Excellent review, thank you. I think the comments that have been made in your concert video and in other videos etc about the crowd being "dead" are clearly wrong. As you said, this was clearly a majority Dethklok crowd, the vast majority of them will have not been familiar with BABYMETAL and they were seeing and hearing them for the first time. Obviously that being so they will not know when to jump, pump their fists etc at the right time - and they probably wouldn't anyway since this is their first time hearing the songs, so they won't be hyped like a BABYMETAL "home" crowd. What I have seen here is a crowd watching, listening ... and I think most of them enjoying what they are seeing and hearing. They were cheering and clapping, showing their appreciation at the end of the songs, they were putting their hands up when Su asked - most of them even sitting down during 'Metali' when she asked as well. The crowd was not "dead", they were just unfamiliar and taking the show in. A BABYMETAL "home" crowd would have been more a part of the show, we can't expect people seeing and hearing them for the first time to be anything like that, they are observing and hopefully enjoying what they are seeing and hearing. If they go away and have been prompted by this experience to listen to and watch more BABYMETAL, maybe they will go to see them again and next time they will be jumping and waving their towels.🤘🦊 All that said, excellent review thanks (I think I already said that, no matter, it is true) and I am so glad you had a great time. I have seen many of the recognised great live bands in their prime in my time (eg Led Zeppelin, Queen with Freddy Mercury, Iron Maiden and so many more) and BABYMETAL are right up among them when it comes to putting on a great show and doing what they do so well and for me Su-metal has the same sort of presence as Robert Plant and Freddy Mercury and even more than pretty much every other front man or woman I've seen - she commands your attention somehow. My favourite concert of the countless concerts I'd been to, the one where I had most fun, before seeing BABYMETAL was Anthrax supported by Metal Church (I was well into Metal Church at the time and Anthrax were hilarious and very entertaining) - it took a long time before I went to a concert that was more fun and that I enjoyed even more - BABYMETAL did that. Seeing them in Japan ... that would be a dream!🤘🦊🤘

It's interesting because I've talked to people who were at a few of the NA shows, and some of them have said that the crowd was very much a Babymetal crowd, and others have said that the show they went to was more of a Dethklok crowd. It seems to vary from city to city as to which band more of the crowd were there to see. I went to all three shows in Australia and each of them had a different energy. Brisbane was super hyped and seemed to have the most kitsune present, while Melbourne had less energy and the crowd seemed more casual. The comment about seeing Babymetal live is like seeing lions in the wild was Professor AJ Hartley in his review of the Atlanta show.

I've been watching your Babymetal journey form the beginning and this is a great way to cap it off. My first show was a couple of days before yours in Cleveland. There are a few videos I've seen, and they don't really capture the feeling of the show. I think people compare the Fancams to the BLU-RAYS were the audience noise is mic'ed and mixed. As good as phones are they can't pick up everything. After waiting years to see them it was surreal when they came out on stage. I was on the floor (stage right) four people back and when Momometal can over the first time I got a little choked up. Seeing Moa's dimples in person will melt the coldest heart. The show was non-stop energy. I'm 51 and didn't even know I could still jump, but spent the show jumping and headbanging. Su's vocals, Momometal, Moametal's crowd interactions, the Kamiband's sound, it was all amazing. As a bonus Kobametal walked by me before the show. It is the second best concert that I've ever seen, the first being Metallica in 1988 ...And Justice tour. Even though I ended up getting Covid at the show, it was totally worth it!! I'm glad you an amazing time, and I look forward to you diving into Sakura Gakuin.

