OK, some background. The song title actually means "No More, Bullying, Forever". It was the ending song at this show, where they managed to turn an epic FAIL into an epic victory. - This was their first tour outside of Japan, and their first UK show - They booked a small stage but, for an unknown reason, they were moved to the main stage at the last minute. Instead of 3-5 thousand of their loyal fans they faced 30-50 thousand (?) trve metalheads. - This was a crowd waiting for Ghost, Deftones, Anthrax, and Iron Maiden. 90% of them knew absolutely nothing about BM. - BM released their debut album just a few months before. All the above mentioned bands had several albums and decades of history behind them. - They were girls between 14-16, all their songs had backing tracks, they sang not in English (the only other metal band that could get away with it recently was Rammstein). The backing band was made up of session musicians. The girls were singing about chocolate, and they were playing hide and seek on the stage, literally. They already had their own made up religion about the Fox God, and their hand sign was mocking the devil's horns. - This was NOT metal at all. They were nobodies and they didn't belong on the main stage of a metal festival. But, they knew it well, and they expected to get booed and bottled. There's a backstage photo of the girls before the show and their faces read "WE ARE F*CKED" And they went on the stage and Yui's hoodie got stuck in her hair, Moa's headset did not work and she missed the opening moves of the choreo. There was a close up of Yui's face on the projector screen at this moment, she saw what was happening, and for a moment her expression was like "ok, forget it, NOW we are f*cked..." - You can see in your video that Yui's skirt also started to fall apart at the last song, IDZ. - So what else happened? The crowd got a taste of the band at the soundcheck and they loved it. Then there was an epic (or ridiculous ?) Star-Wars style video intro showed on the screen. The first song started and 30 seconds later there were moshpits forming. In the next song, Gimme Chocco, there was a call-and-respond where Su effortlessly made the crowd sing the chorus in Japanese. Next came the solos and everybody shat themselves. Then the song titled Catch Me If You Can, then their women-empowering song, and then the ending song you saw. The biggest circle pits and WOD's of the festival. - Everybody was talking about them, and their T-shirts were top sellers even two days later. - If there's an epic entrance to the genre, this is it.

Sedrick now that is some good explanation. That explains the hype in this video!
@Soufriere847 жыл бұрын
Wow. Your explanation of the details of this day just makes the whole spectacle even more insanely awesome. I knew this was their first gig outside Asia and it was a minor miracle they won over the trve metalheads in that crowd, but I had no idea about all the logistical & technical snafus. Couple quibbles: One, "backing track" implies miming. Suzuka does not lipsynch; that's easily proven in videos of live shows where her mic cuts out and you can still (barely) hear her singing. As time has gone on, they've done more and more of the music live. All they lack is a keyboardist. Yui & Moa do lipsynch sometimes because it's all but impossible for them to sing while doing those hyper dance moves. Two, the Kami Band are and were more than just session musicians -- a term I feel has a undeserved bad rap -- all of them are veterans of Japan's underground metal scene.
@markmark-pr4jn7 жыл бұрын
Yes, you can see a lot of this happening on the fan cam compilation of the entire set. The tide started to turn from the middle of gimme chocco and then during Catch me, u can see it on Su's face, "We got em" and it was like flicking on a light switch. The crowd never had a chance from that point forward, when Su decides that she is going to crush, she crushes!
@Stamango6 жыл бұрын
Great read. I became aware of BM in 2016 I think? - right after Karate came out. I was blown away. Now I am always looking for info on them like this. You can see during this song that Su is almost at tears after she realizes they have won this crowd over big. This is a movie waiting to happen.

Geez... first concert outside of Japan and in front of what was it like 50,000 people? The amount of courage and strength to go out there, at that age, and show the world who you are... that is what makes Babymetal special to me. Just look at them now!
@Brain4Zombie Жыл бұрын
They’ve had two little concerts before Sonisphere though. One in Cologne and the other in Paris, but it was the same tour. You can find videos here on KZbin. Those were very small concerts with like a few hundred people in small venues, but they were sold out and the crowd knew everything about the show, like the „kiero“ in Headbanger :) I don’t really think that they were totally and completely unknown to the 50.000 plus people, most of them maybe have already heard about them and now they were just curious.

@@ghomsdominion7983 But a couple things to remember is that back in 2014 their English was not as good as it is nowadays 7 years later, most of their interviews had a translator off to the side translating what was being asked and they would respond back in Japanese. There is a very good chance that they literally did not understand the audience request. Also their concerts are far more rigidly scripted than other western bands, and I don't mean that in a bad way it's just cultural differences. They can't just decide on the fly to perform another song, they would have been told ahead of time how many songs to perform and then that's it.

@spinningtop57496 жыл бұрын
I'm only a few years younger than you, also metal head; but exactly the same reaction. I believe that haters on these young girls are simply afraid of change, there is nothing wrong with change, it's also called... progress, development, evolution.... and there is nothing wrong with that and nothing to be scared of. If it challenges your comfort zone and what you already love, don't discard it. Metal is all about challenge, standing up for yourself and not giving 2 shits what anyone else thinks about the music you like, the clothes you wear or the length of your hair. These girls embody that. And for anyone saying, 'oh, they're just a manufactured band who never heard metal till they were introduced to it'', you might be right, but wtf were you doing at 12 years old apart from scratching your pimply arse.
This might be the coolest, most uplifting thing to ever happen in metal history.
