Good to see your keeping them in good condition SMT!

Awesome video, Scrumptious! I got a Bachmann F unit yesterday from my grandparents and it actually has the exact clicking noise that you talked about here. I took the shell off and it is a pancake motor.

That's a nice Amtrak locomotive, Harrison, and the price was right. Definately have to figure out that noise. What about the other non-powered truck, maybe put a little oil on those wheel sets as well. Squeaky wheel gets the oil. Also, let her run around the track a bit for a shakedown, maybe the squeal will work itself out. Make sure viewers know not to overtighten the screws, plastic threads strip easily. And too much torque it not good for the motor parts, that could cause binding, and cracked gears as well. Thanks for sharing. 👍 👍 👍

I bought one of those at Allentown. The axle gears were cracked and the brushes fell apart when I opened it. Good thing I had another Bachman to use for parts. It runs good, but is noisy. Nice train SMT.

Very interesting locomotive Harrison! I hope you get passenger cars with it someday and I agree don't put grease on the comitator itll create a smoke show on these ringpole motor engines and smoking is for steam engines.

Those Pancake style motors seem very simple to maintain. I thought they were impossible to fix. Wow, what a way to learn new things. Does that version need traction tires?

That horn is heinous. Other than that it’s not half bad. I’d definitely go with a Rapido one. You should do a full overhaul of one of these and put a all new engine and drive in it. Would be a lot of work but it would be really cool!

A guy at my local hobby shop said to put slotcar magnets in the pancake motors to get slow from them.
@dbtech79144 жыл бұрын
I tried that (Red Dragon T-Jet magnets for Aurora Thunderjet slot cars). It didn't make it any faster but did make it more reliable and responsive.
@SMTMainline4 жыл бұрын
That might work since it might make the magnets stronger, apparently stronger magnets create more torque and less speed but in my experience they just do both.

In your honest opinion, who makes the better locomotives for an HO scale layout?
@Rafe09214 жыл бұрын
SMT how do you get the shells off the bachmann locomotives?
@dbtech79144 жыл бұрын
Carefully! I use a pocket knife to get one side loose and maybe stick a toothpick or small screw drive in to hold it while I jimmy the other side. Some larger engines have more than one clip on each side.
@mercuryoak24 жыл бұрын
I havcab yo ne that exact locomotive but it is from life like. I'm thinking of giving to my brother I already have a box with a f7 diesel that's from bachmann with a gondola and 3 bay coal hopper and caboose. Just to start him off with something. The bachmann is new so it has a can motor the life-like one has that same motor if not similar to the one you have.