Awesome! I was right next to the sound booth. I have a short short video of kobametal talking to another crew member as the stage was being swapped. Really cool. I tried not to make it too obvious. LOL

Again, very happy for you. And this is a win for us (at least for me). 😊 100% agree about that comment about the unreal feeling when they go on stage for "BABYMETAL Death" specially with Momometal. No matter how many Blu-rays and other footage you have watched... and believe me, I've watched a lot. 😁 About the crowd response, I experienced something similar on my first BABYMETAL concert (not headlining) last May in Germany. My next one will be on December and it has to be a 100% BABYMETAL crowd (all standing) since it sold out in 6 days and before they announced the opening act. And yes, my dream is to go to Japan and attend to one of their shows there. Which I will try to do next January or February (still unannounced). 🤘🦊

The "seeing lions in Africa/safari for the first time" point was made by Prof. Hartley in his analysis of the Atlanta show, which was his first Babymetal concert. Just for reference... I'm still in awe that the BM ladies have maintained their personal lives private despite their massive fandom.

Hey man, great review of the show. I spent most of my time in the pit and I have to say the pit was WAYYY more energized for Babymetal as opposed to Dethklok. I can say for certain from my perspective that the crowd was 100% not dead. Not sure how the other reviewers are gathering that, but either way it was an awesome experience!

Dear GrassMoon. Congrats on your first BM Live experience. Seeing the three BM's in person in any form is an unreal experience. The girls have always said that the answer to everything is right here on stage. To be able to share a moment of truth with BM, even if it was only for a short time in your life, is something you will treasure for the rest of your life. Thank you!

Great review of the concert. My wife and I went to the Nashville concert. Baby Metal was absolutely amazing. It was our first time too. Baby Metal was the closing act for us. The Nashville crowd was great. They even did a circle pit during Road of Resistance. We got Believing instead of Mirror Mirror. My favorite moment was of course Monochrome and Road of Resistance. Moa actually waved at me during Road of Resistance. Total Fan Boy moment. We sat all the way to the right of the stage on the first row. We could see the girls when they went behind the screen to get a drink. They were being so silly back there. They were having so much fun. We absolutely loved seeing that. These girls are truly amazing. Can’t wait to see them again.

I thought there was a song in there I didn't recognize. I didn't know they actually changed the set slightly. I don't believe the St. Louis show had either Believing or Mirror Mirror, but I don't know which song was the replacement. I suppose it was probably Maya, if that slot is just a rotating song off of their new album.

great review! i'm going to see the final show of the north american tour on oct. 12 at the (appropriately enough) you tube theater in inglewood/los angeles. it only holds 6K and my seat is on the rail right above the floor. i'm looking forward to seeing dethklok as well (always watched metalocalypse),but i do hope they go on first in hopes that since it's the end of the tour babymetal might add a song or two after the regular set they've been playing so far. if sumetal sings rondo of nightmare or akatsuki i will probably weep! also keeping my fingers crossed that tom morello will show up to play metali since he lives in los angeles. usually end of tour shows (even though the world tour continues) are a little more special, and L.A. is full of celebrities,so who knows what may happen. the first of the two shows was on a night i couldn't go,and eventually sold out,so i'm so glad they added the second show. the fox god smiled upon me and said, "you may see your goddess live". as for jason richardson, seeing a guy shred for 30 or 40 minutes to a backing track could get old quick. i might check out the merch during some of his set. looking forward to more fan videos as the tour progresses, and sharing mine when all is said and done.

I have enjoyed every single one of your BM reaction videos, glad to see you have finally made it to experience them live! Very insightful thoughts at the end, I have said the same a couple weeks ago. Everybody enjoys the show differently, in their own ways, and there is no reason to be judgmental against people who do it differently than you - especially against people who are not BM fans. This goes out to those whining about "dead crowds". Anyway, in a few days you will find yourself looking up tour dates again, again, and again for the rest of your life. That's how it works.

I would definitely say from my viewpoint at this show ( Section 107 ) the crowd was definitely not dead. People were headbanging and moving in their seats for sure. I would also like to say that I somehow convinced my 66 year old father to go after showing him a number of live performances from over the years. He gave them a 10/10 and said they were the 3rd best performance he has ever seen, only being bested by Elton John and Styx/REO. I feel that is great company to be in. Me personally, I rate every show up against a particular band performance I saw in 2007. I've waited 16 years, and I can honestly say that BABYMETAL has tied with my #1 spot. They were beyond anything I could have expected. I will end this with a few of my personal observations. I've been somewhat give or take with "BMC", even the pro-shot performances. I always felt like it was a give or take thing. I've heard it goes off live, but I just couldn't see it... until I saw it in person. It goes off hard live, and I now can say it should be in every show in my opinion. Next, I've been indifferent with the new outfits. I wasn't really a big fan. In person, WOW are they gorgeous! Pictures and video don't do them any justice at all. Lastly, I've been a fan of Momoko even in her SG days. She deserves that spot hands down 1000%. She is just as infectious to watch in person as Suzuka and Moa are. She is a real treat. I'm glad you had a great experience as well!

