Rumor Has It is actually not literal so to speak. She'd finished her 19 tour, came back home and met up with friends, and they'd heard rumors she was dating someone whom she'd never heard of and she wrote the song based on the wtf feeling she got when her friends asked her about the guy

@@aguti7920 Ironically Hello is one of my least favorite songs on the album. I still love it but i don't listen to it as much as the others. But the rest of the album is pure brilliance. Remedy, When We Were Young, River Lea, Love in The Dark, Million Years Ago... Just amazing. Can't wait for 30, only 12 days until it's there!

I got into Adele last year and it’s my new favorite thing. It’s crazy how her album 21 almost sounds like a greatest hits album. 21 is a masterpiece and I think it’s a major step up from 19, and 25 really continues to ride the wave of the success. Bro this album is literally my childhood. I don't even know how many times I sang out Rolling in the Deep and Rumour Has It and Set Fire to the Rain at the top of my fricking lungs in the car and in the shower and pretty much anywhere and everywhere else as a little 10 year old lol. My mom was always like "You're only 10, you shouldn't be able to sing with that much soul, what are you doing??" and it was just like "It's Adele how could I sing along without trying to emulate the soul in her voice?" Lol I'd sing Adele songs in the shower and get out and my dad would say he heard me all the way in the basement (our shower's on the top floor). 😂 Also, don't get me started on Someone Like You...two people I looked up to a lot ended up leaving my life around the time the album came out and (with the second one especially) this song was the essence of how I felt. Not the romantic aspects obviously, but the feeling of losing someone you care about but wanting the best for them and feeling like maybe you can try to find someone else like them...ouch...I love thinking about some of my early experiences that led to my fear of abandonment lol 🙃 Someone Like You is one of my favorite songs ever but even now, 10 years later, it kicks me through the heart whenever I listen to it, partially cuz of how gorgeous and heartwrenching it is, and partly cuz of the importance it's had to me on a personal level. This album is iconic and listening to it always makes me feel like I'm a time traveler going back to my childhood. It's wild!

Regarding rumor has it. There is basically no story. After touring for 19 she met with some friends who told her that "rumor has it" she s been dating a new guy she had never even heard of before. This is how she came up with it. She has herself described the song as very "tongue and cheek"
