Lovely, Graham - love the Steve McCurry (or Steve McCurry-type) picture, too!

Thanks, Lyndon. I thought you might like this, can't help thinking this would sound really good on the organ.

Thanks for this upload, Graham. I enjoyed all of it, but must single out that characteristically delicious melody line patch - and the detailed sculpting of the piece. It makes such a difference when a synthesist embraces the fact that there are good things the synthesizer can do which would be impossible to replicate on any conventional keyboard! Thanks again.

Thanks so, much for your articulate response, Karl. Yes, the synth can manipulate sound colour so easily expanding the expressive range out of all recognition compared to an acoustic instrument. Interestingly though I could imagine this piece sounding good with an acapela choir. Anyway, it feels like an organ piece in all but name to me.

'Anyway, it feels like an organ piece in all but name to me.' How odd, Graham, the very same thought occurred to me.

Beautiful music. And interesting interpretation of Virgin Mary on the picture.

This is a fantastic prelude, the first one I ever learned to play from the WTH - beautifully done. I have my own version in the works since May 2022 (ugh). I've listened just now to my work in progress, and it's completely the opposite of yours: all staccato notes and fast tempo. I think you got the perfect angle :)

Thanks soooo much, OrzoMondo. Yes, an amazing piece and surely one of the best and profoundest from the both books. Not the first for me but been playing it since late 70's or so and still not sure of the tempo! I've never heard a performance that gets it definitively right but Gould is good and for me Richter comes closest even if a bit too reverential in places. Anyway, there's no reason why fast and staccato couldn't work really well in your hands, Let's hear it.

Thanks, but to my ears that would place it too forward and bring it out of its searching higher dimension.

@@grahamcaldecott fair. I actually think it’s perfect, since I’m familiar with the piece. I was just looking for a version I could use to introduce a friend to this piece, and wanted to use this one except was worried they wouldn’t be able to appreciate that great walking bass :)

@@xavi2803 find a system to play it on with nice bass EQ. if stuck with just a phone or laptop, good ear buds , some with great bass response. /////

I suspect Bach himself would approve because of the clarity of the voicing. Fugue, please.
