That’s her family stance… it works for them. When you have money and family support (village) you can make those types of decisions easily.
@Happytown75232 жыл бұрын
@@knightingg8324 nope. It’s really not about money. My grandmother raised her children on nothing… breastfed, cloth diapered, and lived on a frugal budget in a mobile home. Sure, not every child had their own room in a suburban McMansion, but it didn’t matter. When people love their families enough, they will make sacrifices for them. It’s called unconditional love. It’s really NOT a difficult ‘decision’ to be made. Anything else is falls within conditional love and is cold hearted.

As someone who has a sibling with significant disabilities, this is not all great and wonderful. My parents were selfish because now they are gone and my life is to be a full time caregiver. I'm all alone, stressed, and my life is no longer mine. I didn't choose this but I'm stuck with it. I love my sister but the government does not help me enough. You guys all think this is great but it's really not. I didn't ask for this. Why did I have to lose my life so a high needs child could live? Who will take care of this child when the parents die? Is nice they have 5 siblings, I don't have any one to help me....

I can relate to this so much. My daughter was born 35 yrs ago with Klippel/Fiels syndrome after I had 2 healthy children. I felt exactly the same way. I had cuddles for an hour & she had to be whisked away to the Children's Hospital almost 2 hrs away. They wouldn't let me go until the next day & all I wanted to do was hold her & breast feed her. When I got to her the next day I will never forget the relief & love I felt to do just that. Two brain surgeries by the time she was 6 wks old, physiotherapy, speech therapy & heart surgery up until her teens but she's full of life despite some limitations. I don't know what I'd do without her. I went on to have 4 more children. Being a part of a big family benefited her greatly. She has brought so much joy, love & lessons in life along with all the challenges. Love conquers all❤

I can totally relate to so much of her story! We found out at birth that our fourth child had DS and a heart defect (for which she needed surgery at 4 months). Such an emotional roller coaster at the beginning because, yes, it’s all so different and new and unexpected. But we also had so much love and support for her and for our family. I am so thankful for all of that. And we’re still all growing and learning together, and absolutely loving our 5 year old Annabelle Faith. ❤❤❤

This is literally why we have such extensive prenatal testing. So if she decided to reject all the testing we have and have this child, then it was just that. A choice.

So glad she didn’t do the genetic test. I don’t know her doc but the specialist we were sent to actually mentioned termination of the pregnancy due to some fluid on the back of the neck could indicate a abnormalities. I was blessed thinking about being a mothers to a special needs child. Its been challenging to have a child w epilepsy and intellectual disability! Now he is 15 and working hard learning construction with his dad!

@gymnasticsgirlie06472 жыл бұрын
Grieving is completely normal in this situation. A life with Down Syndrome isn't worse than a normal life, but it is different, and it's not what you expect for your child. It makes sense that you need to grieve the loss of the life you thought your child would have. Only once you process those emotions, which it seems that this mom has, can you truly embrace the life your child WAS given. Plus, Down Syndrome does come with certain actually sad challenges. It can cause physical health issues such as heart issues, bone issues, increased susceptibility to leukemia, etc. It obviously increases the possibility that the child will be affected by ableism and inaccessibility, which can also cause mental health issues. And by "you get what you get", again I don't think she is saying that children with disabilities are bad or defected or not as good as able-bodied children. She was actually saying that she would accept her child any way they came. She just might have worded it a little weird as "you get what you get" is an expression normally used to help kids tolerate not getting what they want.
