💕 ⚡ 🌸 / 🌞 Welcome back to BABYMETAL! I always look forward to these reactions. I'll be catching them at the LA Forum in October for the album release show on the 11th. There are quite a few good reasons for having the rotation with the three dancers. Out of respect for Moa, who has been with the group from the start, the "Avengers" do not have a singing role. That helps set Moa apart. This also means that Yui has not been directly "replaced", which could upset her fans. This setup also provides them with options in the case of sickness, injury, etc. They have had a similar arrangement with the Kami Band for many years. The last thing the BABYMETAL team, or Amuse, Inc. wants is a repeat of 2018, and this helps avoid that. They have been very clear that BABYMETAL will be moving forward with Su and Moa at its core. BTW, Riho Sayashi is not listed with Amuse, Inc as an artist, so they don't seem to be limited to that for "Avengers". Although she was well known as the "ace" in Morning Musume for her singing and dancing, she has been focusing on her dancing for the last few years.
Great reaction, as always, fellas! Love hearing you discuss them as well. Hopefully you'll also do a reaction to Shanti. Here's a link to the Glastonbury performance. kzbin.info/www/bejne/rWaknXiXq8mcpqM (Other YT-reactors seem to have been doing fine with this video, copyright wise.) The song's been called "Shanti" by the fans, because it's prominent in the lyrics. Officially, however, it only has a working title of "Ind-metal", i.e. "Indian metal". (It was spotted on a set list at Brixton.) What Su and Moa have said about the new album, recently, is that it will reflect the journey across the world they've made over the last couple of years and will incorporate musical and thematic influences from around the world. This, "Pa Pa Ya!!", is with a Thai rapper and sings about a Thai dish, a spicy papaya salad and Shanti has strong Indian music influences. Something that they themselves have stressed as well is, that BABYMETAL has evolved: it's still "kawaii" but it's more mature now. And Su and Moa seem happier than ever. Which is great to see after the dark times of 2018. Thank you for reacting to BABYMETAL again and I'm watching forward to the next one! Rock on! Kitsune up!

Great reaction. So pleased you're going to see them, if it is anything like Brixton was (and I'm sure it will be just as good or even better by February) you'll love it. I've ordered my tickets for Hammersmith too ... I needed a repeat of (or something very much like) what I saw in Brixton. F Hero is a rapper from Thailand, his rap is in Thai about a papaya summer salad - they really are going international on the new album it seems. With regard the three girls dancing in Yui's place - at the start of the shows in Yokohama they announce three "Chosen Avengers" will be supporting Su and Moa, but who will be at which shows "only the Fox God knows" (of course). Riho Sayashi - was at Yokohama 1, Glastonbury, Brixton and the first Legend M (Moa's 20th birthday) show. She is 21 and a former leading member of Idol group Morning Musume. She was also with Su many years ago at the Actors School Hiroshima where apparently they shared a friendly rivalry. Kano Fujihira - was at Yokohama 2 (where this video was filmed, so that is her on the right) and (I think) the second Legend M show. She is 14 (15 in August) and is the current student council president with Sakura Gakuin - a position held by both Su and Moa in their time there. When she played at Yokohama 11 girls were seen going in to see the show all wearing masks - probably the rest of the current Sakura Gakuin girls. The third 'Avenger' is yet to be seen and identified. Paz is right about Moa doing a little more than just chants in the new songs and providing more back up and harmonies. Shanti was listed as 'Ind-metal' on the Brixton set list (I love that song). Tattoo is now officially called 'Kagerou'. There are a couple more songs (very shaky fancams only so far) being called 'Arcadia' and 'Shining' ... Arcadia is fast, Shining had Moa playing an acoustic guitar mounted on a stand at the start and Su's vocals are haunting - from the little I managed to see and hear I think it could be yet another new favourite for me. Yui and Moa took over lead vocals half way through Headbanger on/near their respective 15th birthdays (fan cam videos only) - Moa did it again at legend M for her 20th.

You mentioned how this would probably be ther only concert where you leave happy? YES! You do! When I saw them in 2014 in NYC, I was in a whole other level of giddiness. I couldn't stop smiling. Every single person leaving was on cloud 9. I hope your experience is life changing like it was for most of us in the community. About the lyrics: This song's lyrics are literally about having a fun summer festival. The rap, by F HERO is in Thai with bits and pieces in English. The rap was designed to sound like the rhythm of preparing spicy Thai papaya salad. The "pok pok" sound made during preparation. The guitar riffs have elements of traditional Thai music and instrumentation.

I also want to note that Riho is not of the same talent agency as Babymetal. Riho comes from Up-Front (Morning Musume's parent company) and BM are from Amuse. However, Riho did go to Hiroshima Actor's School with Su-metal before she auditioned for Morning Musume in 2011, which might have been the connection she needed to get offered the role as a supporting dancer.
This and Shanti were definitely the highlights of their Glastonbury set. Shanti is a great Japanese Bollywood type song so check that one out next.

