The Netherlands Bach Society has completed many high quality recordings of old JS Bach. Very often the musical arrangements, period instruments and ensembles are selected to give the listener the experience of the attendances to Bach concerts. However, nobody can really know how those pieces sounded at that time. One valuable merit of the Bach Society is that future audiences will have these records and videos to know how Bach music sounded during our time.

Jesus took the Twelve with Him and said them: "Look! We are going to Jerusalem and all that was written by the prophets concerning the Son of Man will be fulfilled.". But they didn't understand any of this and didn't understand what He had said. My Jesus, take me with Thee, I'm ready, I want to leave from here to go to Jerusalem, the place of Thy Passion. Lucky if I can understand for my comfort the meaning of this moment of suffering and death! My Jesus, take me with Thee and I will run because the flesh and the blood, like Thy Disciples, understand with difficulty what Thou have said. Flesh and blood are drown to the world and large crowds. They both wanted to build a fortress on Mount Tabor, when Thou transfigured. On the contrary on Golgotha, the place of suffering, they don't want to cast even a glance. Ah, crucify in me, in my corrupted chest first of all this world and its forbidden pleasures, so I'll perfectly understand Thy words and I'll go to Jerusalem full of joy. My supreme all, my eternal good improves my heart, transforms my soul: overthrows all that resists the renunciation of the soul! When I am mortified in spirit, take me with Thee in peace! Mortify us with Thy goodness, lift us up with Thy grace; eredicate in us the old men so that the new man may live happily already here on Earth and that his feelings, his desires and his thoughts are turned to Thee

Was interested in this piece as it was listed in wolffs book as one of the pieces that Bach used as an audition piece for the Leipzig position. He was paid 20 talers to perform two cantatas....this was one of them. Since teleman and graupner did not take the job, the committee decided to take a “mediocre “ musician. Even when Bach performed this piece, graupner had already been offered the job. Not known if this piece was written in Weimar or cothen or both. Bach is a true miracle of music.

There's no end date known yet for the completion of Bach's cantatas. So far we have recorded just over a quarter of his cantatas. Since this is a time-consuming and expensive project to realise, we are also dependent of financial funding and gifts (read more on: allofbach.com/en/support-us/). But our intention is to finish this project!
