After watching it few times, I think that cycles visually compliment the preludes, because Bach's monothematic style. I know that they are an illusion, but rhythmically these quasi-cycles are convincing, because the composer clearly worked within bounds of a strict meter. I think this visualization works because it keeps a spatial span that almost always correlate to divisions of time (that is, one can always see and hear the "measures"), whilst it doesn't lock pitches in a pattern that would obstruct the flow of harmony/contour. I wonder whether this visualization could work in truly repetitive pieces, or conversely, music with changing meters?

That would be an interesting experiment. I'll try when I have a chance.
