How privileged we are to be able to return to this channel frequently and be restored by these wonderful musicians performing Bach!

Pierre Hantaï is the perfect exemple of baroque music player who masters this style of music and gives us the sensation to go back in time.
@mikekeyes6102 Жыл бұрын
That may be true, however, the music, paradoxically, points to something that is timeless.

My god, that Sarabande is absolutely remarkable. Probably my favorite movement of the whole piece.

Incredible! But it's so sad that the audience lacks young faces. I'm 17 years old and I love Bach and sometimes I'm very afraid, that my taste of music is dying out.

GET USED TO IT. ALL CLASSICAL CONCERTS ARE ATTENDED BY KIDS TO YOUNG TOO YOUNG TO KNOW ANY BETTER. THOSE WHO ENJOY, LET THEM BE ENRICHED, YOU CAN LEAD A HORSE WATER BUT YOU CAN´T MAKE HIM SWIM, RIGHT?
@jacobusbinnema30962 жыл бұрын
Don’t worry. Bach’s music is so strong. It will be there for you.
@EightBallAnswers12 жыл бұрын
Bach is being performed how many years later? Don't "fret" ...also I saw at least one girl probably under 25 in the crowd. Who do you imagine is filling the music schools now? Not old people.
@hugoclarke32842 жыл бұрын
You're wrong. Bach is more popular than ever. What isn't as popular is attending live concerts.
@tomarmstrong12812 жыл бұрын
Fear not, the music of Bach will be played and will move hearts and minds throughout the rest of history. Long after the current popular fad, be whatever it is, has been long forgotten.

Bach es el gran compositor para el teclado y Hantaï es siempre garantía de musicalidad : frente a otros que quieren firmar cada nota, con él tenemos la sensación de que es un medium del gran Sebastian. Gracias mil.

The playing is amazing, top notch, and the harpsichord sounds unusually good. Nice mid range, not to steely.

Great ornaments!!! I am a Gould fanatic but I am beginning to really appreciate other performers. I still prefer Gould's more rhythmic approach but this is excellent.
@AkiraBergman2 жыл бұрын
The piano is more percussive of course, but I prefer harpsichord with Baroque and Bach, since it is more harmonic and precise.
@alexandrusimo8992 жыл бұрын
@@AkiraBergman he said rhythmic, not percussive. also you might mean harmonically rich, but i do wonder what you mean by precise...
@AkiraBergman2 жыл бұрын
@@alexandrusimo899 one can use percussivity as well as timing for a more rhythmic interpretation. By precise I mean the immediacy of sound in harpsichord when you press a key. As you know there is a slight delay in piano due to the hammering mechanism. There is also a delay in harpsichord but much smaller. One result is that trills and ornaments come out better on harpsichord. I don't only mean harmonically rich. I also mean that the pulled note (as opposed to the hammered) is sharper and better defined when mixed with other notes in chords.
@corner5592 жыл бұрын
Gould doesn't play on a harpsichord so that's a big minus against him in my book.
@purpurina56632 жыл бұрын
I am (was?) also a fan of Gould -it was the Bach my ear was used to, and I liked his spartan cleanness. I also had a really hard time listening to the polyphony of harpsichord. However, that same cleanness turned the pieces too dry sometimes (eg Goldberg var.15 onwards). I started to appreciate certain “looser” piano interpreters, like Schiff (nothing so far off as Barenboim), and, thanks to NBS, gave a new try to harpsichord. After hearing and marveling at Jean Rondeau’s Goldbergs, I am a convert. Now I go back to Gould if that’s what I want to hear; it’s a different experience and it can coexist with the harpsichord -but this richness is unparalleled.
