"I like it but I'm confused" is a pretty standard first reaction to Babymetal.

Also Babymetal seems pretty normal once you know more Japanese music. :) They do the same trick over and over. But it still works and then it's funny to watch people be shocked by it.

Good first reaction and welcome to the BABYMETAL Galaxy. You are quite right, you won't have seen or heard anything quite like BABYMETAL, they really are that most rare thing, a unique and original band doing things their own way and copying nobody ... your confusion is not an unusual first reaction either. I will try to answer some of your questions. BABYMETAL formed in 2010 as a sub-unit of a J-Pop Idol group called Sakura Gakuin. SG had a school theme and was for about a dozen girls aged 10 to 15. As part of the school theme there were sub-units like after school clubs (cooking, tennis, science, baton etc) and as well as the main group's songs and dances the sub-units, with three or so of the girls in each one, would get their own themed songs and dances that they would perform at the Sakura Gakuin shows and Idol festivals. One of the producers, Kei Kobayashi, was a life long metalhead, more used to working with bands. He had noticed a girl, Suzuka Nakamoto, a year or two earlier singing with her previous J-pop trio (Karen Girl's) and was struck by her unusually loud, powerful and full on no holds barred singing style and had the thought she would be wasted in pop and could even front a metal band ... she was only 10 or 11 at that time. Suzuka joined Sakura Gakuin as a founder member along with one of her friends from the J-pop trio as that group ended when the anime they sang the songs for ended its run. Kobayashi proposed another sub-unit to be led by Suzuka - the Heavy Music Club - a fusion of metal with the J-pop style vocals and aesthetics. Kobayashi asked Su to lead the sub-unit and the two youngest and smallest girls in Sakura Gakuin - Yui Mizuno and Moa Kikuchi - to be her support. Their roles were defined as vocal and dance (Suzuka) scream and dance (Yui and Moa). At that time, in 2010, Su was 12, Yui and Moa are 18 months younger and were 11. They would perform under the name BABYMETAL the name is not about their age (although they were very young so it probably did play a part too). The name was chosen for two reasons: - to symbolise that they gave birth to a new genre of metal music (kawaii metal) - because the writing (and pronunciation) in Japanese is nearly identical to the writing of "heavy metal" (and they love a pun): BABYMETAL = ベビーメタル (be-bi-me-ta-ru) heavy metal = ヘビーメタル (he-bi-me-ta-ru) Suzuka became Su-metal, Yui and Moa became Yuimetal and Moametal. Yui and Moa provide backing vocals, harmonies and do most of the dancing (yes, they have choreography and in all my decades of listening to rock and metal I never knew it could be improved by adding dancing). They are more than just dancers - their role is key to what makes BABYMETAL unique. Su-metal rules the stage, Yuimetal and Moametal get the audience involved, they lead chants, when they sing the audience sing along to their parts, when they jump or make a particular move so does the audience. Against all expectations BABYMETAL started to grow in popularity and to attract their own fans and audience who nobody had predicted would exist - even more than the other sub-units. It was decided that when Su was due to graduate from Sakura Gakuin after her 15th birthday BABYMETAL should separate from Sakura Gakuin to go with her has her (and Yui's and Moa's) vehicle as they progressed their careers and should become an independent band in their own right. Up until then they had performed with a backing track and in a couple of small shows of their own they had a fake band dressed in skeleton suits and miming the instruments on stage with them - they were called Babybones. As part of the preparation for the split a live band was phased in playing at a couple of festivals and the encores in a couple of shows - they were the Kami Band, some of Japan's very best session musicians. Kami means god or spirit, so they are the gods of guitar, bass and drums summoned - there is a lot of lore in what they do - to support BABYMETAL in all their live shows and they always used to wear the traditional white burial robes and corpse face paint). More recently the robes are black and the face paint has been replaced with masks - the fans for the most part do not like the masks. The separation from Sakura Gakuin was completed at the end of 2013 at a show called Legend 1997, the day after Su's 16th birthday (she was born in 1997). The Kami Band played the last 5 songs in that show and, starting with the shows at the Budokan, early in 2014 (where this video was filmed) became the full time support for all live shows ... they have been with them ever since. As I said, this performance was in March 2014 at the Budokan in Tokyo - a very prestigious venue. BABYMETAL are still the youngest female band to headline there and they sold it out two nights running. Su-metal was just 16, Yuimetal and Moametal were both 14. They are currently aged 24 and 23. Sadly Yui left the band in October 2018 for undisclosed health reasons - her last show was in October 2017. Su and Moa have continued as a duo and through 2019 to 2021 were supported by any one of 3 girls (the Avengers - Kano, Riho and Momoko) dancing in the third spot. They have 3 studio albums to date, about 50 songs and you will be hard pressed trying to find any two songs alike. They have songs in virtually every metal genre, but they will also mix in many other musical styles and genres with the metal, not just pop, they include rap, folk, hip hop, ska, reggae, EDM, Latin, Bollywood and more. I would suggest 'Road of Resistance' live in Japan, 'Headbanger' live at Legend 1997 or 'Ijime, Dame, Zettai' live at Sonisphere 2014 in the UK for your next reaction ... you may need to partially obscure the videos for the first and third of those to avoid them being blocked.

