What I love about the relationship between Sheridan and Delenn is how natural a romance it is. It starts out with small moments like this and then it gradually grows more intimate. That's something a lot of TV shows and movies get wrong when it comes to romantic relationships.

Don't many romantic relationships start hot and heavy? Two people meet, like what they see, have sex, and then later figure out they can get along in the sort of long term.
@BlueHooloovoo Жыл бұрын
@@aluisious Unfortunately, most romances for TV are rushed through or tacked on. It's usually treated as an afterthought and isn't a significant factor in the overall plot. It took till the end of Season 3 for Sheridan to confess his love for Delenn and their relationship got serious in Season 4. It was an essentially and defining part in the development of the two characters.

I always loved Delenn, even before her transformation. Her spirituality, her wisdom, her unique point of view, her inner strength, and her voice all make me love her. Ryszard Nanke Delenn was a recent (anc comparatively inexperienced) addition to the Grey Council, and yes, hers was the deciding vole for war, BUT (and this is important!) not the sole vote. Recall that at that moment, she was grief-stricken over the death of Dukhat, her mentor and friend. And the PROMETHEUS did initiate hostilities by firing on the Mimbari ships. Jankowski COULD have followed his orders to merely observe, but instead he ordered his ships into close proximity. He furthermore was obviously neither authorized nor qualified to initiate first contact. He panicked and shot first. Once the war began, Delenn sought a way to end the war, but found that the Mimbari were not easily dissuaded once blood had been spilled.

@@xaenon It's also implied trough the series that Delenn lost considerable influence because of her efforts for peace(especially warrior caste views her as disenginous) and her continued insistince to remain among humans(She was actually offered to become successor of Dukhat by council majority which she declined in favor of staying in Babylon 5). When she's finally ousted from Grey Council, Neroon(her warrior caste rival who she had conflict in the past) makes clear that he considers Delenn as a race traitor.

It's hard sometimes to be all if you have a lot of people who need a lot from you (more than one person can provide). I've been that guy for most of my life. I will only say that you must look to you own wellbeing and limits so that you are enabled to be helpful over the longer term. Not doing that will see you burnt out and not able to help others. There's a balance of what you can manage and be sustainable. Life, however, often throws more than what you can manage at you and (contrary to hollywood stories), sometimes it just is too much for too long. I'm not for being selfish or uncaring, just for recognizing that to help others, one must be balanced, healthy, not always exhausted and emotionally burnt down.

Delenn and Sheridan's dad were considerate and caring. Her father would have stood out there in the yard for a long time to help his son. Delenn would prevent Sheridan from smashing his head out if he rolled out of the slant bed. That's the job of a parent or a partner - to help when you are needed and to try to not help so much as you instead end up in trouble. THAT balance is the hardest thing in an environment when there are many real, hard events generating needs from those you care for but you are only one person. If you think of yourself first, you, you feel guilt. If you don't, you easily burn out and can't do any more. The band where you can help most of the time but still be careful with your own health can be a narrow one.

@@echofourmike85 That last part is what parenting is; It is not the job of the parent to be your child's friend if that gets in the way of being their parent. The job of the parent is to prepare the child such that they can face the future on their own if need be and not to deprive the child of the minor bumps and scrapes that they need to encounter to develop that self-reliance. When we protect them overmuch and keep them from any of the rough parts of the world, when they move out into that world, they will be at a great disadvantage because they have not learned the skills and mindsets to cope without much fuss.
