I used to babysit for a single mum who said I was welcome to bring a friend round, of either gender. If I had a boyfriend, I thought it would be unwise to invite him as he might expect to much. I also figured that having anyone else with me would mean sharing the money. I was 16 at the time.

4:35 I did something like this to my niece's rescue horse who hated being in her harness. When it was time to let the horses out of their paddock to graze I just put the harness on them first. There were two, and the other one was fine with harnesses, so I'd do that one first. It was a struggle the first few times, but no problems now. Not a big deal, but my niece thinks I'm a horse whisperer.

My first three baby sitting jobs in a row I was told specifically to watch out for people: First job was the Biomom who did not have custody but minor visitstion and could only pick up on certain days. Second job was the boyfriend's ex girlfriend who wasn't a danger to the child but might cause drama because she wanted to see said boyfriend (he did not live in thr home). Third job was grandparents who did not have rights and was not aloud any contact. I never had issues, but looking back it was a bit peculiar.

I babysit my youngest brother with special needs on occasion when my Grandma can't watch him (she watches him for my dad, and I cover for her when they both can't) and without fail, my grandma always manages to skim off $5 from what's normally owed. I charge $15 an hour since it's only for 2-4 hours each time and because he's got special needs. The amount of times my brother has said the creepiest shit while I'm watching him makes me reconsider just brushing off getting paid $5 less an hour

Wow! the recipe the mom needs the nilla wafers for must be for a really important event if she’s so desperate to beg the babysitter not to eat them! I wonder if the last babysitter ate the nilla wafers she needed for a previous recipe and it causesd her to get in trouble because she wasn’t able to make it!

Ah man... Why did op refuse the deer Chilli? Only had deer lasagna so far (boyfriend recently got his hunting license) and it is great. It's amazing how much minced meat one can get from a roe deer, which aren't that tall or meaty, only by tossing snippets that can't be used otherwise into the grinder. It's great to be able to use as much of the animal as possible this way.

The one and only time I was made to babysit my niece, my mother - whom for reasons I will not be getting into ha full custody of - said that she was going to the grocery store and would be back in an hour, at the most. I was 13 at the time and had no experience in taking care of a baby; I thought it would be fine, and I wouldn't need to do much other than giving her a bottle and watch cartoons to keep her occupied. Three hours later, my under-two niece has pooped her diaper, I had no service on my cell phone, we had no landlines because "We all have cellphones", and had to go to my next-door neighbor to get my niece changed and use her landline to finally get ahold of my mother, who was indignant about being contacted because "I'm at the salon!" I'm shocked my neighbor didn't call CPS on us, but my mom did finally come back 45 minutes later and berated me for not changing my niece. I yelled at her right back that she was a terrible mother who put a baby in the hands of an inexperienced child expecting nothing to go wrong, *and* lying about how long she was going to be gone. After that I refused to watch my niece alone again, even when my mother offered to pay me. She wonders why I don't talk to her much.

It's actually the "professional advice" of a certain child psychologist that to potty train a child, you should let them run around in nothing but a shirt so they'll find it easy to use the toilet. According to him, clean-ups are easy enough to do if they don't get to the toilet in time and "rugs are replaceable". I still think he's nuts.