Great review! I will be seeing them in Salt Lake City in a couple of weeks. I like your perspective of the crowd. I saw Band-Maid last month, and it was an all Band-Maid crowd because the opening act was only an up and coming rock group. However I was surprised to see that it was a majority middle-aged crowd. You could tell that they really enjoyed rock back in the day, and it was honestly cool to see them out like that. So the crowd was very tame in terms of jumping and overall movement, but far from "dead". It was an extremely enjoyable show. The younger audience members were shouting cringy things in Japanese which was, well, cringe. I personally think it was a bold choice to have Babymetal and Dethklok perform together. I'm not complaining cuz I used to watch Metalocalypse back when it was on. But I have seen a mix of comments online. Mostly Dethklok fans hating on BM fans. Of course there's gonna be beef in any fanbase. But it saddens me to see so many "Babymetal isn't real metal" comments again. But eh that's the internet. Overall I think it's an interesting choice to mix the 2 bands together, and I'm hyped. I can't wait to experience that surreal feeling when they walk on stage. I've been watching fancams of Babymetal Death and it gives me goosebumps every time. I felt the same way with Band-Maid. I had watched a ton of live videos, but there are no words to describe that feeling when they walk on stage and start that first song. I'm going to try and strike a balance between recording and watching lol. I found myself mostly watching at the Band-Maid concert even though I intended to record more, and I'm kicking myself over it now.

Awesome man, I saw another review at Pittsburgh and it makes totally sense, not to mention in smaller space people that aren't moving or hyped so much it's even more notorious than going to big concerts when even the smallest group having the time of their life's are eclipsing the whole crowd if they're not so get into too much. I'm glad to see you and everyone else were enjoying this nonetheless and hope you will experience this again when they come back next time. Kitsune up!🦊🤘❤️

The more I think about the order of the bands, the more I think it may be marketing genius. Of course this is a co-headline tour and each band should get to be the closer. In my first show, so far, Babymetal was the closing act. I was sitting next to a very nice and big Deathklok fan. I really didn’t know them aside from a few minutes on television. They weren’t really my thing, but still very good and I don’t want to disparage them, or their fans. After Deathklok finished at my concert, many people left the floor. I was happy to see that most just went to the bar, or restrooms and came back after the break. Of course some simply left. The person next to me commented, “at the price of the tickets, they were staying for both bands!” Well said. By having Babymetal second of the three, it sort of forced the Deathklok fans to be exposed to Babymetal, if they would have been inclined to leave. This is just a thought that crossed my mind. I’m still hoping for Babymetal to come back to the US after Europe for a few solo performances. Regardless, I started this year at Makuhari Messe and will probably be back in Japan if I can’t score a ticket for the final concert. Cheers.

I've got 13 more days to wait before I can see them. I cannot wait. Watching the concert footage, especially the part where Su tells everyone to clap their hands I thought, even if you don't know anything about Babymetal I think you know how to clap your hands. I mean its just a curtesy thing. On the other hand, if no one else around is doing something it's hard to be that one guy to be different. So I can still understand the unwillingness to participate.

