That was my mom's secret to long hair... baby oil. My sister literally had hair down to her ankles at 16. At the age of 8, mine reached below my butt. Our hair was thick enough to snap hair ties. She would use baby oil in our hair all the time. We even bathed in it which left our skin feeling so soft and supple. She passed away in her 30's. If she was still alive, I would know all her secrets. I'm going back to baby oil. Mama knows best. I've been using coconut oil and castor oil. It doesn't even compare.

@@everybodyhateschrismania7970 She used it on our wet head. If we still needed a bit more while our hair was dry, she used more. As of now, I went back to coconut oil. I use a ton on my wet head. When my hair is dry, I finger comb. I no longer use combs or brushes since they cause breakage and excessive shedding. Now it's tailbone and getting longer. Finger combing and oil is the way to go if you want your hair below your butt.

Btw, silicones is the worst. It may feel good at first, but can cause irreversible damage in the long run.

I shampoo and condition my hair once every week and a half to 2 weeks. After my hair is conditioned and rinsed, I apply coconut oil to my wet head. I put a good amount too. I then let it air dry. After it is completely dry, I finger comb. That's it. I stopped using baby oil since I prefer the healthier route. I never use heat or dye either. Only product is coconut oil and Vo5 to shampoo and condition. Follow this and your hair will grow long and healthy.

Oils feel different because they lubricate the hair and don't provide moisture at all.

Not all oils are supposed to "provide moisture". First off, mineral oil (baby oil, vaseline, etc) is VERY curl enhancing. Second, Mineral Oil works by providing a barrier on your skin or your hair so that your moisture can't escape.

I thought mineral oil was really bad too, but then i watched DR. DRAY cos she always does SCIENTIFIC REVIEWS. And said MINERAL OIL is the safest to use even in the most sensitive parts of the skin around the eyes. So it's good for EYE MAKE UP REMOVER😁

I used baby oil in my children's hair after they was born. Then used baby lotion with mixed with baby oil and they smelled like baby 24/7. The baby oil and water kept their hair soft curly and shiny. I used it in my hair as well as Castor oil. It didn't bother our hair it just smelled like baby.

The oil is a sealant! Why didn’t you use your usual leave in conditioner or stylers? Mineral oil/ Grease is an excellent sealants not moisturisers.

Because I just wanted to test the baby oil. And it most likely would’ve been the same result. Oils do nothing for my hair which is why I don’t seal with oils and only use creams.

Hazel Goddesss Fair enough, I used to think you and I had similar textures, I feel the same way about oils but I recently starred applying grease whipped into my shea butter to my ends and I have seen a significant reduction in knots and breakage.

I use it on my girls hair after i put a leave in i put a lil baby oil on the scalp massage it and work it down not too much dont use to much or its gready mess and then i use a styler and a gel and it turns out really nice

Its worth a thought though considering oils really only have two function so far with natural hair: moisture and sealing. We already know moisture ain't it.
