A lovely, beautiful reaction! You are so spot on about Tuomas's and Floor's ability to make us feel things, even against our will. I played this song for my 23 year old daughter a few weeks ago and in the middle of the song she hugged me so tight and held on until the end. I get so emotional every time. Floor also got super emotional and broke into tears when Tuomas explained the song, it's meaning and first played it for her. It took multiple takes to record her vocals because she kept breaking into tears. Final song from the final album of the trilogy. It feels to me like someone saying goodbye to family and friends as their life comes to the end. Loads of beautiful imagery in the lyrics of seeing the end, of reminding those we love that we will always be present, of lamenting the unfinished things we leave behind (as is always the case), and then walking "to the trees". Since Tuomas is famous for writing lyrics for multiple interpretations I could also see this song where the narrator is death personified, much like the way the lyrics in Music were. A third way I see it is that the lyrics aren't necessarily about a person but are instead a metaphor for humanity and our walk through the eons of our existence which would fit well with the themes of the album trilogy. A number of references to Auri and other Nightwish songs. Auri is a side project of Tuomas, Troy, and Tuomas's wife Johanna Kurkela ( a well known Finnish pop/folk singer) that makes beautiful atmospheric mood music. "I am in the light and flood" and " I am in the four winds" IMO are shout outs to the Auri songs Light and Flood and The Name of the Wind, very beautiful instrumentals that have a similar feel. For me the line "I am you who climbed off your back" gives me Decades in the Sun vibes and of course "To the meadows I go" is tapping into the same symbolism and meaning as Meadows of Heaven. Heartachingly beautiful song and a perfect bookend to the album and trilogy. A beautiful tribute to Tuomas's father and all that are the lantern light for our journey through life. I agree with Tuomas, if we have lived a life of joy and meaning then we shouldn't be sad at the end but celebrate a life well lived. I think this song and Epica's Tides of Time will be the songs for my funeral when I pass. You should definitely check out some Auri as well as one of Tuomas's side projects, The Life and Times of Scrooge McDuck (Tuomas wrote the album as a soundtrack to the Scrooge McDuck graphic novels by Don Rosa). For Auri I would recommend Desert Flower, The Space Between, and The Valley. For Scrooge I would recommend A Lifetime of Adventure.
@572Btriode2 ай бұрын
Tuomas Holopainen wrote this just after his father died, he said this: "The last song on the album, Lanternlight, might fool you into thinking it's a sad song, but it's actually a love song and ends up on a very positive vibe. If you have somebody who has lived a very happy and a really long life, it's a moment of celebration and not of grief. This is the message we want to send." I understand took them some time to record this as Floor (A high sensitive person) broke down several times, if you look at the video in HD and on a big screen Floor was in tears in the video. The easy way to go back is the left arrow which gives you exactly 5 secs, right key will do 5 forwards and J key goes back 10 secs.

The interesting thing when you discuss Marco v Troy is how Tuomas takes whatever the lineup gives him--Troy, Marco, Tarja, Anette, Floor--and creates a "Nightwish" around that but one that does not try to recreate the old but takes the new baseline and grows from there. He forms Nightwish to the current talent but it is still Nightwish. What an amazing group.

Floor's voice only became better during her pregnancy, she stated in an interview that even the lower registers were more pleasant so sing than before. She recorded all her vocals for this album at home, 6 weeks after the birth of Lucy. Sitting, as she still had problems standing, but her voice was in shape as you can hear. About (part of) the movie scenes in the background: I recognized pope Leo XIII and wiki is saying: "Leo XIII, who was born in 1810 and was thus 86 years old in 1896, is considered the earliest-born person ever to be captured on film. The images of him are well-known, and recently were enhanced and colorized on-line.”

Thanks for explaining the relevance of the Pope Leo XIII footage. Not immediately obvious given Tuomas’s Lutheran background. The fact that it’s in false colour seems to fit with bringing Darwin’s natural history collection back to life in the Perfume of the Timeless video.

Going back a little bit is a good idea :) Starting deep and low... [This sounds like her solo album, I think Tuomas likes the variety of her singing. Floor said that she chokes up too easily with this song, the band rewinds, during the sessions, to let her recover.] Mmm, the warmth of her voice. “Last night brought the heaviest of snows” That sad piano about to sink below the ice. “Melting the songs of old” A favourite bench, with a view. Reminiscences, love of the souls that have gone before. Tuomas wrote this in memory of his father. The pocket watch to wind... The old style film projector, a “Magic Lantern”. The old flickering movies, like memories. Floor soaring away. Celebration of their lives, rather than mourning. The delicate Piano, the strings Did you get the Tuomas déjà vu references? “I am the snow on your palm” [Storytime?] The way she uses her hands... “I am the secret stream” [Sagan, Shudder Before The Beautiful, Endlessness?] “Moss beneath your feet” [My Walden?] Oooh. “I am you who climbed off of my back” [Our Decades in the Sun?] “Petrichor” (with a hint of green) [The smell of fresh rain on grass, Last Ride Of The Day, Song of Myself?] “Timeless” (with a hint of a smile) [Perfume of the Timeless?] Phew. “To the meadows I go” [Meadows of Heaven?] Her soaring voice again. What? Tissues. I spotted a bus! Then Troy drifts in, with his wavering soft voice, right in the middle of your head. "A human voice alongside?" He made up the word, so his pronunciation, is our guide. :) Floor receding into the distance. Male choir. The projector... Pope Leo Xlll, who served until his death in 1903 at the age of 93. The restored, stabilised and colourised old movies inspired Tuomas. Oh, the Tongan "Sipi Tau", like the Kiwi "Haka" in Children of 'Ata, Rugby fans will hear it!

