When in reality the baby sea turtles manly hatch at night not the daytime. and they do that because there are less predators at night and also because they follow the light from the moon which helps guide them to the ocean. I was meaning 'lower' vertebrates: reptiles, fish and sharks who DON'T practice intraunterine cannibalism (seven gills and tigers can spew out over 100 pups sometimes) (I'm not sure about giant amphibians). Mammals invest a lot of energy on their offspring and put in a lot of care to ensure their survival. I think I heard that among things like Nile and Saltwater crocs something like 90% of their biomass gets 'passed on' to other animals in the form of food, whether eggs or hatchlings. I'm guessing the same applies to large constrictors like anacondas or pythons.
