Aah, it makes me so happy to see BABYMETAL making people smile. They have many qualities, but this is still the most important. They manage to do that like no other band, in my opinion. For a metalhead, it’s quite surprising how much choreographed dancing adds to the entertainment value, isn’t it? I don’t think that there’s any other band that offers that complete a package of fun.

@@TheWolfHunterZ There are some performances that are better than others. The fans know the better ones, this is the best version of this song. This song is tricky because the dancers will sing it for their birthdays, everyone just dies when she hands the mic off to the birthday girl.

There can be exceptions to the smiling rule. _Akatsuki (Unfinished)_ doesn't really make me smile, but it's not supposed to. It does strike the appropriate emotions, though. :)

BABYMETAL 101 Babymetal is a Japanese group founded in 2010 and produced by Key “Koba” Kobayashi from the Amuse Inc. talent agency. Babymetal name comes from the birth of a new style of metal fusing j-pop with metal creating what they call Kawaii Metal (Cute-Metal). The group currently consists of Suzuka Nakamoto aka “Su-Metal” (23 years old) sometimes referred to as Vocal and Dance, and Moa Kikuchi aka "Moametal", pronounced as Moa-Metal (21 years old) sometimes referred to as Scream and Dance. With a rotating trio of girls filling the third slot, in a 3-member formation. These girls are known as Avengers and are Kano Fujihara (16 years old) ((Most likely not an Avenger)), Riho Sayashi (21 years old) ((Most likely is not an avenger anymore)), and Momoko Okazaki (18 years old) ((Still an Avenger)). They are supported by a rotating selection of talented male backing musicians known as the Kami Band (Kami is usually poorly translated as gods, but in truth it more closely means awe inspiring spirit, entity, or object) It is why they are dressed in white to look like ghosts or spirits, though Kami being used as God(s) is so common in translation the white outfits get lost. Past Formations. Heavy Music Club Era (2010-2012) From 2010 to 2012 Babymetal consist of a three-member formation, Suzuka Nakamoto (Age 12), Moa Kikuchi (Age 10), and Yui Mizuno aka "Yuimetal" pronounced Yui-Metal. (Age 10). First starting out as the Heavy Music Club as a subunit within the Developmental Idol Group created by Amuse in 2010 known as Sakura Gakuin. Sakura Gakuin is group that introduces girls between the ages of 10-15 to music, dance, modeling, and acting through Japanese Pop idol music and culture. Given a school theme, all three would be a part of Sakura Gakuin until their graduation from it in the same school year they would graduate from Japanese middle school or 15 years old. Suzuka graduated in March 2013, and Moa and Yui in March of 2015. Sakura Gakuin is a fantastic group with great kawaii jpop songs in their own right. During this time there was no lore, and the girl’s costumes were more punkish in nature which they helped create. They also didn’t perform with live music, using a backing track or the “Skeleton band” people pretending to play music behind them. Music Video of this Era Doki Doki Morning Iine (Pronounced EE-NAH spelled i i n e) Headbangya Babymetal/ Metal Resistance Era (2012-2017) Starting in 2012 with the Legend I concert, Babymetal began its slow divorce from Sakura Gakuin, and was the first introduction of the Kami Band as well as the “Lore” that is still heavily involved in Babymetal but makes far less sense than it did during this time. The Lore is complex and involves a battle against other evil idol corporations, gaining powers, some time travel, running a resistance group, all at the direction of a mythical deity known as the fox god, against an all power enemy known as Akiba. The first Legend show I was the Kami Bands introduction to the end, but it also had the Skeleton Band which is seen in the wildly popular Gimmie Chocolate Music Video. This was followed by Legend D, and then Legend Z, in which it was learned that Babymetal would continue as its own entity after Suzuka’s graduation from Sakura Gakuin in March of 2013. Slowly over 2013 the Skeleton Band would be phased out of all live shows, as Babymetal came into their own. Babymetal as it is most commonly known as with Su-Metal, Moametal, Yuimetal, the Kami Band, and a somewhat understandable lore is what consisted for the majority of it’s existence. Also established beyond the 3 member formation, they had 2 other set ups, one was what fans called Su-Solos, and it would just be Su on stage with the Kami band, performing a solo, and the other is known as Black Babymetal by the band themselves, which consisted of just Moa and Yui. Music Videos of this Era Gimmie Chocolate Megitsune Rondo of Nightmare - With mischief of the Gods Intro (Su Solo and a great expedition of the Kami Band) Road of Resistance Live in Japan (Co-written by Dragonforce) Iijime, Dame, Zettai Live at Sonisphere (Name means No More Bullying Forever) Karate The Dark Times, The Chosen 7 Era (2018) In December 2017, Yui would miss the Legend-S concert for health reasons, these health problems would