Despite the rather dismissive description by the Bach Society, I can't get enough of this piece and this performance. To me it's neither plodding nor sluggish; I find it so beautiful as to be almost physically painful. Tastes will differ :)

What is the purpose of those metal "handles" on the sides of the keyboards?
@matts.37613 жыл бұрын
They could be couplers. When one pulls the manual forward, it engages mechanical linkages between the the two manuals, so as the player plays the bottom manual, the keys on the next manual are also pulled down, thus allowing the stops from both manuals to be played from a single manual.

Nogal kwalijk dus.
@grahaml34493 жыл бұрын
I'm sorry for my inability to speak Dutch, so had to rely on Google to translate. However, I was going to comment just the opposite: the use of the tremulant to me brought this performance from just good, up to sublime!. In looking at the organ specs online it seems the tremulant applies to all the manuals here rather than being selectable. In any case, a lovely slow baroque tremulant is the height of the organ's mystique, to me!
@martinvanheusden98323 жыл бұрын
@@grahaml3449 on the one hand there is the principle or the idea of, as in this case, the 'affective' use of the tremulant; on the other hand there is the resounding result of a registration choice which I do not appreciate positively in this case. Simply put: it sounds ugly. Or, á la Johann Mattheson, imperfectly. C'est-ca. I blame the artistic direction of the Netherlands Bach Society for bringing out this failed production. What an incompetence! It's A Shame!!