Welcome to the Foxhole 🦊🤘 Interesting first time reaction, it's been a while since someone reacted to this song for first time watching BabyMetal. Cool. I get what you said about not connecting what you said and what you heard, someone said is like an oxymoron and we can totally see why. This shouldn't work but they made it. A brief basic info for you: BabyMetal is a Japanese metal dance unit created in 2010 under another Jpop/Jrock group called Sakura Gakuin, they had 11 and 12 years old and become independent after 2013, they created their own genre called kawaii-metal (kawaii means cute), mixing Jpop with metal sound and different subgenres along with many more rhythms, they are: *SuMetal* lead vocalist. *MoaMetal* scream and dance. *YuiMetal* scream and dance, former member since 2018. None of them are related. This was released in 2013 when having around 13/14 and 15 yo, so is one of their early hits and is full of japanese elements, like the _shamizen_ a japanese traditional instrument, and is a party festival song. Btw they really made a ritual and praise to the Fox God for this song to be successful -NotACult- Song is about female empowerment and if you get to know in-depth the lyrics you'll see about it, to say it right just go google translate type the word and read the japanese side but also if you listen carefully you'll hear them singing. "Megitsune" means female vixens, and they talk about women acting with a smile in their face while crying inside, just to fit in society or what is expected from them, when they're kind to you, they're not trying to make falling in love with them, they're just being their own way, and that tend to confuse and male people think they're cheating or deceiving. When SuMetal (the lead singer) is throwing a front kick she's saying _"maiden shouldn't be uderstimated",_ that refers to a japanese mob film about some boss mafia daughter before attacking someone. During official MV instead of that SuMetal do something different, she really looks cool doing it, highly recommended but also highly blocked so take precautions. Megitsune is a quintessential BM song and one of the most beloved, SuMetal said she didn't mastered yet, that's why you will hear her doing sound check with this song before live concerts. My favorite version is the "Red Fox Festival" with only a room full of megitsune, you can find that at Babymetal Reactor Resource under " Me - Git - Sune All female audience" title. This was live at Budokan Arena 2014, reaching a huge goal with only 14 and 16 yo. They did two wonderful nights in a row but with some struggles, especially the first night called Red Night, this one was Black Night, last year they came back to this same place to celebrate their 10 Years anniversary and take revenge from those hard days when debuting, that shows you how hard working they are. The Kami Band is a set of elite musicians, the best you can find in Japan. According to the lore (yep, they got a lore) they were send to help the girls with metal sound. They're wearing burial robes similar to japanese spirits, kami means roughly "god", so they're the band of the Fox God 🦊🤘 They rotate, especially the guitarrists, so you won't see all the same members on every concerts. For your next reaction I'll recommend: - "Catch Me If You Can" with Kami Band intro live at Budokan 2014, GuilhermeCait got a version safe to react, no need for live compilation.🙏 - "Ijime Dame Zettai" live at Sonisphere Festival 2014 another must watch, just careful with the official channel version sometimes got some troubles. - "Rondo Of Nightmare" or "Akatsuki live at Budokan 2014, Rondo got a Kami Band intro so don't miss out that, and both songs are dark and powerful SuMetal solos, she got 4 songs in total. - "Onedari Daisakusen" live at Legend 1997, this is a Black Babymetal subgroup song with only YuiMetal and MoaMetal, they got 4 songs too in total. You got more japanese references and meanings on this song but I'll let the rest keep explaining and adding info so i don't wanna get boring you with a wall of text lol If you really want to know more about them you can watch "A BabyMetal Guide" by CrypticMisery channel, but before that try to watch "Babymetal Death" live at Legend 1997 and BxMxC to avoid some spoilers. I'll leave another recommendation for you and where to get original clips of their best live performance safe to react down below. Thanks for sharing this and see you next time. Sore! 🦊🤘.

