This Pastorella in F major - recorded here for All of Bach with Reitze Smits - refers to Italy, to ‘sheperds’ music and with that to Christmas. But it also has parts separate from these themes. A work that is hard to place in one corner: a bit of Italy, a bit of France and a good dash of Christmas.

I am pleased that you have uploaded the Pastorella BWV 590. It's beautifully played. However, I cannot agree with one detail of your description on your website: "...In any case, none of the following sections contain references to Christmas..." Of course the 4th movement is an artful fugue based on the old Christmas carol "Resonet in laudibus".
