Wonderful performance of one of the greatest compositions the world has ever known. Bach, who was superior to any of the other composers known to mankind. I thank GOD that no one ever tried to say he didn’t write his compositions. The words that have been used to describe Bach in a positive way cannot be made negative. A genius if there ever was a genius. I’m trying to load this commentary with the most positive sentiments possible. Bach wrote beautiful melodies and added counterpoint to enhance this beauty. This is my clumsy and awkward tribute to him and his life. When l was studying music theory based on the chorales and other compositions l had NO idea

How wonderful is ‘Gott hat alles wohlgemacht’! The organ part was so colourfully and expressively articulated that I could barely believe it wasn’t a solo woodwind instrumentalist - so convincing was the illusion of dynamics and accents (as well as the beautiful stop that was chosen). Spirit and soul are confused when they contemplate Thee, my God, since the miracles they learn and which people proclaim exultantly have made them deaf and dumb. I am amazed; everything we see fills us with amazement. Contemplating Thee, beloved Son of God, they fail reason and common sense. Thou even succeed to make a miracle a little thing in front of Thee. Thou art already a miracle event for Thy name, Thy acts and Thy mission, no wonder on earth compares to Thee. Restore hearing to the deaf make the dumb talk, yes, even more, open the eyelids of the blind with a word. These, these are miracles whose power cannot not even be expressed by the choir of angels. God has done everything well. His love, His fidelity they are renewed for us every day. When anguish and pain oppress us He grants us abundant comfort, for He is always watching over us. God has done everything well. Ah, mighty God, let me always remind me of all these things, so I can with joy let Thee penetrate my soul. Make Thy sweet "Ephphatha" soften my hardened heart; ah, place Thy merciful fingers on my ears, otherwise I would already be lost. Touch my tongue too with Thy mighty hand, so I can praise these miraculous signs with deep devotion proving to be Thy son and heir. I just wish to live with God, ah! if only the time had already come to raise a joyful Hallelujah with all the angels. My dear Jesus, deliver me from the painful game of suffering and allow me to finish soon my tormented life in Thy hands.

But, in general, yes, the paradox of intellectual and cultural achievement and barbarism is exemplified there! Correct. And besides a video connection, the organist also has an audio connection (via the mics - which are recording anyway - and a monitor speaker next to the organist) which allows him to hear the important instruments. Otherwise it would be very difficult to sync between organ and orchestra/choir from such a distance.

Grazie a Dio, grazie a questi suoi ministri...!

What I love most about Jos van Veldhoven the conductor and Van Doeselaar the organist is that they are grooving so well together. To me, rhythmical groove is often a crucial aspect to enjoy Bach, and it's actually rare to find a performance like this. That is of course mostly conductor's responsibility, but you need an organist who has a good sense of rhythm too, not just for keeping steady tempo but grooving. And this organist has one. You can hear he is producing the beat himself not just following or catching up others. It's anyway hard to synchronize with orchestra I assume, so you can hear a bit of separation in some parts, but he controls very well. So uplifting and enjoyable. I also love how string players dance with joy.

Gracias!!

*What a joy and delight. Un grand merci à tous!* I believe this is the only Bach cantata that features an organ obligato part in every movement except recitatives. (Please correct me if I'm wrong.) It's very unusual - and wonderful - to hear a *Reed stop* (Rankett? Krummhorn?) used in the second aria organ part (15:12). Most organists I've heard just use an 8' (4') 2' (Zimbel) combination. Also worth mentioning: One certainly *doesn't* need to be a believer in God - as in Maarten Engeltjes' case here - in order to create "divine" music. 👍 Again, many, many thanks to all - *Beautifully performed.* 💖🎶
