This is a guide on how to keep your Sulcata Tortoise this is just scratching the surface and you should definitely watch more videos on how to keep them but this is how I keep them and mine have been healthy and active for 15 years!!

Quick question when I put the substrate in the clean the cage out on a daily basis what do you recommend to put it in with the tray? Red Hot Chili Peppers man no my Sulcatas don’t dig the ones that dig are the ones that don’t have proper hides or they’re just used to sleeping in their own burrows but if you get them as babies and raise them properly they won’t dig and adults poop a couple times a day depending how much they eat that day

Hi! This video was super helpful! I just adopted a baby sulcata tortoise who is about two months old. I had a huge scare yesterday because I caught him eating a small piece of the substrate in his enclosure. I use the same substrate as the original owner who used a reptile type of woodchip substrate. After he swallowed it, he appeared to move his neck very spasticly as if he was choking. He didnt choke on it and continued to eat his actual food. Should I replace the substrate with another substrate that wouldnt be as easy to choke on? I also noticed that you referred to your baby sulcata as a 'her'. How were you able to know her gender so young? I think my tortoise might be girl too. Thank you!!!

maya gormly you can’t sex baby tortoises I just referred to it as a her because it’s easier that way lol, check out the video on how to sex your Sulcatas it’s on the Sulcata care playlist and if you’d like to change your substrate I recommend organic top soil or Cyprus mulch

Dapper Don it could be but it doesn’t always mean that, my Sulcatas have gotten it sometimes during the winter and then it goes away after a couple weeks
