You just worded what ive been saying the past 10 years❤😂 Each YG group is compared to older generation in the agency. BLACKPINK future 2NE1, IKON future BIGBANG, TREASURE future IKON... but they grow out of it. I think the group feels the pressure if compared to seniors. I get the your perspectives but YG is playing it safe. They willl pop off larer on. Some of the thing's blackpink did was never done befor in YG. No-big new agency reported anything yet not to mention NEVER the biggest celebrity news agency in korea already stated in Ahyeon's case that all rumours have nothing to do with them and are un-varified from their end so they're not accountable for "false-news" so if the biggest mews agency is backing off of their so called news of ahyeon leaving babymonster then I won't be believing any random tweet not to mention the tweet which more likely made just to get the clout considering the timing of the tweet and babymonster debut, infact there is news that she have some throat swelling disease and both YG and her family are collaboratively taking care of her. They do differentiate themselves a bit because of how robust their vocals are being YG's largest gg that is chocked full of top tier vocalists. So they do have some harmonies here and there that don't really shine through with other YG gg's, like at the end they had some subtle harmonies. I think they need to lean hard into that though, full blown choir-esque 6 part(7 part when Ahyeon comes back) harmonies and be in your face with it. Like imagine that classic YG party outro done with a heavy 6 part harmony from the girls... it woulda been off the chain and nothing like any YG girl group has done before.

YG is testing the waters with 'Batter Up.' YG is gatekeeping the songs that will help them blow up as they go up. Ahyeon will make her debut in BABYMONSTER for their comeback. YG will drop another digital single because Ahyeon needs to debut in the group as well. Then they'll give them an EP or a full album.

Like you said I really think they tried to keep it safe with this debut and especially maybe because of Ahyeon not being there with them. I feel like they were really just trying to say, "okay we've held you guys back for so long and we've pushed back our debut long enough but Ahyeon is still not ready, so we're gonna give you this debut to let you know that we're definitely still coming and as a 7 member group." They had a lot of points where they tried to include moments from their other groups. Like you mentioned with the chain, that chain has actually been seen across a lot of YG songs and groups, with either a dog chained up or I can't remember if GD ever had that tiger he had in his video chained up as well? The moment with the bat and the colored hair, I think it was Ruka, (I'm sorry I still don't know the members too well by face, I'm completely new to the fandom) Ruka showed up with this cap on holding a bat and wearing some sort of hoodie and had a red streak in her hair. This scene is straight out of a 2ne1 song I swear I remember seeing it somewhere. xD And then idk if others caught it or not but the chorus sounds kinda like Lisa's Money but like they just somewhat altered it so it doesn't sound too similar and they even included her little hip twerking thing she does in the dance when she lifts her leg up and slightly twirks with her leg up. They also made Chiquita look and dress up exactly like Lisa in one of the scenes and last but not least the iconic YG party scene at the end that everyone knows and loves. The big fur coat is also pretty icon and scene across multiple YG artists music videos as well. xD To me this comeback kinda makes it feel a bit nostalgic even though they're a new group. It's kinda like they're saying, "Okay, you know we're coming. Here's a cool mashup of everything we've provided in the past with our own Baemon flavor to remind you we're still our own group and plan to make an impact pretty soon, so be ready for us." xD Asa's part though...I definitely wasn't expecting that at all so when I listened to this song for the first time, I stopped the video for a bit to just like...process what had just happened and I even replayed it a few times. I didn't know that she even had something to do with writing the lyrics to this song as well?! Like before it was just like okay they did that, they made her rap and it wasn't a small little bit like they're always doing, but now I hear you telling us that she had part in writing the lyrics and it makes me excited for the future. I hope she keeps doing this because she's very talented. They're all talented and just like you I really hope to see them bring something completely new to the table. I know they want to keep some YG things happening in there but I've seen what they can do, I've heard their voices...and I need them to let them make a new image that will represent them as a new kpop group. I'm really hoping they let them shine, because they deserve it!

So proud of Asa for getting those song credits! A lot of ppl are complaining about it being what YG always does. I personally don't mind that it's YG style since YG is a brand and we don't go like "Hey Apple, why are you making Apple-like products again?" But my gripe is that I didn't feel like this song shows off their vocals enough when we know they are a group that can sing. I'm sure the album will show off more though. Looking forward to their first time going on a music show, whenever that will be, and looking forward to them interacting with other kpop artists by doing dance challenges. I'm sure they'll get their own youtube show too.

I love their debut! It was fire! If the people watched the last evaluation series then they will feel or think that there is something missing because 1. ahyeon isn’t there 2. There is no belting. But, on the second watch I really really liked it. It was strong! I don’t get the people commenting here that it is recycle or no changes. The sound should be YG! It makes sense to sound YG than to sound any other labels. Right?! If you are a casual stan of other groups then it will not be your style but hey you still watched it! Thanks! Also, SK charts is not important anymore. If you got a lot of haters on your own country then I will put efforts internationally. That is way smarter. I don’t hear or see blackpink to them, tbh. Also, don’t conpare BP debut to them. I think BP debut was before the scandal, so people in SK doesn’t have that much hate to YG. I think that’s the reason why BP debut was successful in SK before. I'm hoping they just went for the "familiar/yg sound" route in the first release, but they'll show a different side on the next release (I think I read in a yg article that this is going to be a series of digital singles) - I loved this song because as a vip, blackjack, ikonic, blink and teume, this was a sound and visual that felt "familiar" and maybe that was what they were going for. But having seen the evaluation series, I know these girls are capable of more. Like maybe a more Rnb/hip-hop song would have been great.

Clarification about Ahyeon. YG has said Ahyeon IS still in the group but due to health reasons is not participating in the debut right now. They are, in their words "sparing no effort" in aiding her recovery and she can rejoin once she feels better. There are all sorts of rumors floating around. I've seen ppl say botched cosmetic surgery or that she's going solo or that she's being hidden due to the n-word incident. But in this case, I do believe what YG said about health reasons is true because I saw with my own eyes way back in September someone had photographed Ahyeon outside the YG building and she had put on weight. Medicine for anxiety would be a likely reason for the sudden weight gain. More and more idols are having to take breaks for the same reason. Seeing from the show that Ahyeon is the type to put a lot of pressure on herself, I believe she may have gotten anxiety/fear about being in the public eye since she got so much backlash that time for the n-word controversy.