We know Amuse is very hard to deal with copyright blocked issues, fortunately we got a way to go around with "Babymetal Reactor Resource" YT place, you'll get full original clips of their best live performance with watermarked logo safe to react, look for "Future Plans" vid, follow instructions and you'll get all of them, upload the one with the logo for us and you can watch without it, don't worry for us we already saw all of them. You'll find some watermarked clips in the channel also with the description and where to get the non-logo version. If you want you can watch the original clean version and pause whenever you like to say your comment and after that you can put a logo provided in the same place so you can enjoy a clean version from the beginning. You can also put some heavy opacity and translucent effect to avoid those issues if necessary. However there are some safe clips to react like those from Legend 1997 or some of Budokan 2014 or previous to this year and Festivals that is out of reach from Amuse hands. By all means AVOID live compilations at least for first time watching, not saying all of them are bad but chances are you'll end up facing the bad ones bad edited, very confusing, switching costumes and distracting you from the performance and meaning of the song. Also avoid Glastonbury Festival performance, the sound is bad and the crowd isn't the usual fans. Here's some examples of safe to react live performances: - "Headbangeeeeerrrrr!!!!!" live at Legend 1997 (2013, you can find this a "Gans Tomas" channel or "abr metal") or Legend I (2012). - "Rondo Of Nightmare" with Mischiefs Of Gods Intro live at Budokan 2014, this one normally is safe to react without any filters. ("Kawaii Metal" channel got this) - "Catch Me If You Can", you got live at Budokan 2014 with subtitles version at GuilhermeCait channel or live at MetroRock 2015 in Babymetal Reactor Resource channel under the title "CMIYC". - "Ijime Dame Zettai" live at Sonisphere Festival 2014 (lately hasn't been so safe, so careful) - "Karate" live at Download Festival 2016 ("kitsune6001" channel got this one) - Distortion, live at Download Festival 2018 or Rock Am Ring 2018, official channel got the Download version and is safe to react. If you follow this step by step you won't have blocked issues the majority of times, but sometimes there has been issues with certain songs so if you got those try to put opacity, blur or translucent effect, that might help a little bit. Thanks for sharing your BabyMetal reactions and reading this humble recommendation. 🦊🤘

⚡ 💀 💕 / 🦊 ⛩ Kei Kobayashi (Kobametal, or Koba) was a producer with Amuse, Inc., originally working with some of their indy bands. He was also a long time Metalhead. Koba started to think about what kind of group could follow up the success of Perfume, the hugely popular JPop trio, who were also Amuse artists. He became aware of a singer in the Amuse Kids division named Suzuka Nakamoto, or "Su" for short. At that time she was the youngest member of the JPop trio Karen Girl's. One of his ideas (the best one, in his opinion) was to combine her voice and "no holds back" singing style, with Metal music. Karen Girl's disbanded in 2009. In 2010 Su became a first generation member of the school-themed Idol group Sakura Gakuin. BABYMETAL originated as their "Heavy Music Club" sub-unit. Yui Mizuno (Yuimetal) and Moa Kikuchi (Moametal) were added (as "Scream & Dance" members) to provide backing vocals and choreography. They were intended to be "twin-like" angels on either side of Su-metal, the lead singer. BABYMETAL became an independent group when Su aged out (graduated) from Sakura Gakuin in 2013 when she turned 15. Yui and Moa were members of both Sakura Gakuin and BABYMETAL until their Sakura Gakuin graduation in 2015. There are some gatekeeping metal elitists that have an issue with BABYMETAL, but they are widely accepted by the actual musicians. At least the successful ones. : ) Lead singer Su-metal was 16 at the time of this performance at Nippon Budokan, on March 2nd, 2014. This was the Black Night concert, which followed Red Night the previous evening. Yui and Moa were both 14. The two younger members have said that this was the most difficult choreography from the first album. And although it's a big favorite of hers, Su has said that this one is difficult for her to sing live.