I'm 60 . A huge BM fan . I sat in section 105 , stage right as looking at the stage . About 3/4 of the way up . My opinion is that these two bands should not be touring together . Two totally different fan base . Maybe another Japanese band like Lovebites , etc.. They would blow BM off of the stage though they are that good . I think the Arena has great acoustics which make the fans seem louder that they actually were . My one question is . If it was just BM playing , how many people would they attract in Pittsburgh ? They would be playing at a way smaller venue here . I don't think they would have sold 4,000 tickets . I hope i'm wrong . My first experience was , holy fuck !! I got to see BM after watching hours and hours of videos , video reactions by YTers . Su was on point as always . BUT , did Momo really do the scream ? Speaking of Babymetal Death 11:40, although the walking on stage part is epic and nostalgic of its own, nothing beats the original. A white curtain with a bright light behind it and the silhouettes of the girls on it, then dropping the curtain when jam thrashes in the song. 12:12 YES! and after 25 shows it STILL gives that feeling of absolute joy every time i see them. As you're discussing this, you mention the fact that there are split fandoms in the audience. Those there for BM and those there for Dethklok. I have to say, from personal experience, that having a 100% attendance for BM is a whole different vibe. BM solo shows i mean. Totally different vibe. This mixed fandom really didn't feel like a TRUE Babymetal show. It felt more like a metal festival. And i get it. I get what Babymetal is doing. They're spreading the BM gospel and trying to win new fans. And I'm cool with that. I'm just saying, it's a totally different vibe. And as for the older crowd, they've always been there😂. Since the beginning. Since their SG days! I don't understand the phenomenon, but yeah, the diverse age of the fans from kids so the way to grandparents has always been there. I mean, Babymetal had a Silver Fox Festival in Japan, for only those over the age of 60 and under the age of 12 specifically. So yeah....there's that. In Dallas, my friend Brendan (58yo) started the WoD during ROR while waving a small Sakura Gakuin flag😂! As for the reaction to the older songs and to Metali, Pittsburgh was the complete opposite of Houston and Dallas. I mean the older songs still hit hard, but Metali was fire, especially in Dallas. Perhaps it's like you said, most were there for Dethklok and so didn't know Metali perhaps but must know their older stuff. 18:00 Yeah, looks like only those in the front rows are participating. Everyone else is just ....watching. And i didn't see a single towel or t-shirt or ANYTHING waving during Papaya!! THAT was disappointing🫤 OH WAIT! THERE'S ONE! Waaaay over to the right😂😂😂 But as the concert progressed, the crowd seemed to liven up quite a bit. I think it just took a few songs for the vibe to really hit. It's when i started to see little mosh pits in the audience 😉. And at least a proper one during ROR. By the end the audience was really into it. The power of Babymetal to win hearts over🥹🥰 It's like Sonisphere all over again😭😭😭. Gotta love how Moa made an effort to wave to the front row. (THAT'S why we buy VIP and start lining up from break of dawn🥰). And of course you'll do it again! It becomes an addiction. Be very very careful. It's like a drug! You'll soon be centering your vacations around Babymetal concerts, saving your money through the year, making plans with other fans to share hotel rooms and carpool to save money as you buy multiple VIPs for multiple cities as you follow the band on tour. Maybe not the WHOLE tour, but definitely multiple shows, and of course the tour ending show that always happens so you must save for THAT trip and plan some vacation days for that. Eventually you'll get that unbearable itch to go to Japan to see them live in Japan. And THAT WILL happen, if you're not careful with this powerful drug called Babymetal.

