hey, how do u handle when a child is having a panic attack or anxiety attack? or even you are having an attack?
@BabysitterBoss
@BabysitterBoss 4 жыл бұрын
As a babysitter, you must always stay in control of yourself which is the hardest part of taking care of children. You need to be patient and always use a pleasant, yet firm tone of voice when dealing with challenging behavior. Call your parent or a back-up adult for relief if you are losing control. If the child seems to be anxious, comfort the child with distractions such as a story in a book or a fun game. I hope this helps!

That’s a great tile to teach them deep breathing, it’s important to teach them that because they can use it in the future.
@sophieelizabeth2720
@sophieelizabeth2720 3 жыл бұрын
Try breathing with the child. If they refuse to try breathing try making them laugh and/or distract them. If this still doesn’t work try to find out what is wrong while you go over people you can call for help
@sophieelizabeth2720
@sophieelizabeth2720 3 жыл бұрын
Also if it is an older child who is stressed about school work try doing the work with them. Don’t do it for them but talk it through with them. If this is not working the child may need a break to take their mind away form the work for a minute. Maybe electronic time for 5 minutes or a board game, but be careful some children with definitely try to take advantage of this. While still keeping the child calm you need to set a boundary on how long the break is, but make sure they really are ready to try again
@sophieelizabeth2720
@sophieelizabeth2720 3 жыл бұрын
If you are the one panicking try distracting the child or children with something calm but entertaining this way you have time to sit down and breathe through the attack. If you can not distract the children try telling them that you need a break. I know it seems like you are dumping you r problem on the child but don’t worry. I have said this before and the children completely understood.

@BabysitterBoss

So the number one rule of babysitting is stay in control of yourself and stay in control of the kids your watching. Anxiety is real - I won't deny that. Preparation is often the key to reducing anxiety. Have you taken a babysitting safety class like Safe Sitter? If not, you need to. It will help you so much! You can find a class here: safesitter.org/find-a-class/

It is tough sometimes, but it’s mostly fun - in my opinion, the hardest parts of babysitting is trying to get them to settle down for bed, and when the kids always want treats and snacks 24/7 😂

psychotic_kitten 143 try making a bag you can refill and bring to each job. Talk to the parents about what is okay to bring for the child first. Usually a these items work great Stuffed animals Crayons Coloring pages/books Story books Board games Diaper/wipes (depending on the child’s age) Teethers (if you are dealing with a teething baby) Hair ties (for you,things can get messy) Extra clothes (just in case) And if you have an activity planned bring related toys/items

I also like to ask the kids if I don't know something, like where dishes go I find it more effective then just guessing, and the kids like being able to share their knowledge, they don't get to do it much because everyone just assumes that because they're little, they don't know

What do you do when a child wants to play the same game over and over again for hours and hours and you get bored of it and when you ask if we can take a break they yell at you NO!
@BabysitterBoss
@BabysitterBoss 4 жыл бұрын
Distract the child with another toy or game. The child is likely only saying no to stay in control. Distracting the child with a different toy or game will help the child transition to another activity.

Once I was watching my cousins, not necessarily babysitting them, but I was occupying them. I'm 12 and my cousins are 4 and 6-year-old girls. We were playing that I was the mom and they we're the kids. Now they were not supposed to be on their iPads in real-life or the game, which I didn't know, but I suspected and later found out that I suspected correctly. I was "busy" so they snuck away to play on their iPads. And they were actually playing on them, in case you had doubts. Then, not even 30 minutes later I was supposed to be "asleep" with the 4-year-old, while the 6-year-old was supposed to sneak away in the middle of the night to secretly snack on food. Lo and behold I find out that the 6-year-old was eating homemade icing out of the fridge. Moral of the story. Be VERY careful and VERY aware of what the kids your babysitting can and can't do (or eat), and make sure you know that they are not doing it (or eating it).

Kid i babysit (4 years old) has tones of energy and i often feel burned out. He wants participation 100% in all games which i understand and yells ("come and play with me ") when i have to prepare dinner or do something important. Images of babysitter just "watching" or calmly playing are funny for me!! I give all my attention to him ofcours but he wants me to do exactly what he is doing all the time(if he jumbs or dances yells JUMB! DANCE! at me and this could take hours ) How can i take little brake without him feel heartbroken? (Once i said no about tv and wouldn't talk to me told his mom he doesn't want me. She told me no tv because she needs screen time to get a rest when she comes home, so iam the bad guy ).

Your job is to enforce the rules and it is easier if the employer tells the children that you are in charge and they must cooperate before they leave. Tell the child there are consequences for breaking the rules and remind them your job is to enforce the rules. Call a back-up adult if the child refuses to follow the rules. Make sure you tell the employer about any behavior issues you had when they return home.

The best place to start is with a babysitting safety class like Safe Sitter. You can probably find some classes this Summer near you. Visit hops://Safe Sitter.org/find-a-class/ to find a class near you. In a babysitting safety class, you’ll learn all the skills you need to care for kids, keep yourself safe, and set your hourly fee. I think you’ll really like it!

Help her it doesn’t end there though.they were so hyper I could not sleep neither could my mom it would take for ever to tame them and The mom of the kids Literally Left us Her kids For a Month! That was the impossible But It ended very Bad Meaning my mom was not the Kids Mom’s friend anymore It leaded to bad scenarios that I can Say but my Mom after this She said “I’m Never babysitting Again”I’m with her it was so impossible to do my mom was friends with the other mom for 2 or 3 Years.

What if the parents actually **DO** always let the children do whatever they want whenever they want?... In short, how should one deal with spoiled narcissistic children? Also, back to one of my previous questions.... What if a child your babysitting straight up tells you that their parents use physical punishment more severe than a spanking, should you just immediately contact the authorities without informing the parents or tell them what you've been told by the child? But most serious of all, what if you're babysitting an older child and you discover that they're self-harming or express that they have suicidal thoughts but they say that they aren't actively planning to carry out the act?

Most babysitter preparation courses (like Safe Sitter) are for kids in grades 6-8. Age isn't what matters the most - it is your maturity and ability to take on the responsibility of babysitting. Talk to your parents and see if they think you're ready, (And take a class - it really helps! You can find one at safesitter.org/find-a-class/)

People who know you are more likely to trust you. You can even start with sibling if you have any. This way your parents will definitely trust you