Nice reaction, thanks and welcome to BABYMETAL's little crazy universe! Don't worry, brain malfunction, confusion and shock are totally expected from a first time reaction to BABYMETAL 😁 Yes, they are very unique and you cannot see anything like them. They have a lot of strong points: the quality of the song writing, the choreos, different for each song, the live performances (specially their own arena size concerts) and its production (staging, light show, pyro,...). But to me their two main strengths are the Kami Band (the group of session musicians playing on live performances) and, of course, Su-metal's vocals (specially live) being the lead vocalist and the main reason why BABYMETAL was formed. About "Megitsune"... you cannot go wrong with it, specially with a live performance like this from the Budokan Black Night concert in 2014. Whoever recommended this one to you did a great job. Really good version of one of their most representative songs also including a cool Japanese touch. "Megitsune" is also an absolute fan favorite and their most played live song with 242 times. Until next time!

Babymetal created the metal genre, "Kawaii Metal" which means "Cute Metal". It's a fusion of JPop vocals and dance with heavy metal music which seems like it shouldn't work, but it does. And it's fantastic. Edit: If you want to see more, please react to Road of Resistance live from Japan. An epic performance!

Great Band...I'm an old metalhead, started back in the 1970's with bands like AC/DC and Black Sabbath. Babymetal is the real deal, and the whole band and young ladies put a ton of work into their performances. This Megitsune was one of their first releases, maybe try a newer song that shows how they have grown-- like "Brand New Day" or "Kagarou"(there is a live HD version with the Kami Band opening that will show you all the band members). 🤘🦊🤘

Great & welcome & thanks from Japan 有難う💛。 You are receiving tons of information about BM from many fans in various countries. Their activities have been worldwide since 2014 right after this show was filmed. You are residing in UK, the girls' "the second home", and the concert at Stodola, Warsaw on June 8, 2020 in your homeland was unfortunately cancelled due to COVID. In the latest world tours from June 2019 through March 2020 (prior to COVID), they performed live 20 times in USA (in 18 states), 19 in Europe tour (11 countries) and 1 in Taiwan in addition to 15 in Japan. Last year, they restarted their activities and completed 10 serial concerts here in Tokyo taking very strict countermeasures against infection. I witnessed their shows at the venue ヽ(^o^)丿 Please explore BABYMETAL more!

If you were to react to more Babymetal, you wouldn't go wrong! They have been around since 2011 and have only three studio albums but all three have truly excellent songs. I have no doubt that many will tell you that Babymetal is best served live (and I tend to agree) but I wouldn't be too quick to dismiss several of their music videos. I recommend that you go back to their first music video "Doki Doki Morning" ( kzbin.info/www/bejne/mZrVmYRunrGXmNk ) then perhaps move forward from there. Insofar as live goes, I suggest that you watch their "Legend 1997" concert ( kzbin.info/aero/PLdBAj9hZ91wCao72oSqTMLrGpIDOqzR2Q ) for most of their early songs. Welcome to the foxhole!!! Great first reaction and don’t worry the confusion is quite normal at first. Babymetal was formed in 2010 under another jpop idol group “Sakura Gakuin” and became independent in 2013. The dancing/choreography is an essential part of Babymetal to tell the story of the song, so that people that don’t speak Japanese can understand it too. Megitsune is all about woman empowerment (Babymetal really has a good few songs with important messages behind, but they don’t hesitate to make some silly songs as well). Where should you go next in your journey down the foxhole? I’d say “Headbanger” is always a good choice. See you in the next one!

Nice reaction! The confusion is absolutely normal after the first time hearing BABYMETAL. The heavy music with the cute girls, clean and melodic vocals, energetic dancing and positive mood is very new for everyone who is used to the „usual“ Metal. It may be little much to take in all at once. After the second song the confusion is usually joined by the realization of how amazingly unique it really is and how much talent there is involved in all aspects, before by the third song you are hooked and cannot let go. I have been a metalhead for pretty much all my life, but I have never been so impressed and obsessed with any other band before. It feels like they breathe new life not only into Metal, but into me as well. The positivity that surrounds them is so fresh and uplifting. The music itself is very diverse, spanning several sub-genres of Metal, combined with all sorts of musical genres from all over the planet. Some songs are on the heavier side, some on the poppier side, most somewhere in between. „Road of Resistance“ would be a great example of a more „traditional“ Metal song (although there‘s still choreography, cute girls and female vocals, of course). The show featured in the official music video could be called a lesson in live presentation. The video tends to get blocked, though, so you‘d be well advised to take some measures like frequent pausing and possibly a semi-transparent video overlay. On the more playful side, I would recommend „Headbanger“. The performance from the „Legend 1997“ show would be a great choice. But you can’t really go wrong with any song, there are no bad ones. Some will always get blocked, though.

