BAC Mono R x Pirelli - OEM Tyre Test with Steve Sutcliffe

Our highest speed tyre test to date - Steve Sutcliffe puts the BC Mono R through its paces on three sets of Pirelli Trofeo R tyres. The first is the original Trofeo compound and tread design, the other two are new compounds developed by Pirelli with the help of their motorsport guru, Stephen Rowe.
The winning tyre will be chosen as the OEM tyre for the BAC Mono R from production.

Did anyone notice that he was breathless while driving and talking? That’s how physical driving a really keyed in car like the Mono is. It’s the first car I’ve had where working on your physical fitness becomes part of your trackday prep. It gives you a (small) glimpse into the world of true performance car driving! 3:17

Steve, the Mono really benefits from the right tyres as you say. I switched to Pirelli slicks on some trackdays this year and the difference is night and day. (PS your original Autocar review pretty much sold the car to me!)

Thanks for this, very interesting. I really appreciate the input. I am looking forward to getting the new Trofeo on my R in the New Year. You are also responsible for me buying an Alpina D5 just after you did a test in January 2012. You were also one of the few journalists who appreciated the Alpine A110S which I also bought!