prosiest into 2018 and greatly affect the 2018 touring season bring the “Chosen 7” formation, consisting of Suzuka Nakamoto, Moa Kikuchi, and 2 backing dancers Minako Maruyama, and Minami Tsukui. Changes they would not tell fans and all throughout 2018 communicate extraordinarily little causing lots of pain for all involved fan and performer. This era is noted by their strange armor like costumes, sometimes referred to as Elf Armor. To make the poor communication, and Yui’s absence wasn’t bad enough, one of the more regular Kami band members, Mikio Fujioka passed away after falling off a balcony in late December 2017 while star gazing. A beloved and incredibly talented musician lost leaving behind his wife and only child. In September 2018 Yui would formally resign from Babymetal, stating her unspecified health and wishing to move on. Babymetal themselves announced that the group will move on focusing on Suzuka and Moa. (Something many idiots within the fandom refuse or are too stupid to understand) In October Babymetal had a concert called Dark Night Carnival which added dancers, Shoko Akiyama, Saya Hirai, and Kotono, placing a total of seven girls on stage. This was also done without warning to fans and was an absolute mess. Babymetal would finish off the 2018 tour season returning to the 3-member formation with just Saya Hirai joining them in southeast Asia and Australia. Ending one of the most troubling times in Babymetal’s history. Music Videos of this Era (These MVs do not feature the members in them at all) Distortion Starlight (Don’t let overzealous fans fool you, this is OFFICIALLY not a tribute to anyone. A lot of fan speculation, end of story) Metal Galaxy Era (2019- Feb 2020) The current set up was first introduced in 2019 during the Babymetal Arises concert in Yokohama, before the start, the “Avenger” support dancer concept was explained in the lore, and the concept thanks to communication and a maintaining of the 3-member formation brought Babymetal out of dark times brought about during 2018. Babymetal seemed to have returned to its roots with the Avengers, as 2 of the three (Kano and Momoko) come from Sakura Gakuin. The third Riho, went to the same performing arts school as Suzuka during the same time, Actors School Hiroshima aka ASH. Music Videos of this Era Pa Pa Ya Elevator Girl Shanti Shanti Da Da Dance (Avenger confusion) Which Avenger one sees can be confusing for those new to Babymetal. For the Music Videos, Pa Pa Ya, Elevator Girl, and Shanti Shanti Shanti, it is Kano Fujihara, who was just 14 years old at the time. Da Da Dance is a compilation of Momoko and Riho and a splicing of 2 different shows. In most fan cam videos of the American and European tour it would be either Riho or Momoko, as they toured with Babymetal in 2019. Kano had responsibilities with Sakura Gakuin as its president, a position Suzuka and Moa both held in Sakura Gakuin, and she’s never flown on a plane before. Some fans for 2019 did throw a stupid temper tantrum over the use of new Kami Band members who are from the west now known as the West Coast Kami Band, but like how the girls won over many, so did they and the payoff with the Legend Metal Galaxy concert in 2020 was well worth it. COVID Era (Mar 2020 to current time) COIVD-19 has messed up a lot of things for everyone, Babymetal had to cancel their Asian tour, as well their big 10th Anniversary on October 10, 2020. Forced to keep it rather tame something very unlike Babymetal as even in their failures like the entire 2018 tour they do it septically. The question for many fans is what of the Avengers, since COVID, Avenger Riho Sayashi has signed with a new agency and has move on to other projects, including starting a fan club, which appears to rule her out of ever being an Avenger again. Kano Fujihara has graduated from Sakura Gakuin on August 30, 2020, a near 4 month delay. However, she and fellow Sakura Gakuin graduates Soyoka Yoshida, Tsugumi Aritomo, and Momoe Mori in the formation of @onefive. Which leaves Momoko Okazaki as last standing Avenger with no new commitments. However, Kano was technically in Sakura Gakuin, @onefive, and Babymetal all at the same time for almost a year so it is possible she will still be an Avenger. All shows since COVID pandemic they have done in 2020 and in 2021 have had Momoko as the Avenger. Music Videos of this Era BxMxC (First music video that isn’t footage from a show and featuring Su and Moa since Karate in 2015)

What you watched was extraordinary talent, a high degree of professionalism and Charisma that most can only dream of. Babymetal was created by Key Kobayashi (Kobametal) a producer for the Amuse Agency. He wanted to have a band that combined Jpop and Metal. He recognized Su's (Suzuka Nakamoto) ability as a singer that she could front a metal band and not be overwhelmed. He first saw her when she about 8/9 yo. Yui and Moa were chosen for their talent and the fact that they looked alike. Yui and Moa describe what they do as "Scream and Dance". Babymetal would not work without a 3. They pretty much go at this pace for an entire concert that are about 80 minutes long.