Megitsune means female fox in Japanese. In ancient Japan, there is a legend that foxes disguise themselves as beautiful women to deceive men. Megitsune is also a derogatory term for such cunning women. Babymetal's three girls take to the stage with fox masks in hand. This song has a positive meaning that a girl acquires wisdom and strength in the process of growing into an adult woman.

So you’re going to negate Show Ya! (1981) Destrose. (2005) Aldious (2008) Mary’s Blood (2010) and the 100 or so other all-female hard rock and metal bands from Japan in the last decade? BABYMETAL had money behind them and a great act but they are just one part of a genre where talent, musicianship and hard work make for great music. BABYMETAL are more performance art than a band too - it’s fantastic, but the authentic BABYMETAL today would be Hanabie or Trident, the pinnacle of the genre today would be Nemophila. Don’t get me wrong, I love BABYMETAL and they are “metal” but you still need some *s after that description whereas Aldious or Nemophila, for example, need none.

Money behind them? They started out with NO money. Just a passion project from their producer at Sakura Gakuin. They had to borrow their clothes for their performances and didn’t have money for a real band. They had friends dressed up in homemade skeleton costumes pretending to play instruments but actually miming to a backtrack. They played strip malls and small venues until they gained a huge following. They hired their “real” backing band (The Kami Band) in 2012 after already performing for two years. They paid their dues and made it on THEIR own.

@@hotmail305 To be totally honest, Babymetal did NOT start with a lot of money. All the money they ended up with they earned on their own merit. Their first outfits were just clothes that they either borrowed from their teachers, or from each other. They couldn't afford the Kami Band to perform with them, so they had a soundtrack behind them while they performed and they hired the Babybones to pretend to play instruments. Now don't get me wrong, I'm NOT taking anything away from the other female bands, and I do know what you're trying to say Allan Moger when you said Babymetal girls need a band whereas the others like Bandmaid, and Nemophila ARE the band and the singers, but I think what maybe I_ride was trying to say (I may be wrong), is that Babymetal REVIVED, and perhaps inspired other bands all throughout the decade. Because I WOULD say that. I don't know that the other girl bands would have formed or had as much ... whats the word ... traction, if it weren't for Babymetal.

@@jeremyboynowski3784 I think what I_ride was getting at was that Babymetal created Kawaii "cute" Metal, while bands like Band Maid or Nemophila ARE Metal Bands, they are not part of the Kawaii Metal genre. Babymetal didn't revive anything, they created, and as you pointed out, they started from nothing and are now an international sensation.

Babymetal are definitely unique and on first listening they confuse everybody! I'm 55 and I found Nightwish during the pandemic and now have tickets for 2 shows here in England and have followed your journey with them - I knew about Babymetal before the pandemic and saw them in concert here in London in February 2020. I am so happy I found them - along with Nightwish they brighten my day and I truly wish you to explore the Babymetal Foxhole (not Rabbit Hole!) as you will not be disappointed. The juxtaposition of the girls and the very hard 'Kami Band' just shouldn't work but it delightfully does somehow which makes them truly unique. There are some metal purists who just dismiss them out of hand for no apparent reason, but Babymetal are an experience, not just a concert, very similar to Nightwish really! I've written too much but I sincerely hope you do some more Babymetal - I know you love Nightwish and I firmly believe you'll grow to love the adorable Su Metal , Moa Metal and Yui Metal. Btw, the Kami Band have the best guitarists in the World - not just my opinion - they were always appearing around the top of the best guitarists lists in popular music magazines etc for a number of years. I'll suggest some songs when you do your next one. Take good care of yourselves 😃

The name Babymetal comes from the fact that they birthed a new genre of heavy metal called Kawaii Metal (Cute Metal) a mixture of J-pop and heavy metal. The 3 girls are Babymetal (Su-metal, Yui-metal and Moa-metal) and the musicians are called the Kami Band (God Band). If you continue to watch their live performances then you should be ready for a wild and exciting musical ride. I would recommend Headbanger from the Legend of 1997 concert or Karate from the 2016 Download Festival as your next video. Kitsune Up!🦊🤘

Great reaction...and being a bit confused is not unusual! They are a J-Pop / Metal fusion "experiment" that was started back in 2010 (there is a long history on it, to be seen at a later date). That experiment almost immediately started to catch on, it is called "Kawaii Metal", also known as "Cute Metal". I'm sure others will give you much more detail...and I do suggest checking out more of their music, it really is a whole new experience. If you can react to "Road Of Resistance - Live in Japan", you would get a better idea of their power and versatility. Looking forward to more!

