of animals, I'd probably never get anything else done in my spare time-yet, I keep thinking about these funny penguin movie I saw, where they were stealing each other's nest rocks...reminds me of humans too!

Time is the key… 10-1130 (in or outside) closer you get to 1130 gets closer to nap time. if outside catch their feeding /training sometime between 12:30- 1:30, it only lasts 10 minutes or so.

A little Dippity-do and Jameela’s curls can be styled into a 50s flip! She is so cute! Does Mokolo ever play with the babies? Kayembe sure wants to. Freddy is amazing. She is still very spry and capable to raise those babies. I loved how Kunda looked over her shoulder at mom before trying a new adventure. Permission or escape?!

We are also N.W. about 150 miles from Atlanta and I’m hoping the hurricane 🌀 calms to a tropical depression but we’ve had them still be a hurricane 1-2 when the worse side for the winds hit. It was Opal and it took 8 days before power was restored. I’m don’t think it’s going to be anywhere near that bad but after you been through a couple that we’re still hurricane 🌀 force, I guess you’re always a little more nervous. I’m praying for everyone and no loss of life, property can be replaced, tree’s cut up and moved plus power restored but we don’t want any death toll. God’s Blessing’s To All. ♥️🦍🙏🏼♥️

Oh what a beautiful shot Larry! Freddy who first with 1 hand, then 2, easily tips Kayembe over on his belly, to completely grab his booty! Yes, motherly love from here to the moon but if there is food to be had... 🤣, you are my dear son but you can go play somewhere else for a while, hop! And the beautiful full curls in Jameela's neck are beautiful. Jameela's strength to climb from the ground onto Freddy's back is beautiful to see. She is becoming more and more independent. Yes, N’neka is his biological mom. She just didn’t have the maternal drive to care for a baby.

Once you step up to Care for another baby, that baby is yours, I don’t like the word foster as I was raised in a foster home. These babies will love Fredrika as if they were born to her. The creator has sent them another way for her to love them and them to love her Amazing just amazing. You are. Freddy.
