Rübsam's "cantabile" approach to Bach is wonderful - I could listen to him all day. Perhaps easier to appreciate in his recordings of the French Suites and Goldberg Variations than in the relatively tightly disciplined form of the fugue, it's still always a delight to hear. Thank you

I'm a muslim and although Bach's music has strong hints of Christian beliefs but it still makes me tear up everytime i listen to it, whatever is your religion philosophy you can surely feel something here something so spiritual, also the instrument is so raw and chromatic i absolutely love it

Hard to find something specifically Christian in WTC... but yes, it elevates our feelings a lot. Maybe its the perfection and beauty of poetic contrapunctus... I dont know, but if youre religious of any kind, this music is inspirational.

I love the warm recorded sound of this lute-harpsichord but the “extra” notes and “cantabile” style are more interesting than inspirational. That said, I’m glad BC chose to post these idiosyncratic and highly musical interpretations. 1:30:27 TBH, I think Thomas Schwan’s recent live recordings of WTC bk. Upon further listening, reflection and some piano improvisation I think my earlier comment about this interpretation being more interesting than inspirational was perhaps too harsh. Wolfgang brings us an exceptional insight into Bach’s creativity and work environment. I’m left wondering how much Bach tuned, repaired, performed and composed on the lute-harpsichord and other clavier he had access to.

Absolutely. This playing style sheds a new light on some of the pieces, not quite on others. It takes the momentum and intensity out of them in several cases.
