Baby Seal Drags Heavy Net

Seven seals with different entanglements show the different sorts of rubbish in our oceans. Seal number 3 is lucky to have made it to the beach. Dragging such a heavy net around its neck gave the baby seal no chance of making it. He could barely move. Weighing more than a wet rescue net, the net would’ve eventually killed the baby seal. Once again, our Leatherman Raptors had no problem cutting through the entanglement. 🦭

I admire people who rescue animals. This is the way to exemplify the Golden Rule to its fullest. Most people claim to be against animal cruelty, yet their everyday actions don't align with their claims. If you want to walk your talk, then be vegan. Veganism is a moral stand against animal exploitation and cruelty for selfish pleasure or profit and includes reverence for life. Being vegan offers the best opportunity to develop one's empathy to the fullest. Empathy is something we should all be working hard to develop, seeing that it has nearly gone extinct in our species.

You saved so many lives that morning. I remember a previous video where Naude and Dylan found a dead pup strangled from dragging big heavy netting. The pup in this video was exhausted and you got to him in time, thank goodness. Thank you OCN, amazing rescues!!

I seen that one. The one where two pups were connected and the one was dead, but they saved the other one. Just heartbreaking, I cried over that. I even had to stop watching these videos for awhile. I can't handle children, animals being tortured, suffering.

That has got to be the most large and heavy entanglements you've ever done in one run. Usually there's only one or two big entanglements and the rest are thin lines or straps, but this was all massive amounts of debris weighing these creatures down.

We are unfortunately not solving the problem, but only treating the symptoms of the plastic crisis with our rescues. The goal of these videos is to show the consequences of this pollution and create a change to tackle its roots - namely our addiction to single-use plastics, the lack of law enforcement at sea, and the shortcomings of the recycling industry.

Gosh, guys, you did so well making a lot of rescues in one go, fishing lines, a piece of clothing or something? and that horrible, heavy net, that that poor little seal was dragging around with him.
