*Please note this is our very affectionate 8-1/2 years old female Chocolate Lab. She is advanced obedience trained, has been enthralled with people (children & adults) her entire life, and always follows a multitude of voice commands. We've had our dog since she was 10 weeks old - she is active, healthy, neither possessive nor guarding, nurtured/loved every day, and as a result is a very well-adjusted family canine. Nevertheless, as responsible parents, we researched, spent months acclimating both the baby and the dog together prior to this special moment, and we always have, and continue to closely supervise all interactions between our baby and lifelong family pet. We believe our dog to be a wonderful part of our child's young development (as you see here crawling early!) but advise all parents to do to their fact-finding research, consult professionals with any questions or concerns, and always follow the advice of the experts (pediatricians, veterinarians, and certified dog trainers) before placing a child and dog together in any scenario in or outside the home. As trivial as it sounds, time does heal. You are allowed to grieve, this is a big loss in your life. After a time, remember your Mum would want you to re-join life and move forward. She wants you to have a healthy, productive life! It might help to write down some memories of your Mum. When you are having a very low day, go look at a memory you have written down and spend some time remembering it. Be thankful of all the wonderful memories you have had. Not everyone’s Mum was worth remembering, so consider how fortunate you were to have her as your Mum. If you are a Troll Karma will triumph!

Watched my sister first crawl when I was 10 still my happiest memory. She had been warming up for a solid 10 minutes. Her little face was all determined. She rocked rocked.back and forward faster and faster. I was praising her. And she shut her eyes and.... pushed herself backwards. She opened her eyes started to smile, realised she moved further away, looked horrified and burst into tears for a good minute. Then she laid there and tested everything again before trying again 10.minutes later she worked out forward and giggled her head off.

They sure are cute....but #2 on the cutest dogs list. Lol. Golden Retrievers are my #1 . We lost our 13 y.o. Golden Girl, "Abby" 6 months ago and not a day goes by that we don't think of her. Tomorrow, Sat 11/01/14 we are picking up our new Golden puppy and can't be any more excited. Not replacing our Abby Girl, but honoring her with the addition of another Golden to our family. We think we will name her "Daisy".

I love small humans. Everything they do is for the first time. They crawl, they speak, they take a few stumbling steps. You only do something for the first time once. Except laugh. Babies have this joyous manic laugh for about six months. There is nothing more universal than a human baby laughing, it is a primal laugh. And we spend the rest of our lives trying to find that laugh again.

We had a lab/greyhound mix who sniffed both babies all over when brought home from the hospital, and thereafter was their loving nanny. She never once growled at them when they used her to balance themselves with their first steps. Just wagged her tail and nuzzled their ears. The kids were 10 and 12 when she died. We all laid on the floor at her side as she breathed her last, telling her thank you for being such a sweet friend & protector to us all. She was an angel from heaven.

It's a dog that's knows its position in the family. If you look you can see it glances in the direction of the camera, not exactly at it, but anyone who has had a dog knows this little look, it's one of slight uncertainty and perhaps concern. Not in the bad way, but of acknowledging that what it is that interests them is not theirs to take/play with/eat/whatever. In this case the dog does not feel confident that it is allowed to engage with the baby, but since mom/dad doesn't stop the baby or tell the dog to leave, it finally feels free to lightly engage the baby once it gets close.