The third member, the woman of this MV, is "Fujihira Kano". She is a 14 year old, and member of "Sakura Gakuin" (Amuse). Kano loves BM and especially respects Moa-Metal. Glastonbury's woman is "Sayashi Riho". She is 21 and was born in Hiroshima, Su-Metal was a classmate and rival of "Actors school Hiroshima", where they belonged to in the early teens. Riho left the big group in 2015, maybe now she is freelancer. (by google trans)

They've actually taken a lemon and made lemonade with the absence of Yui situation. They have 3 girls they are rotating, we've seen two of them. Each are known Idols from other groups. What they've done is bring in the millions of fans from those Idol groups who have taken an interest in Babymetal because their favorite Idol (or a member of their favorite Idol group) is performing. The girl in this video is Kano, from Sakura Gakuin. She is the Sukara Gakuin Class President this year, a position Moa held in 2014 and Su held in 2012. The girl that appeared at Glastonbury is a former center of one of the biggest Idol groups in Japan, Morning Musume. You were looking for a reason? There you go. That's a big one. The stated goal of Babymetal is to bring metal to people who would not otherwise be interested in metal. You can't find a better example of that goal in action than what they've done here. The other is that it would appear Su and Moa don't want another permanent member just yet.
@lukesomerville66035 жыл бұрын
I agree with you 100%. Personally, I don't know if it necessarily WOULD be a good idea to find a permanent replacement for Yui. In my honest opinion, Moa was always the one pulling the heavy weight for Black Babymetal. Yui never really felt... right. For instance, GJ is one of my favorite tracks of theirs, but when Yui got her chance to shine on Sis Anger it just fell flat for me, specifically because of Yui's voice. Nothing against her, but I think her departure is the best thing that could have happened for the band. I think, after the masterful move of bringing in the other Idol members to help expand their demographic, Babymetal could really flourish if Moa and Su take center stage together and play off of each other. The dynamic may shift a bit, but maybe it's for the best. All will be revealed when Metal Galaxy comes out, I suppose. Praying for more Moa solos though

I saw that show in Yokohama that they filmed for that video. I was lucky enough to already be in Japan on vacation and then they scheduled that concert. It was amazing! The fans, the community is unbelievable. I have seen a lot of concerts... this is unworldly. Only complaint us westerners sometimes say, is that the concerts are too short.. they only last about an hour, maybe a bit more... Yokohama was about 75 minutes... but it was so high energy and so joyful, just enjoy every minute. I have tickets to see them twice here in the US now, including the LA arena show. Can’t wait! Thanks for the video!

I saw Babymetal for the first time when I turned on the TV to catch some Glasto this year and they were just starting PAPAYA. It's what I now show people when I want to introduce them to Babymetal as it's the perfect intro to their style and sound (all of the concert is on YT). Got tickets to see them in cardiff in Feb 2020. The last metal band I saw live in Cardiff was Black Sabbath in 76, when I was 15, but I think, at 58, I'm looking forward to seeing these more. Great commentary, guys, very interesting.

I don't follow Babymetal as closely as many, but I follow them close than most. My thoughts on the rotating girl really comes down to two things. One as was said, Babymetal has a grueling pace. Su and Moa have grown up in it, and are probably in as good condition as a professional athlete. The new girl isn't as well conditioned, Look to the Glastonbury performance. Babymetal played Friday night in Yokohama with Riho, Saturday night in Yokohama with Kano, and then Sunday afternoon in Glastonbury again with Riho, and by the end of the show Riho was showing signs of being tired. But it was 3 shows in 3 days for Su and Moa and long flight yet they were fresh and popping with energy. The physical nature of the show may be a factor. Also I don't think management wanted the fans to grab onto a girl yet. 2018 was a bad year, and I think the intent is to focus on Su and Moa, which is why I think the Kami are wearing masks and solos have fallen off a bit. I think management wants to relaunch with Su and Moa front and center with few distraction, and a permanent girl would take away from that. It would also give a bit of a bump down the road if they added one. I also wonder if there is not a plan to add a specific third girl who was not available for these shows. I am thinking of Hana Taguchi, who with Moa and Yui formed a subgroup in Sakura Gakuin. She has been performing in an act which just ended its run a couple of weeks ago. It would not surprise me to see her as the third girl. Riho by the way Su has known from childhood. There are clips of her performing on stage with Su and their performing arts school as amateurs In the end I think Su and Moa have a lot of say if someone joins or not. And it could be contractual too - a third member would need to get paid. You should watch the Glastonbury performance. What I don't like about this one is that it was prerecorded vocals over a live performance. I am forgiving of that in this case as it was released 2 days after the performance, and that is really not enough time to engineer the audio. Getting the video cut in two days was work in itself. I prefer live vocals and instruments though.