The feedback you asked: You are definitely doing the right thing by backing up after a pause. It helps to maintain the flow of a transition. And first time listeners have no idea where the key, critical transitions are going to be, so more often than not, a pause is selected right at a key moment that breaks the mood. A backup fixes this issue nicely. A convenient way to do consistent backups is to use the left cursor key. It will reliably drop you back five seconds for each click. Makes no difference to us on the listening end, but it prob'ly makes it easier for you.

Laternlight, the last song of the Album, hit me like a brick. For me, this song is like a farewell, a hug, a consolation, a hope, a regret, a moving on... a source of strength. Although I already knew the song, the video hit me like a wrecking ball. Floor's gentle yet powerful voice combined with the visuals and Floor's vulnerability... Troy's voice at the end also fits very well for me. The grabbing of the film roll at the end of the film.... For me, this song symbolizes the farewell of someone who is leaving us at the very end of their life (they say that at the moment of death you see your life flash before your eyes, which the video somehow symbolizes for me). It symbolizes the sadness of parting, but also the promise that you will somehow always be with those left behind (family, children, friends), because no one leaves the world completely. Don't mourn for me, i had a fullfiled life, but be happy that we were able to spend our time together. Think of me ... for I am in the snowflake in your hands ... in the soil of your garden ... and I go before you in the circle of life ... to new shores, a new journey ...

Musical perfection - as I'm sure someone has told you, Tuomas wrote this for his Father following his passing in 2021, he said its a tribute to and a celebration of a life well lived, for those who lit the way ahead for us. With regard to Troy's vocal towards the end, i have a feeling that is to represent Tuomas's father, the lyric 'i walk now towards the tree's, the night falling at my feet, into the forest of Yesterwynde'. Thats how i feel this anyway. For me, this is possibly the most beautiful song I've ever heard, it doesn't get better.

Any time these days that I hear the term, "Mother Earth", I think of Floor...she is the epitome IMO.

This is another Tuomas Holopainen masterpiece. He only keeps on getting better as his talent and vision matures. Absolutely stunning. This composition is as deep as the Marianas Trench and has more layers than a baklava. It is exquisite. I'm 73 and I am the last man standing in my family. I am the last of the Dorrity line. So this performance runs deep, cuts deep. I understand the feeling of loss, yet I still live with hope and intent. No small thing to live with intent. Nevertheless, Floor's voice and this composition is akin to an emotional depth charge to the heart. There is a tenderness and vulnerability there that I have not heard before, and it just breaks you. And her face, good Lord, her beautiful face so expressive and adorned with nothing save her heart and soul just melts me to my core. Look at her gestures, her hands. So tender, so expressive. Her hands are speaking to you as well in a language unto its own. I am not ashamed to say that this staggeringly beautiful composition and the meaning behind it makes me want to cry on Floor’s shoulder. I’m sure she would understand. The poetry of this song is also heart-rendingly exquisite. It is a poem, a prayer, an elegy. Listen to it. Just listen to it. Tuomas’ poetry can easily stand alone. Some of you get it. Some of you don't. I do, and that's all that matters. Kiitos to all of you in Nightwish for delivering such epic and emotional story telling. Addendum: This is more than a song, more than music, really. This is art and poetry of the highest level. in some respects, it is Tuomas' Finnish soul laid bare.

This song is perfection. I know NW won't be touring for this album, but i hope she will perform this in her solo concerts.

Floor's lower register is my favourite part of her range. Tuomas started writing the album in Jan 2021 and on Feb 6th his father died. This song is at least in part a tribute to him, but aldo, in keeping with the whole theme of the album, a tribute to all our ancestors. There is a lot of reference to how people live on in the world around us (atoms and molecules recycled into moss, stream, water etc). It hits me because it reminds me of my father's death in 2020 from Covid. My favourite track from the album and I think, that of many others. Your videos are never annoying, always beautiful. Going back a few seconds helps re-establish the flow.

I think everything has already been said about this jewel of utter perfection, so I'll talk about something a bit more mundane. If you use your space bar to pause, rather than the mouse, then you won't see the progress bar at the bottom every time it starts playing again as long as your cursor is not in that area. The easiest way to rewind is to use the 'J' key, which will move it back 10 seconds per press. The left arrow key can also be used and that will rewind it 5 seconds per press.

This is a song Tuomas wrote after his father passed away, but i was thinking seeing your beautiful cat Bruno on the photo in the background who passed away a few months ago. This song doesn't have only to go about humans, but also animals we loved and cared for and the memories that we have about them. Absolutely beautiful song
