Baby Seal Saved From Fishing Line

Quick and easy. With so many seals around, there is no shortage of entangled animals. After securing the target, we continue to scan for other victims. The seal’s entanglement is fairly new and has not hurt him severely yet. It's always a personal victory for us when we beat the odds and rescue a victim of plastic pollution before any serious damage occurs.

The biggest thing I have noticed over the period I have been watching you guys (since about 300,000 subs) is the massive increase in confidence when handling the seals. Your technique has developed in leaps and bounds making the experience for the animals less stressful and the rescues very quick.

That is the amount of seals rescued only from ghost fishing gear. Not including other entanglements such as plastic straps. Our efforts a just a drop in the bucket compared to the millions of tonnes of trash entering the world's oceans every year.

Those babies are so sweet... I was thinking about how you could spread your message about what you're doing being mitigation and not solving the actual problem which is debris in our oceans, especially plastic. In many of your videos I see what appear to be seal corpses. The ones you weren't able to get to in time. I was thinking that a montage of those that zooms in to show the ropes and wires they were entangled in before they died might really impact people. Also, you often state "facts" about how much plastic and/or garbage is going into the oceans every day, or percentages of sea creatures that are entangled/affected by it all. But I haven't noticed any suggestions of concrete measurable steps people can take to begin to reverse and resolve the issues. This would be very helpful.
