My energetic 7 year old grandson was recently put on drugs so he would sit still in school. I wish his parents and the school would have tried Bach first. The expression "Music soothes the savage beast." came from Bach's era.

I have heard anecdotal evidence that playing Bach can calm down school pupils. It sounds like we both have deep reservations about the use of drugs to deal with short attention spans. I know that in my case, my attention deficit was not caused by any kind of disorder, but by early childhood trauma. Reading books, writing, listening to music like that of Bach, avoiding drugs and alcohol, and avoiding most social media has helped me a great deal.

Why don't they play music like this when we're out eating in a restaurant or shopping? This music makes me feel calm, relaxed and alive. The music they play here in the US is loud, obnoxious, says nothing and makes me want to run out the door. So glad I found this to listen to today. Peace everyone.

Last year in late April, my elderly Cavalier King Charles Spaniel with cancer had a seizure and sharply declined over the couse of the following two weeks. During that time, he spent a lot of time on my lap listening to this music. I know it was soothing for us both and helped me so much when it was time for him to pass over the Rainbow Bridge. Listening now, almost a year later, this music brings me right back to those precious last moments with my little friend, my heart. Rest in peace, Charlie (10-4-08 to 5-10-23). I hope I see you again someday. Thank you for this magnificent music and all of its power.

Bach's music is so wonderfully soothing, and so beautiful. Years ago, when going through a divorce I could not sleep. My sister brought me all her Bach CDs, and I played them at night. Then he remarried and then he and his second wife, Anna-Magdalena, lost four more daughters and three sons. Eleven beloved children... Many researchers have wondered: how Bach managed to handle these losses? How did he not stop breathing, how did his heart not stop? And most importantly, how could he continue to write music?
