Seal "Julius" FINALLY rescued!

It's not often that a seal earns a name at Ocean Conservation Namibia, but Julius was quite the exception. Antoine and Naude had seen him while on patrol for the first time 3 weeks before, and had failed to net him on the first attempt. Although he was carrying a huge burden around his neck, he was still surprisingly fast and stayed in a dense pack while running to the ocean - making it impossible for the rescuers to get close enough.
This was the same case on the second and third rescue attempts too.
Julius was then not seen again for another 2 weeks - in which time Antoine had also departed back to France.
A few days ago Naude and Denzil spotted him once again, in his usual resting area. They were excited, nervous and scared all at the same time. Julius was loosing conditioning and they had to make this one count.
After a drive-in by car and a short chase Naude managed to get him in the net. He had so much rope around his neck that he actually got stuck on the way in! They got to work and soon cut all the ropes off his back. The next problem was that there were many ropes going through his mouth too, and this would be a difficult and dangerous area to work. Luckily Naude found an old hole in the net near his mouth and was able to cut the ropes one by one through the hole.
They then dragged him higher up the beach - they were worried there might still be ropes remaining, and if this was the case, they needed to be able to get him back in the net again.
There was still one rope through his mouth, which came loose when Naude grabbed the bundle of ropes dangling below.
This rescue will go down as one of the most memorable so far for Ocean Conservation Namibia. 🦭

Yes. We should require that the fishing industry use natural, bio-degradable fishing tools, like they did up until the 19th century and early 20th century. They shouldn't be allowed to make this "money saving" indestructible crap, that they don't actually need. As they can and would be able to operate happily with tools that degrade over time. Notice that they don't worry about the stuff that falls off of their boats, which is most of what this is, because they have such a surfeit of supplies. If they worked with biodegradable products, they would have more than their needs met, both functionally and fiscally. They've simply allowed greed to overtake them. And I don't mean making things that erode on contact when I say "biodegradable". The products could be made to last months or years. They simply shouldn't be made to last decades, centuries or millennia - unless of course, they comprise the hardware/s. The fishing line, wire, packing materials should all break down, and shouldn't be made of/contain poisons that would pollute the oceans when they do break down, as a portion of them are likely to enter our sacred oceans. They should be made of plant materials that would simply enter the next phase of the natural nitrogen cycle, upon disintegration.

It's actually impressive how fast and easy one could grab a seal there. If humans had to rely on seals, they'd have plenty. Sprint for 15 seconds, grab a juicy one and that's it for the next couple of days or longer.

Sadly, there are some places and species that need to be haunted or you will have it fucking everywhere. In some parts in Argentina we have to hunt some wild pigs because if we do not, those wild pigs would be everywhere. (And they are dangerous and really agressive) So we have to control their population.
