Oh man...! Thanks so, so much for posting this video! I'm in my mid-50s, and nowhere near as flexible as I used to be. I just made my last child support payment, and went out an bought the DR650 I've wanted for years, but getting on and off it was an embarrassing nightmare. This is so easy! Thanks again Man... God Bless!!!

Thanks for this video. I bought a Africa Twin, last week. I'm 66 now, and its been a nightmare to get on and off. But after watching your video and 10mins practice, my life is 100% easier.

Excellent explanation, my bike choice was being determined by not using your method and attempting to throw a leg over from the ground, I now feel (at 66) more confident to proceed back to the bike I like best. Cheers.

@@MotocycleSafety Hi, yes torn between two bikes (after just retiring from work) considering either a new Moto Guzzi Mandello or a Kawasaki RS900 SE. I see the Guzzi as unique but possibly beset with minor manufacturing issues while the RS900 SE looks good and would be probably be a reliable bullet proof ride. I'm test riding both prior to selection. Cheers

I'm so glad that I found this video. I'm an Italian rider (actually owning a new BMW R 1250 GS) and before getting this new bike, I owned a fantastic KTM Superduke. I always got some fear of mounting on these tall-monsters-bike, but now thanks to you, I'm not afraid anymore and I enjoy my new bike. Subscribed and leaved a like!

Great clear instructions, just returning to biking (now 60 and with a little free money) struggled getting my leg over and felt a little stupid and old, tried this method and I’m now almost 20 again.

I can't thank you enough for this video!! It was so clear and will undoubtedly help me enjoy my "new" 2011 Yamaha TTR250 I just bought. I haven't owned a bike in nearly forty years and I'm 56 so the joints don't move like they used to. When I climbed on my TTR I did it by using my left foot on the ground. The result was me looking like I was delivery a turning kick to the head of someone standing on the other side of the bike. It wasn't a great feeling, and I'm sure it would have looked even worse to someone watching on. Your clear instructions will allow me to enjoy my bike a whole lot more. There's so much out there on KZbin about everything else to do with motorbikes, and not much about getting on an off the taller bikes. I've liked and subscribed and can't wait to learn more from you. Thank you SO much from this grateful Aussie.

Thank you very much for the tips. Indeed reaching the age of 56 I am not that nimble as I used to be. I will start applying "opening the door" it is so logical even wondering why I did not think about this before. I already put my left foot on the bike to swing my leg with some level of decency but I will at the opening of the door and lean bit more across the tank. Again great tips.

That is the way I have had to mount my Gold Wing for years now. Pushing 70. I also have to clear a trunk and a Kureyakin back rest, so I really have to crank the leg behind my back in order to clear it.

Nice one mate. I’m not as bendy as I was 45 years ago, and it’s not the luggage on my Africa Twin that ,my leg hits......... it’s the seat 😩😊😉. The AT has a fair old lean on it when on the side stand, so I’m going to try mounting from the right, to take some pressure off the side stand, especially on softer surfaces. Nice video mate 👍

4:20 I used to mount bikes this way, until the stand broke. Especially if there is a weld on the mount, they're horrible about breaking. I've broken 2 this way.

Would have liked to see you demonstrate (using a side-view) how to mount when one has a top bag on the pillion of a sport bike, like my 2018 Kawasaki Ninja 400 KRT edition. Even without a top bag, my boot hits the passenger seat, and that's while using the foot peg to gain a couple of inches. Liked and subbed.
@MotocycleSafety
@MotocycleSafety 3 жыл бұрын
Just before you mount, drop to a crouch position to ensure the pants are not holding you back or restraining your knee from bending. Don't swing a straight leg over, bend the knee and allow the bent leg to run over the seat when mounting. Perhaps I'll do another video as suggested... Thank you.

Motorcycle Safety Institute of S.A. I’d appreciate a video - a picture is worth a thousAnd words. Even when I mount from footpeg, I still hit the passenger seat (Kawasaki Ninja 400), so having a tail bag would make mounting even more difficult. So yes, please make the video, and many thanks . BTW, I’m 5’9” with a 32” inseam.

I own a BMW G310 GS that is not too heavy, I feel like the bike will loose balance when I get on doing it this way, I tried, but I find it very difficult because I am a bit scared I guess. I want to learn it, because the passenger seat is very high for my leg (I am 60 and not so flexible anymore) I will be traveling with a pack in the back so I really need to master this. Can it be that is a maximum to your weight versus the MC weight?
@MotocycleSafety
@MotocycleSafety 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Jeanette. I can really troubleshoot your fear by seeing what you are doing when getting on your bike. But just keep going through the steps: 1. Straighten out the Handlebar 2. Get as close to your bike as possible 3, Make sure, when you place your left foot on the peg, that your knee is against the tank. 4. Look up when you mount, at least until you sit down on the seat. 5. When standing on the peg, bring your body over the tank a little. Finally, TRUST the process. You are more than welcome to send me a short video clip (ask a friend to record your effort), and email it me at - hein@msi.org.za
