Did you know that Paul is an award-winning painter and graduate of the Royal Academy of Arts? And he plays the piano well. Like really really well. But he didn't want to be a concert pianist and dedicated his life to painting, teaching piano and making these You Tube videos. And we are the better for his generosity. Merici, Paul and Khwan. I'm wishing you a long and healthy life. BTW if anyone is playing with pain, they might want to start using my exercises for the low back, as well as how to take care of your shoulders and hands. For the back, it requires 30 seconds a day, or 60 seconds if you have the time. Oh My Aching Bach.

This man is incredibly gifted. I've seen some of his paintings on the web and are really good but I think he is a better piano player.
sweet, but garret - having done keys... you got something more to say, am i wrong?!

Interesting that 18 is indead Gis minor (5 sharps) rather than As minor (7 flats). 3 on the other hand is Cis major (7 sharps) rather than Des major (5 flats).

Such a huge fan of this channel -- what a public service!!
I love watching your hands and following the score. I don't play, and I read music sparingly. This is such fun. And like magic, turning black notes into music. Especially I like the Bach WTC series. His genius shines forth!

Best performance and tutorial of one of the most famous master works by J.S.Bach, his WELL TEMPERED CLAVIER, thanks to Paul Barton.... Just simply SUPERB AND EXCELLENT.

I love being able to watch as the piece is played. I feel like even I may be able to play. Actually, as a guitar player, I've always admire those who play keyboards, even the organ throwing in those foot tapped bass notes. The tremendousness is off the charts!

Wow. I know the WTC for ages and today I first recognised that the b minor fugue subject covers the whole chromatic scale. So it really is a very special culmination of this work. And a bit foreshadowing Schönberg‘s dodecaphony. How can one man (J. S. Bach) be such an influential genius, a cornerstone and pillar for a couple hundred years?!?

The F minor fugue does the same, though only with the counter subject

I love Bach and I know that these are written for harpsichord, but there is something about the sound on the piano that makes me feel joyous.
@DangerRussDayZ65334 жыл бұрын
They were written for the Clavier, which is technically any keyboard instrument. I'm sure Bach would have enjoyed to play them on the piano had they existed in his time.
@evanmisejka40624 жыл бұрын
@@DangerRussDayZ6533 the German word for keyboard is Klavier, but in the time of Bach they referred the Harpsichord to Klavier. And I think you are confusing the word with a clavichord which it is physically impossible to play these on because it had such a small range. But yes I think Bach would enjoy this.
@paqman674 жыл бұрын
@@DangerRussDayZ6533 The piano did exist in Bach's time(The piano was invented by Bartolomeo Cristofori (1655-1731) of Italy.) ...his friend/godfather to his eldest son and famous organ maker Gottfried Silbermann built pianos in the 1740s..Bach basically being the brutally honest person that he was, basically called the:weak in power when compared to the modern harpsichord(which in Bach lingo meant they were crap!) That is why Silbermann never letBach test one of his organs..Bach would've brutalized him due to some limitations of his organs and "unfriednly" tuning when Bach played his pieces on them.

This is a tiny observation -- and in no way undercuts Mr. Barton's wonderful contribution here -- but I'm puzzled by something. In Prelude 24, at bar 3, the alto line moves G, F#, E. Mr. Barton's fingers appear to do exactly that ( 47:24 ) -- but we hear an E# instead. It happens at the repeat as well ( 48:21 ). Can anyone explain the discrepancy between fingers and audio? There are other wrong notes here and there, of course, as would happen with anyone ( 50:36 , for example) -- but there the fingers and sound are aligned. The earlier moment in bar 3 is a mystery to me!

I was looking closely to figure out your fingering for measure 46 in the 21st fugue (36:45) and i noticed you omit the passing Ds and jump between the Cs and Es using your right hand instead. I never would of noticed if i haven't slowed down the video to see that. is it recommended to omit notes in parts that may sound too busy for bach fugues?