Nice reaction. These three looks so innocent. Nobody told you looks can be deceiving. These three are guilty. Guilty of starting the genre known as Kawaii metal. A blend of Jpop vocal and dance with Metal music and styling. They've been around for over 10 years now. And they have a new album on its way. They baby in the name is about that new genre. Not really about the ladies. Even though they were very young when they started. The shock and confusion mostly goes away. I say mostly because their next song will sound very little like this song. so you will be confused all over again. While musically it's all based on metal of some kind. The often mix it with other kinds of music as well. Sometimes multiples kinds at the same time. Their dance style is a mix of dance styles as well. On their last album Babymetal switched mixed things up again as they used multiple vocal styles as well. They had touched upon that before then. But this time they used vocal styles from around the world. Showing how much they have grown as artist. Enjoy your journey through the foxhole and into the Babymetal galaxy of music.

Welcome to the foxhole. For the next BM songs check out "Road of Resistance - live in Japan and "Headbanger - Legend 1997". Babymetal have their origins back in 2010 as part of the Amuse talent agency's school themed idol group Sakura Gakuin. The lead singer is called Suzuka Nakamoto and she was in another Amuse group called Karen Girls and when the producer Kei Kobayashi saw her perform he thought her voice would be well suited to a more metal style. Su then joined Sakura Gakuin and Kobayashi paired her with Yui Mizuno and Moa Kikuchi in the "Heavy Metal Club". The girls were 11 and 12 and initially it was a small project with the singing done to backing tracks, but it was high energy and original and the group became so popular that Amuse spun BM off from SG, integrated them with some world class backing musicians who make up The Kami Band and gave them increasingly large budgets. Their stage shows are now enormous spectacles with large audiences. This concert was recorded in 2014 at Budokan arena and Su is 16 and Yui and Moa are 14. Megitsune (vixen) is one of of BM's "empowerment" songs and it subverts many traditional Japanese attitudes to women. The energetic dance with the high leg lifts contrasts with the restrained and restricted movements of the traditional dance in the breakdown. So right from the start BM are challenging expectations. In Japan the fox is believed to be a clever shape shifter and the lyrics liken women to female foxes in the way they have to be different things in different situations and are often crying inside while they are smiling outside. Su, Moa and Yui mime wearing a mask with their hands and also putting on make up which shows how women have to hide their true faces. The breakdown music is a traditional song called "Sakura Sakura" (Cherry Blossom, Cherry Blossom), but this is also subverted with the heavy metal riff and Su sings "kitsune, kitsune" (fox, fox) rather than "sakura, sakura". Also, Megitsune was written at a time when BM were breaking away from their parent idol group, Sakura Gakuin, and the Fox God is BM's patron deity so it's speculated that singing "kitsune" is expressing their growing independence from Sakura Gakuin. You've also got to include the "super lady" concept of Sakura Gakuin which is hinted at in the lyrics, but there's a bit of tension there as BM are maybe down playing it a bit and emphasizing being true to yourself. Su's expression of female strength reaches a peak when she shouts "Otome wa nametara ikan zeyo" or "Maidens should not be underestimated", and does a front kick.

With every live performance each song has its own choreography. It's not just random dancing or jumping but is actually interpretive and helps with the understanding of the lyrics. A lot of their songs have positive messages. This song Megitsune is a female empowerment song, which many others here will tell you about. BABYMETAL has been performing for over ten years and still going strong. They should be releasing new songs/album within a year. The fan base called The One have access to snippets of new material coming out, hopefully soon. A big favourite of many fans would be Headbangeeeeerrrrr!!!!! from Legend 1997 concert or Road of Resistance Live in Japan. Whatever BABYMETAL song you choose we suggest you watch live performances. Although BABYMETAL has some really good MVs, their live shows are the best. BABYMETAL excels at live. 🤘🦊🤘 PS the fox symbol is predominant with BABYMETAL and their lore. You will see it everywhere at their shows. They even hold their hands like a fox shadow play instead of using the metal "devil horns"

