A friend of mine had a baby last week. My friend's name is Bláthnaid (blaw-nid) which means "little flower" or "blossom" in Irish. She named her daughter Theadora Bridie Blossom! 3 really cute names from a book series I grew up with is “Ramona” “Beatrice” and “Roberta”, the sisters from the Ramona and Beezus book series. It makes me remember being in first grade and my teacher letting me borrow them one by one from her personal collection to read at home! Her name is Mrs. Carlton and she was truly one of the greatest teachers that supported all of her students in what ever academic field they loved whether it was reading, writing, math, or art! She got me reading and writing stories by the end of that year and even though I’m 18 now no one can get me to stop writing stories 😂 so there’s the little back story of those 3 names!

I really like Lyra, the books were pretty awesome and I love the idea of daemon. Pan was sooooo cute 😊 I'd rather choose Coraline if it were pronounced the way you did :3 Mr. Gaiman got some pretty nice female names in his books. Ivaine and Oonagh or Una sound quite sweet, too, though I'd probably choose them for characters rather than babies ^^' Some names from Astrid Lindgren's books would probably make my list, too. I somehow really like Birk or Birka for a girl. Some more common names like Mia or Ida (and those would be reminiscent of my grannies names, too) Another good place to search for names would be Michael Ende's books, I guess. The Neverending Story was the first fantasy book I ever read and I think maybe Auryn or Nessaja would make good names, too. Or Momo? I know that's not a book, but right now I really love Linea, which I first stumbled across when watching "Island of the lost souls". Maja or Maya is another that would make my list for girls (My parents wanted to name me that, but decided against it, because of a rather chubby, cute, little, animated bee, that was rather popular around the time I was born)

Here's a tricky one: names with diacritics, ie graves, cedillas, acutes (eg Renée). Apologies if you've done this before.

As a tween I used to read Barbara Cartland novels when I would visit my grandma. Her characters always had really interesting names, and she wrote hundreds of books.

How amazing that you've mentioned the name 'Lyra' and then that's what Ed Sheeran has named his daughter ❤

Could you please do a list of names that are more popular for girls or are traditionally girls names that could work well for boys? Like Hazel that you mentioned, I think it would be so cool on a boy. I wish names could go both ways instead of only going boy-->girl.

Hi SJ I just need some help 🙈 I gave birth to twins on Monday and I think we have decided their names (Edie and Apollo). I just need some middle names!!! We can’t decide!!!! We still have about 5 weeks until we have to register them but I would love to have their names sorted!! I have 3 other children Nancy, Ace and India and I prefer longer middle names as all my children have quite short names as you can tell !! But I think I would like a shorter name for Apollo?! Just wondered if you have any suggestions x Thank you so much xxx Laura 💕

So Coraline in the context of the Gaiman book still has the ending pronounced like you would in Caroline. Also if you've not had a chance to watch the stop-motion film adaptation I highly recommend it! How you pronounced it here does make more sense if you want a more traditional pronunciation and is absolutely gorgeous. Coraline also appears as a character in the 1849 opera Le torédor. It's a fairly old French diminutive of Coral and I love that something like a modern children's book helped revive it. Even if it happened because of a typo. I love that you mentioned Mildred and Ethel. I adore so many names from Worst Witch! I've particularly fallen in love with the names Enid and Sybil. I only learned about this series because of the Netflix show and now I'm hooked. Like Harry Potter is chopped liver to me now, Worst Witch is where it's at. 😂 I would 100% use Hazel for a boy. But I'd also use names like Vivian, Whitney, and Rose for a boy. Some favorites of mine are from Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfornunate Events. Isadora, Violet, Beatrice, Josephine, Sunny, Esme, Kit, Georgina, Friday, Jacques, Klaus, Jerome, Montgomery, Fernald, Duncan, Ishmael- Those books are a name lovers playground. My absolute favorite name if we have another boy is Edmund- which pops up in everything from Shakespeare to Jane Austen to C.S. Lewis; the first time I saw the name being when I read The Chronicles of Narnia in grade school. My partner came to love it for the protagonist in The Count of Monte Cristo, Edmond. We're still debating which spelling to use.

I love Austen for a girl (Jane Austen), Darcy for a boy (Pride and Prejudice), Blythe as a gender neutral name (Anne of Green Gables), Baker (the Great Gatsby), and Scarlet (Gone With the Wind). I also love Hazel and Anderson as you mentioned :)

I love Darcy so much! In the Marvel Thor movies, there is a best friend character named Darcy and I think it is so cute on a girl as well!

Villain inspired baby names. Maybe villains that people actually like. Loki, Marvolo, etc.