"I feel happier!" Great reaction. As for the rotating "avengers" in the third spot, theories include: 1) want to have backups for the nightmare of dealing with Yui's injury is never repeated, 2) it's an audition and they will go permanent, and 3) they are waiting for the second avenger to graduate high school (current just entering high school, she's a Sakura Gakuin president, like Su- and Moa).
Babymetal/band maid/nightwish have by far the best fanbases.

It's not their most impressive song musically, it's just a fun summer anthem. The instrumentation is pop metal, but the tune makes me think of Mexican fiesta music from a sixties Italian western. As it happens, I love a good sixties Italian western, so I'm well pleased with this one :-)

The legendary Glasgow Barrowland for me, where I saw Motorhead when I was 23 and Mastodon on my 50th birthday. Babymetal will tear the roof off! Also, a friend of mine was at Glastonbury. Not a metal fan especially, he wandered over to the Other Stage to see Babymetal out of curiosity and thoroughly enjoyed himself. I think their appearance at the biggest festival in the world, and the BBC coverage that goes with it, will have expanded their fan base considerably, and not only in the UK. Okay, I'm going to be that guy. The three dancers in Yui's "position" are known as "Avengers". Two of the three have been revealed. Fujihara Kano was in this video. She is the current Student Council President of Sakura Gakuin (A position that both Suzuka and Moa have held) the "idol" group that Babymetal were once a part of. It was Sayashi Riho who appeared at Glastonbury and Brixton. She used to be in another idol group called Morning Musume who are probably bigger in Japan than Babymetal and was a contemporary of Suzuka's at the Actor’s School Hiroshima (ASH). The third Avenger has yet to be revealed and there has been much speculation as to who she will be. The reasoning behind the rotation has been masked in "lore". It could be out of respect for Yui, a matter of availability or a rolling audition to see which girl works best with the other two or proves more popular with the fans. As usual, Only the Fox God knows! Further information (you love it!). The song "Tattoo" has been officially named "Kagerou". Various bootlegs of shows in Japan have also revealed the fan-titled "Arcadia", which is more along the lines of IDZ or Road of Resistance and (again, fan-titled) "The Shining", which features one Moametal briefly playing acoustic guitar during the intro. Great to hear you're finally getting to see them live. They do produce a euphoria that should be available on the NHS! I'll be seeing them at the Hammersmith Odeon (showing my age again) and I can't wait!

I think the three avengers are rotating as Moametal’s partners because, so far, nobody can keep up with Moametal. The Babymetal act is physically demanding. Cool that you are going to see them! I hope we‘ll see a report afterwards! I think the reasoning behind the rotating third member might be that they try to avoid upsetting the Yui fans even more. This way she has not really been „replaced“. Many fans support the theory that they want to avoid running into a similar situation again in case the next one decides to leave, but I can‘t imagine that‘s it. If that were the case, they‘d have to have backups for Moa and * gasp * Su as well. BTW, the girl in this video is 15 year old Fujihira Kano from the current Sakura Gakuin, which I assume you know at least by name. I was sceptical about this song at first, mostly because I don‘t like Rap. But on the second listen I already liked it, and since I have seen it live, I love it. You will enjoy the energy in the crowd during that song! Regarding BABYMETAL‘s evolution, I‘m so happy with what they are doing in 2019! I wasn‘t convinced about their 2018 direction, I always felt that they scrapped too much of the cuteness and that the songs were too simple and „safe“. I wasn‘t the only one to think so, and I don‘t know if Koba noticed this, but what they are doing now seems almost perfect. The outfits are cuter again, the newer songs are more experimental again, and even the girls look happier. And what‘s awesome as well, they are communicating! There have been interviews, announcements, trailers... It‘s heaven to be a BM fan right now! Perhaps you‘d likely check out „Shanti“ (inofficial name) as well? It’s quite interesting, and a good proof of what I said in the previous paragraph. There’s no official MV, but the one from Glastonbury is not bad. I love your comment about expecting to come out of their concert just being happier, that‘s an awesome compliment!

@MacTaipan Best explanation I've heard! And of course kids like to insist on "and a half". To your earlier point, having options with the dancers doesn't necessarily mean that they have to have backups for Su and Moa. Obviously Su in particular is irreplaceable. But having options where you can is just smart. Just look at how they have operated with the Kami Band for many years.

I really hope you check out "Shanti" next. SO DIFFERENT, even for Babymetal... I don't see anyone commenting on the third girl here. This is 14 year old Kano Fujihira, the current Sakura Gakuin class president. She's a huge Moa fan and the girl I'd most like to see be in the spot permanently. In this video, the third is Riho Sayashi, a former member of Morning Musume and former ASH classmate of Su.
