Sato. The master of the baroque violin. Viewers should be aware that the violin in baroque disposition is a very different instrument from the modern violin; it requires an entirely different technique. Instrumentalists have gradually improved their abilities on the baroque violin since the 1940s.

Musicians are chosen and gifted by the Divine, our Mahashakti, before their birth with s special intuition key to enter her hidden world of music and what they hear there to put into notes for us. Music has got the only function to let us feel ecstasy , eine Glückseeligkeit which no word can ever express. Just observe how Indians go into their concerts and sit there for hours and come out in complete happiness. How come ? For us this kind of classical Indian music is beyond any understanding . That composers copied their music was once mentioned by late August Everding who mentioned that Mozart must have had copied most of his music from heaven because no human being is able to bring heavenly beautiful music from himself to us.
@CBerryman579 ай бұрын
There are a lot of words of praise here, and rightly so. But the question is, why are these performances so good? Your comment of sometimes aggressive, sometimes delicate, touches on one aspect: dynamism, which I find wonderful in this performance. Without being heavy-handed, the dynamic range is handled beautifully, bringing out the details of the composition. I also like how the soloist is not always in the forefront, but the focus is on the ensemble at appropriate times. I especially like Sato’s sometimes forceful and flowing, playing and sometimes light and staccato touch. And Such a full sound from so few musicians! Credit to the recording quality here. There are so many aspects to the sublimity of this ensemble in this recording. Like so many others, I am very grateful for the privilege of hearing the NBS.
@josephhargrove4319 Жыл бұрын
I've never understood why so many commentators have branded the Concerto in E as somehow "lesser" than the concerti in a and d. The opening movement is intellectually brilliant and covers quite an emotional range. With the Andante, Bach gives us a movement so affecting it makes the very stones weep. And here it is most admirably performed by Shunske Sato. If "leave them wanting more" was Bach's goal with his three violin concerti, he succeeded. richard -- "Compared to Bach, we all suck." - Pat Metheney

Italian string concertos were all the rage throughout Germany in the early 18th c. All German composers of Bach's time were influenced by the Italian string concerto. And Bach's keyboard arrangements of string concertos by Vivaldi (and other Italians) were commissioned works, not homages to Vivaldi. At the time Bach composed these arrangements, keyboard arrangements of Italian string concertos were popular, and Bach was far from the only composer to make such arrangements. E.g., Bach's cousin in Weimar, J. Walther, was also composing keyboard arrangements of Italian string concertos around the same time as Bach.

A stunning performance of this powerful and beautiful concerto. The slightly gentler pace in the first movement really lets it bowl along. This movement reminds me of a phrase I saw in a victorian scientific paper; "A cubic mile of sunshine." In the awe-inspiring slow movement, also at the end of the E major interlude mentioned below, the point (10:45) where the ground returns is just unbearable. Fate knocking at the door (I know that belongs somewhere else!) I've loved this concerto all my life. Will it ever be understood, how Bach did what he did.