They play metal but they are indeed very pure and innocent. All their songs are very wholesome and deal with topics of growing up, friendship, supporting each other and such things. The crowd participation is something very big on Babymetal concerts. The two girls on each side are there to do some chants and cheers and to show the crowd what cheers they should do. When they jump, the whole crowd jumps, when they bow the whole crowd bow. I hope you'll do some more Babymetal. I'm sure your confusion will be replaced by amazement and appreciation :)

Originally this band was 'constructed' by a producer who calls himself Kobametal. The girls, who were picked at a young age from a school of performance arts, only had experience of pop music and were completely unfamiliar with metal. They were basically a jpop act with some metal elements performed by an anonymous band of session musicians. The metal parts were really good though and strangely enough they gained fans from the more 'serious' metalheads around the world, which caused the experimental jpop act to evolve into an actual metal band which started touring the western metal festivals and became as respected as any of the established western metal bands. :) I think it's fair to say that Babymetal is one of the most iconic and perhaps also influential metal bands of recent years since they opened the door for and brought a wave of asian metal fusion music to the west.

The three girls all attended regular schools. Additionally, Su-metal attended Actor's School Hiroshima, a performing arts school. Babymetal started as a subunit or subgroup of the Jpop Idol group Sakura Gakuin (Cherry Blossom Academy). It was not an actual school, but rather an Idol group with a school theme for girls 10-15 years old. Amuse, the owning agency, did use the group activities to develop the talents of the members.

Indeed, as you picked up on, this song incorporates a traditional dance and a traditional folk song melody that is well know by Japanese. The "washoi washoi" and "sore sore" that they use in this song to hype up the crowd are also traditional festival chants. Kitsune is "fox" in Japanese, which are thought to have supernatural powers in Japanese folklore and often trick or deceive humans. "Megitsune" is a female fox which often refers to a woman who is deceptive, but this song kind of flips that and says "from the time of birth, women are actresses" (Onna wa jouyuu da yo), "We laught with our face, cry with out minds, just agreeing, showing no tears" kind of showing that they are forced to be deceptive (especially in a male dominated culture like Japan very much still is). "To bloom and to wither is the fate of a woman/ Laugh with our face/ Cry in our minds/ We are all just pure-hearted womanly vixen". The part where the music cuts out and she speaks into the mic she is basically saying "If you underestimate us, you'll regret it" in a very rough street slang ("nametara ikanzeyo"). In the music video for this song (where the girls are something like 13 and 11 years old), she actually pulls a knife out of the mic she is holding that was hidden inside to emphasize her point). For your next song, I would recommend "Headbanger" but specifically the live version from their "Legend of 1997" tour (1997 is the year Su-Metal, the lead singe was born) for her 16th birthday, and NOT the compilation version.

As stated above Babymetal referes to a new (baby) type of music. The group (formed in 2010) are Su (Singer/Dance) Moa Scream/Dance think cheerleader) and Yui (Scream/Dance). If you continue your journey down the Fox Hole you will discover their music covers several different genres. And many have messages hidden in them. This particular song is basically about women empowerment. It's saying how women are "supposed" to act. part of the lyric translate to. Ah, girls are becoming more like an ideal woman Smiling at face, crying at heart Saying "It's right", we never show our tears The have another song Ijime, Dame Zettai which is an anti-bullying song. if you want to discover more Japanese rock, I advise you to discover the visual kei movement that developed in Japan. Visual kei, literally "visual style" or "visual system", also known as visual rock is a Japanese musical movement, characterized by the wearing of different levels of makeup, elaborate clothing, style from ancient Japan, especially Kabuki theater, where men played female roles but not always coupled with androgynous aesthetic characteristics. Each group has its visual universe more or less important, each member of the group has its character to play and each tour is a new show. one of the founding band is X Japan (I recommend Kurenai's live from the last live tour of 1996, the last live before the band's separation). I also recommend L'Arc~en~Ciel, another legendary group. I particularly like my heart draws a dream live (national stadium). She makes me calm and happy. Or the l'arcasino tour, Magic! Darker, I particularly like Dir en grey. Live: korou (just wow) and in video Vinushka which shows so well the shock that was the atomic bomb. The most heartbreaking for me, The Gazette with Taion live from 12-13 years ago. I advise you to read about the horrible murder of junko furuta beforehand to feel the full power of this song and its interpretation. torrents of tears. It is enough to hear the deep silence which is done as soon as this song is sung in concert. Crazier, Mejibray live with Kore wo izon to yobu nara.
