Baby Orangutan Gets Milk Splashed

Baby orangutan Myrtle has grown big and strong and in this video you can see why - the sweet baby orangutan gets fed on demand by exceptional experience mom Sarikei. This look back at baby Myrtle when she was just 2 months old shows her feeding contentedly, stopping when she had enough, only to get sprayed in her face 0:50 by moms milk !
Baby Myrtle lives with Mom - Sarikei, Dad - Willie, Brother - Tombol, Aunt - Leia, and Half Sister - Dot in The Realm Of The Red Ape at Chester Zoo.
In this video 2 month old Baby Myrtle is totally dependent on mom for food and transportation.
Sarikei is a calm and relaxed experienced mother and instinctivley knows how to care for her baby girl and helps her grow big and strong.
This footage was recorded late October 2023 and is from a fairly long series taken when Myrtle was nearly 2 months old
The footage takes time to upload to the channel so is being released in between more current video of Myrtle and her family
More current footage of Myrtle has been released on the channel alongside this earlier series - so don't worry she isn't going backwards on her development this is just older previously unseen video.

Birth of critically endangered orangutan at Chester Zoo
Chester Zoo is has a very successful record of Orangutan births at the zoo and most of the Orangutan Mothers are able to rear their own young without the assistance of zoo staff, this is largely due to the expert care and facilities the World Class Zoo provides for the animals.
The current animal population have had valuable experience with babies and have observed relatives caring for young, using this learning and experience to enable them to rear their own offspring
Critically Endangered Orangutans
Bornean Orangutans have been considered critically endangered since 2016 with an only an estimated 100,000 left in the wild. They are seriously in danger of extinction which makes the birth of this new baby orangutan very special indeed

Baby Orangutan hair is very thin when they are born, it gets longer and thicker as they grow and mature Baby Myrtle is 2 months old in this video, there are more recent videos of her on the channel showing how her hair has grown however it only gets thicker when they are much older, The Sumatran orangutans seem to have much longer and thicker hair with a more orange tone than the Bornean Orangutans, there are videos on the channel of Sumatran Orangutans, that you can check out using this link kzbin.info/aero/PLsR7GgVPI1QMIus3A0UlhbyffjPDpuvgF