@@TheWolfHunterZ - You see the Kami Band in live shows. They aren't in music videos is all. They do their own intros to songs sometimes when the girls aren't even on stage. They're only hired to play concerts they don't do anything else. Any live concert video from 2014 or later will have the Kami Band. They first appeared in Dec 2012 and became full time starting in 2014. In between they may or may not be there. This concert was the last big show that they weren't full time. It was Dec 2013, the Kami Band did the 5 song encore only. Before the encore the music was recorded and they had dancers who would sort of dance around with (probably fake) instruments. Some people say pretend to play but their guitars didn't even have chords and weren't plugged in. They weren't trying to fool anybody. It was just for fun. I saw one video where the 'drummer' had floppy rubber drumsticks.

Nice & thanks again from Japan 有難う💛。Can you believe that this is the 12th song after 11 exhausting performance ? (and still 2 more) In this video, you heard the crowd shout some words at 08:25. The words are "ki-e-ro 消えろ!" meaning "get out of here!". This shout comes out wherever they go on this planet and whenever Su-Metal directs her mic towards audiences. Twitter tells you are residing in Ohio, right? As far as I know, BABYMETAL has performed there in 2015 (Rock On The Range), 2016 (with Rob Halford at APMAs ceremony) and 2018 (Rock on The Range). @@TheWolfHunterZ - I think the story of how they came together is very interesting. It's nothing like the garage band. How Babymetal started is that a producer Koba (Key Kobayashi) who was employed by the Children's Division of Amuse was watching the final performance of a group called 'Karen Girls' which performed the music from the Anime 'Zettai Karen Children'. He was struck by the youngest girl in the 3 girl trio Suzuka Nakamoto who was 11 years old and decided that Su should be the lead singer for Babymetal. TLDR below. Koba had been thinking about a combination of Japanese Idol and Metal. He said it was one of the ideas he had at the time. But seeing Suzuka he thought she'd be perfect as the lead singer. She has a ridiculously strong voice i'm sure that she overpowered the other girls at the concert. Combined with her unique stage presence and she's perfect. He added Yui Mizuno and Moa Kikuchi who are super cute, great dancers and look like twins. To 'dance around her like angels'. They started as a subunit of the school themed Idol Group 'Sakura Gakuin' but were immediately more popular and their debut single 'doki doki morning' was a hit. They started doing their own concerts away from the main group and in 2013 were made officially independent. But when i say they were a subunit of Sakura Gakuin they were all also in the larger group which is awesome for Banymetal fans because there is a ton of recorded footage of our 3 girls with Sakura Gakuin. Yui and Moa continued even after Babymetal was officially independent until 2015 when they 'graduated'. There is also alot of video from Su with Karen Girls. They appeared on Japanese television and released a full album and 3 music videos. Su was already somewhat of a pop star before Babymetal. At the first live appearance of Babymetal a fan of hers bought up all the tickets. And it was a Sakura Gakuin event. Babymetal only did one song. Oh yeah, and the girls knew nothing about Metal when they were asked to form Babymetal. They thought it was 'scary'. But they credit starting to enjoy Metal from when they watched their first Metal concert which they were invited by Metallica to watch from backstage. Sorry if this is long but there is a lot of stuff i think it's all very interesting and unique. It's hard to know where to stop.

I'm sure it's been explained, but Legend 1997 was the first live show where we get to see the Kami Band. However, it wasn't until the very end of the show. BABYMETAL performed a full set to a backing track, with the Babybones miming on instruments. Then, they completed their break away from Sakura Gakuin with a 5 song encore, backed by the live music of the Kami Band. The encore was capped with BABYMETAL DEATH, in which they sacrificed SUMETAL in a crucification style ritual.

That's Sakura Nakamoto lead vocals with Yui Mizuno (the cutest one, left the group unfortunately) and Moa Kikuchi ( who now trades leads with SN as adults). They started out in a kids show group called Sakura Gakuin (see "Song For Smiling" video with them in it) in Japan and were recruited to form this "Idol/Jpop/Metal fusion band" around 2010-11 or so. Their first hit was "Doki Doki Morning", which is super cute. You can find videos of them performing in these really early songs and groups too. All these girls were trained formally in singing, dancing, acting, in the same methods as Kpop/Jpop. They have toured all over the world before, including the U.S. with The Red Hot Chili Peppers Tour. As of 2023 touring again in Europe (but not the U.S. for some reason) promoting their new album "The One". Possibly adding a 3rd member to replace Yui Mizuno. Thye actually seem to be phasing out of the Japanese kids-shows themed songs. Despite the metal backing, the content (lyrics) of their songs are not very "dark" or adult subject material. Something parents can let their kids listen to with no problem. Don't count on them to last a lot longer, however, as they have been doing this setup for a relatively long time and they appear to "aging out" of their image as "Babymetal".

