4:48 you're absolutely correct that it WAS the loco 08173 that had mismatched numerals applied. I had the model myself and I think I still possess it. I wouldn't be too concerned about the alignment being out if it was mine. In fact, the marking around it looks authentic, because it looks as if someone like the driver, has left the locomotive filthy, but just given the numbers a wipe. I've got 3x Bachmann 37s and they're absolutely amazing things. I have two "split codes" (green and blue) plus the blue 37251 centre code. So much nicer than Hornby ones I have found to be lacking. I have a wealth of grey/blue Intercity coaches and plenty of foods, so the 37s cover both quite nicely. Second hand is definitely the way forward, knowing new ones are now costing what a DCC Sound fitted model used to 15yrs ago

This has to be one of your best reviews. An important loco in the BR roster. The 37s were seen all over the country on virtually any kind of train,the exception to this was unloading of ballast from hopper wagons like Sealions, this was due to how power from the generator went to the traction motors. This could cause the loco to setup a snatch effect on the ballast wagons that could cause a potential injury to any staff on the rear wagon. Certainly on the Eastern region they were not used on ballast trains for this reason. The class 31 locos being the preferred type.

Great loco, I’ve got this exact model although in with its original number. Always a great runner with very little maintenance. I believe 37116 is currently operating with colas.

Now that's a proper loco :-) I currently have four Bachmann Class 37s. They are nice models. The nose vents do get dirty. They horde grime. Also depending on version the nose vents are different. Yours are correct for a split headcode 37. I suspect the glued buffers are because on at least one of my class 37s one of the buffers has a habit of popping out completely.

Super review Jenny. Nice Loco. I have the green one. Look carefully at the part of the chassis immediately above the bogies. On subsequent models, what would be the sole bar, is very thin plastic and susceptible to cracking. (I had to return two models to the retailer). This was, apparently, brought to Bachmanns’ attention. Also, the pick-up arrangement from the bogie is likely to be a sprung brass rubbing ‘nub’ on the top of the mounting where it meets the internal connection from the circuit board. This is prone to malfunction. On the Class 40 I have, I made four flexible wire links and soldered them from the pickups to the circuit board. (From thin Kynar wire wrapped tightly round a needle before soldering (needle removed!). This gives a flexible link, much the same idea as flexible air hoses on articulated HGVs. Good to hear your review. Very interesting. Cheers, Bob

I don't do diseasals, but the class 37 has a little place in my heart, that sad looking face and yet a hint of ET? And believe it or not I have never seen one in the flesh! Keep up the good work :)

Nice model, Jenny, I'm not a big fan of anything post-grouping, but it really is a good model of an impressive loco. Cheers, Ken.

The coupling pockets are also used for the ploughs.

Jenny, is this number from another version (ie not the A version)? As you say, a very nicely done renumbering. Nice loco, nice unboxing.

To be honest, I don't know though it looks to have been renumbered.

@@JenniferEKirk = Jenny & Tom - I'm rather late getting to this video, but.... I have "the other version" = same catalogue number, but with a 'B' in the nomenclature It's "32-781-B" (instead of 32-681-A, which you have here) My "32-781-B" was bought brand new, upon immediate release & is still "Mint in Box" The serial number (running number), is "37-041" - (instead of "37-034" as yours should be) Your loco has definitely been re-numbered by it's previous owner, OR, vendor (Kernow or Olivia's ?) Also worth noting that my "Mint owned from New" & unmolested "32-781-B" is ENTIRELY BLUE ALL OVER, as in..... "I'm BLUE dab a dee" like the famous No.1 "Eifel.65" single from the year1999 (laughs !) Meantime, it seems that yours (originally) came with TWO sections of "Satin Panzer Grey" roof panel sections & either the previous owner (or original vendor), has had it's roof entirely sprayed w/"Panzer Grey" I did toy with the idea of spraying the roof of my "32-781-B" with Black, just to break-up the outline & to save it from looking FAR less bland, with it's seemingly over-saturated "Blueness !" But then, it devalues the model to those who 'know' the model range & how it came, originally The hit song by "Eifel.65" is a very good anaolgy tho', on "781-B" ("too much blue" for my liking)

The earlier releases were criticised for the shape of the nose and cab, so later ones were retooled along with the chassis upgrade. The original drive system would have been a1a-a1a. Actually better if you want to convert to em or p4 as all wheel drive can cause problems for that, especially true of their class 66s. A nice model, I expect someone will be announcing a new version of it or the 47 soon enough, rapidio are releasing a new diesel locomotive to the British market for their own entry rather than commission models and there are rumours it could be one of a number of types including the 37, 47, 31 and a few others.

Another excellent model, and right up my socialist, BR blue, street. On a note of absolute pedantry, there were no overhead wires on the East Coast Main Line in the 1970s. You are forgiven. 😉
@tulyar10436 жыл бұрын
Oh yes there were. Kings Cross to Hitchin was done in the mid 1970's. The line from Hitchin to Royston was done at the same time. This was done as the first stage electrification to Cambridge.
