I started dancing with a bunch of beginner partners. I find it more practical to teach and train myself with the foot changes rather than practicing each one of them the lady foot changes. In this way we progress thru the fun routines that includes the hand combs etc. My main takeaway with the lady half turn is the stop using the block on the hip. Thank you.

Hi, Always like to watch you two :) I have a question - I don't sure I understand the difference, and how the lady should distinguish between these: - When the man lift her arm, just for the styling or for the in&out position - When the man lift her arm to enter the shadow position (Lift the arm and turn the girl) Appreciate your help :)

Hello. Thank you for the appreciation. The difference is easy to "explain" but hard to understand because it is based on what you feel. When the arm is lifted to enter the shadow position, the girl will feel a signal, a pressure to say so, leading her into that turn (that is the leader's job, to make her understand what he wants) When the arm is lifted just for styling, to say so, after the initial signal for the "lift", the leaders doesn't intervene anymore. And so the follower is free to do what she wants :D Hope this helps. Again, it's a difference "created" by the signals of the leader :D

Rewatching this in 2021, technique 4 looks so cool! Do you think it’s the easiest to use in a social dance with a beginner follower?

Thank you. For a beginner follower, I think the best way to get her into the shadow position is with the In & Out and turn her by the shoulder and then block her when she has her back towards you. Hope this helps.

Hi M&E, I was curious why the double turn is needed to exit from shadow. Is it possible with a single turn, or is there something that prevents it physically?

If you do a simple turn, it's more complicated to exit because you need to do a mambo, and your follower must also change steps. WIth a double turn, you can do your basic, while she does a double turn and it's more natural to exit on the "correct" count :P Of course you can do a single turn, no problem, but you need to take into account how you go back on 1.

Man's Steps for going to the shadow position with flick hand seems weird. It includes three steps instead of four steps. 🤔

It depends on which direction you want to go. I prefer to do it like that to focus more on the proper connection and to go on the leader's steps.