⚡ 💀 💕 / 🤘 CrypicMisery has a couple of good videos that help explain BABYMETAL. He's got a 17 minute 'Beginner’s Guide to BABYMETAL', and a 43 1/2 minute 'Everything You Need To Know About BABYMETAL' with more detail. It's great that they've brought 'Headbangeeeeerrrrr!!!!!' back and have been playing it again recently. It was one of their earliest hits, but they didn't play it at all in 2018. Even though it looked like the finale, this was followed by two more songs at that 'Legend 1997' concert. It was part of a five song encore with the live Kami Band. I've been a fan since 2014, and was finally able to see 'Headbangeeeeerrrrr!!!!!' live at the October 11th, 2019 LA Forum concert. Although they regularly sell out arenas in Japan, that was their first arena concert in the USA. Even though this song is about a fifteen year old girl going to her first heavy concert, Su was only fourteen when she first recorded it.

Hanny Montana had ended in the usa. Japan had a version of idiol and this group was put together at a music and acting conservatory. The kawaii band to me will always be BabyMetal too cause a group of singers is not a band. One must play instuments. But they took what Hanny Montana was doing with pop they put cheerleader high energy dance to heavy metal and called it cute metal. Very enjoyable.

For your information Jon : Babymetal is the product of a japanese idol school called Sakura Gakuin. There are a lot of idol schools in Japan training young girls to go into showbizz, and in this school one of the teachers was a metal fan, who got the new idea of mixing the kawaii cuteness of idol pop with the background of brutal heavy metal. All 3 girls started at a very young age. Su-metal has been into showbizz since she was about 3-4 years old and Youimetal and Moametal started at about the same age. Su-metal or Suzuka Nakamoto as is her real name also comes from a family, who is into showbizz. Her dad was in a band called Hooligans and I think her mum was also a performer, but all in all Baby Metal is the pure product of an idol school. The people behind this has made buckets of money, cause Baby Metal has been one of Japans best export items for the last century. An example of this is they are the only japanese based music act ever making it into the USA top 10

Babymetal wasn't created quite the way you say. Actually they were created in a much different way than most bands. They all went to a school that specializes in creating actors/singers out of young girls. Originally Su was singing a jpop song with her sister. The actual creator of Babymetal, Kobametal heard her sing and thought her voice was too powerful for jpop. That her voice would be wasted on jpop. As a metal fan, Koba wanted to create an experiment of combining jpop with metal. So he literally created the entire band AROUND Su and her vocals. He picked Moa and Yui because they were a) very cute (kawaii), and b) looked similar to the point they look related and even look like twins almost. So the entire band centers around Su. Remove her from the band, and you don't have Babymetal anymore. Some say Moa could take Su's role, but I don't think Moa would stick around if Su left. They are too close to each other to want to be separate from one another. Thats my opinion. That is also how the band formed as far as I am aware. If I am incorrect, somebody will say so in the comments.

Babymetal are an Idol group. Generally Idol groups/units consist of a group of girls singing and doing choreographies to a (prerecorded) pop music backing track. The girls that later became Babymetal were part of a much larger Idol group from a very young age. Pop-Idols in Japan often start their carreers from like 11 years old and are trained to do that job over the years. They usually drop out at around 18-20. In t his particular case though, their Producer had the idea of mixing the idol concept with metal, chose the girls for it and this later became babymetal. Their backing tracks used to be prerecorded as well in the beginning but later, the Kami-band, a band of extremely good session musicians, were recruited to play the songs live. All of them are amazing musicians. It also was a pretty smart decision from a marketing standpoint I think since it improved the acceptance-level of Babymetal amongst the metal-crowd by a lot. The idea really took off as you can see and now they are internationally much more well known than the group they originated from. This probably also helped them to be able to continue this even though they are around 20 now which for Idols usually is an age where they either make the leap to popstar or another media career or completely drop out of the business. Babymetal are still going strong though.

They haven't been Idols in the most well known sense of the word for a while since Su graduated from their parent Idol group, Sakura Gakuin. "Idol" is a very generic word and even Bands like Band-Maid qualify according to some meanings, but BABYMETAL evolved and became something else (maybe not a band, but in the end all of this is semantics).