Thanks for this review ! My guess is Jason Richardson music is maybe more progressive than a lot of Babymetal/Dethklok fans are used to. I wonder how many kids came for Babymetal and got to see Dethklok which is less kids friendly, because... that seems to be a bit of a discussion point online as well. 11:11 I think the comparison to seeing wild animals in Africa came from AJ Hartley's video, he's a Babymetal fan that talks a lot about lyrics/meaning of Babymetal songs. 12:10 interesting isn't it ? Babymetal were the kids, but Babymetal has grown up, the audience stays 'behind' as kids. ;-) 13:42 I think the comparison to the Atlanta show where their were a lot of Babymetal fans (gives an amazing live atmosphere) is the only problem here. Sounds to me like Babymetal made a lot of new fans, which is great too. And as you mentioned, maybe demographics played a role. 14:55 great to hear their were lots of cosplayers 22:39 interesting how that got such a loud crowd response ? Or maybe just can hear them better because it's a quieter part. 27:19 Moametal jumping like crazy :-) 32:41 I can't shake the feeling especially Moametal does this long Babymetal... as if Momometal knows she can't keep up ? 33:00 their were definitely a good number of Babymetal fans if they respond this way. 34:46 that's very much what Kobametal and Su-metal talk about in interviews as well, Su-metal says it's one of the most fun things see how crowd react. As I understand it Babymetal has dinner or at least food after their shows and they then discuss each show how it went and how to improve it. That's a review I would like to hear some day. :-) 35:40 I've seen a full Pink Floyd show live (without Roger Waters), Babymetal is the only band which tops that. :-) I had Rammstein on my list to still see, but now not sure if that will happen. Glad you got to experience it, it definitely feels like full full circle or a culmination or something like that.

All awesome points, thank you! Your line about kids getting to see Dethklok has me thinking of something I forgot to mention! One of the coolest things I saw, sitting right by the stairs to the floor, was what I can only imagine was an about 2 year old girl, wandering down the steps, past security on to the floor...and then her father chasing after her. Once he caught up with her, he talked to the security and although I don't know what was said, the response was awesome. He put the little girl on to his shoulders and went toward the front. I could see them disappear into the crowd of people on the floor and could only think to myself, "wow...baby's first mosh pit" lol

I got a little less than a month until I see them...twice. I hope the girls aren't exhausted by the time they get here. They work their asses off and pour all their heart, soul, and effort into each of their performances. I guess they got one unexpected night off with some of the Blue Ridge festival cancelled. 🤘🦊🤘 The crowd seemed very lowd despite what we can see in some of the fan cams. I did like how it wasn't a sea of cell phones blocking everyone's view. Unlike most the other shows were. @25:32 Moa once again making something even more adorable per usual. We have the Moa shuffle in CMIYC, the Moa Tantrum Stomp in Onedari Daisakusen (newer Moa solo version) and now the Moa Penguin dance. I got very good front row and 2nd row seats for the shows I am going to. I'm introverted so I doubt I will be jumping up too much. But I will be showing the Fox sign and shouting the crowd parts. Might even do the Metali dance a bit. Maybe if I had friends who loved BABYMETAL as much as I do I would get a little more carefree and wild but I am taking two friend who either know zero about BABYMETAL or just a little through me. I assume I will be in awe most of the time and just trying to soak it all in. 🤘🦊🤘

Big fan of BABYMETAL. Missed our chance to see them a few years back and promised myself that wouldn't happen again. The girls were amazing and spot on. We took our 12 year old to this. She is a big Babymetal fan and a die hard nu-metal head. Had her favorite SOAD shirt on for the show. We were on the right hand of the stands towards the middle. Beautiful view of the stage and easy access to the isle. If you saw a long haired dude in a Static-X shirt you saw me! We were headbangers the entire time Dethklok was also amazing, even for a casual fan. I was excited to hear Thunderhorse and Pull the Plug (i know that isn't the name but that is how casual of a fan i am). First act kicked ass but we were in the merch line for most of it A thanks to the staff of UPMC & RMU. Felt comfortable and safe the entire time. People directed parking correctly, police on scene and in parking lot, high end scanning. Bar line moved at a good speed! 10/10 experience

I also love Babymetal and have been wanting to see them live for a very long time so this was about a dream show for me. I found Babymetal to be one of the most exciting and high energy shows I have ever seen and I loved it so much!

There is a slight difference when Babymetal performs in Europe and Asia. every concert in Asia they are much better than concerts in Europe. and that is often done by babymetal. I myself have seen it live in Indonesia, unfortunately they don't show headbangers here.

What you see from them in Babymetal is just a very VERY small taste of their true charm. Enjoy the ride.

Ok. One quick statement before I continue watching your video (:40 in😂) I DO NOT wish that Babymetal close the show, and I'll tell you why. I saw this shows in Houston and in Dallas and I absolutely HATED the fact that I had to sit through both Jason Borechardson AND Boreklok TWICE just to see my BABYMETAL. Honestly, after one dose of Dethklok I'd had enough. Ok rant over , on to the rest of the video.

