BABYMETAL - MEGITSUNE (Official) | Reaction

"Megitsune" is one of their most loved songs and their most played live one: 382 times... and counting! It was released in June 2013. Su-metal was 15 years old while Yuimetal and Moametal were both 13 (about to turn 14) back then. The style sub-genre is electronicore, a mix between electronica and metalcore with a hardcore style breakdown. That breakdown hits hard and (apart of those pig squeals) the melody is from a well known Japanese folk song called "Sakura Sakura" (Cherry Blossoms). When Su-metal pulls out the "tanto" (short blade) she says: "Otome wa... nametara ikan zeyo" ("Maidens... shouldn't be underestimated"). The word "Megitsune" = "me" + "kitsune" which means female + fox so, vixen. Hence the "kitsune" masks everywhere. In Japanese folklore, the "kitsune" is an entity capable to transfigure into a human form (mainly into a young lady) with the objective to deceive men and cause them pain. So, they sing that they aren't "kitsunes" but "megitsunes", "pure-hearted maiden-like female foxes", as the lyrics say. It's basically a women empowerment song. BABYMETAL fans are known collectively as "The ONE" and "kitsune" / "megitsune" individually. So, you can tell this song is important! Good one. This was released in June 2013 so Su-metal was just 15, Yuimetal and Moametal were both 13 (nearly 14). They were already so good, they have just got better and better ever since. You could watch a recent live performance to see how this song sounds now they are older. Live at PIA Arena April 2023 or live at Legend MM March 2024 are both excellent performances - or you could watch an earlier live performance from Budokan Black Night in March 2014. Better still, watch them all.

Awesome. There are many layers to this MV. I like it because it gives more insight into their message. I also learn so much from the comments from the fan base: for instance, one pointed out how at the beginning YUI and MOA pull on SU’s Japanese costume and the next scene she is transformed into SU-METAL. 🦊 🖖❤

Nice reaction. Though I recommend you to watch this song again, but now a live version of it. Could be an early one or one from 2023/2024, to see how they matured. But mainly because of the crowd interaction. They started in 2010, when Su was 13 und Yui and Moa were just 11. There are videos out on YT showing Su singing when she was 8-10 years old. Su singing Babymetal solo: There are 4 "Su Babymetal" solo songs, which highlight her voice even better. Though there are also 4 Babymetal songs with just Yui and Moa (search Black Babymetal) And then there are rare early solos by all three of them, which they performed during the Legend 1999/1997 concerts back in 2013. Since you're enjoying Babymetal, I really highly recommend their live performances! You can find a bunch on their official page. Their music videos are great, but for Babymetal the live performances are where it's at, it's what they do best.

It's good to see that you have an appreciation for BABYMETAL - you'll be member of The One in no time! Since this is your second at-bat with BABYMETAL, allow me to suggest that you go back to the beginning - see where they’ve been before getting caught up in where they are - and react to their first two music videos, "Doki Doki Morning" and "Iine!" (pronounced "E-nay"). I'm sure you will find both very entertaining. There is a playlist on KZbin, "BABYMETAL Top Twenty" (kzbin.info/aero/PLdhz2aj0pt4zPl0BZLevPUR9uHKQA27uj ), that includes those two music videos and the one you just reacted to, and it includes both official music videos and live performances. Until you’ve seen their earlier work, you haven't really experienced BABYMETAL. In regards to the energy of BABYMETAL: first, none of these girls (at the time of this video) are above the age of 16 - that age when you have the energy of a nuclear power plant. Second, unlike many other metal bands, these ladies aren't wrung out on drugs and/or alcohol so naturally they just keep going and going and going. Third, if you understand the Japanese ethos, giving something your all is how they do things (unlike most of us lazy-ass Americans). I have heard that many times after their concerts, Su, Moa, and Yui would literally drop after leaving the stage with roadies putting ice packs on them. Might I point out that although it is commendable that you rewind after pausing, you shouldn't have to pause the video any more than three times (and certainly not fifteen seconds before the end of the video!). Just sayin'. 🙂 One last thing: do you think Su-metal's voice is amazing? 😁 Keep rockin’ BABYMETAL!!! KITSUNE UP!!! 🤘🦊🤘