LOL. I definitely see your point there and can agree for the most part! However, the reason I wish BabyMetal closed (which I didn't explain in the video for some dumb reason lol) is because I would like to have seen what the crowd was like AFTER being pumped up by Dethklok. To me, that would be an interesting experiment: same exact crowd, but swap those 2 bands order and see if all the negative "pittsburgh sucks" BabyMetal comments still pop up. That will only happen in an alternate Metalvese though. lol Thanks for the comment!

I've learned from this tour that the reason why Su-metal sounds pretty bad, really pitchy, or low in the mix in most of the fan cams I've seen is because those fan cams are being recorded too close to the speakers/stage or because the phone/camera didn't have a good mic. Su-metal sounds great in Glass Moon Gaming's videos because he is further away and has a good recording device. I saw other recording from this same show from people closer to the stage and Su-metal sounded really pitchy and off. Normandy Gaming was at this same concert and Su-metal sounded great in his videos because he too was seated further away from the stage and speakers.

Aye! I happened to be right by the sound booth too! There's a reason I picked that area when choosing my seat! I still am amazed at how well it DID come out and that I didn't have to do much audio tweaking at all, other than take away some of the rumble and peak clipping.

Based on what I am seeing, I was 4 or 5 sections to your left. I can just see the girl in Babymetal cosplay front and center. I was talking with her Father before the show while we waited for our VIP passes. She hated the Lantern Flies that were swarming the entrance. In my section it seemed to be a 50/50 split, while a very large part of the early birds were solidly in the Babymetal category. The crowd was much older than I expected. Like you mentioned, even the Dethklok fans in my section were having a blast with Babymetal...I saw a lot of smiles and headbanging. I am not a fan of the masks that the Kami Band have been wearing. I prefer the old look. The only real glitches I noted was Moa and MoMo's vocals were down quite a bit. The FX was also on the heavy side. Sui was amazing. The only way I could give any validity to the 'dead crowd' comments was the hesitation from the floor when Sui was talking to them. This was glaring during 'Metali' and 'Road of Resistance'.

I went to the St. Louis show for both Babymetal and Dethklok. I will say that, going in, I already knew the Babymetal setlist from watching previous shows. I was very disappointed in the selection of songs; if you gave me their entire discography and asked me to create the worst possible setlist, it would only be a couple of songs different from the one they played. I wish they'd play more off of Metal Resistance, as that's far and away their best album in my opinion, but they almost entirely avoided that album. That being said, I was really expecting to dislike hearing my least favorite Babymetal song, BxMxC, but it ended up shockingly heavy live. I couldn't help but enjoy it. Most of the songs were more enjoyable live than in studio, and their set ended up being incredible. I still think Metali is a pretty unenjoyable song, but everything else ended up very enjoyable, and the two or three songs I actually liked were obviously amazing beyond words. I agree that seeing them live doesn't feel real. Dethklok was great. They were, however, way too loud. Maybe I'm just getting old, but that was the first time in dozens of shows I've attended that I wished I had ear protection. My ears are still ringing two days later, although I finally no longer feel like I have water in my ears. Due to the sheer volume of their show, I'm glad that Babymetal went on first so I could actually hear them.

I wasn’t there, but I think the combination of bands wasn’t very well thought out. BABYMETAL and Dethklok aren‘t a great fit to begin with regarding the whole aura and attitude, and I would assume the Jason Richardson‘s guitar masturbation (which I don‘t mean with any disrespect as a guitarist myself) isn‘t to the average BM fan‘s liking either, especially considering the static stage presentation. On the new songs, Su‘s vocals seemed a bit more unstable than usual. I guess she needs to get a bit more comfortable with those. I wasn't familiar with Dethklok, but after hearing they are touring with BM, I started to watch Metalocalypse. But I stopped after the third episode, the music and the whole premise is getting stale very quickly.
