This was wonderful! thank you so much! My back button focus stopped working randomly months ago and I couldn't figure out how to fix it. I asked in forums etc, no one could help. I decided to try again and this did it!

Thanks for posting the instructions. I've been using bbf for awhile now.... and was told that you should always shoot in "AFC" mode= what is your opinion?

Can you get back button focus on a Nikon Coolpix P7100 compact which has very similar controls to their DSLRs?

While I use the AF-ON button to focus, I refuse to turn off the focus function on the shutter release. I have 50 years of muscle memory in shooting user the shutter and so unless I am consciously using af-on I still tend to reach for the shutter button. Allocate PV button to spot mode. FN1+ buttons are a distraction to me to use while shooting, although currently FN1 is set to highlight priority. I always shoot Manual with auto Iso. Raw14bit at EV-1 on my Nikons. Nikons are iso invariant and recovering 1EV on import to LR is automatic in my settings.

You also have to switch off the shutter button focus. It is under the autofocus submenu.

I have a question... Can I have TWO buttons set up for focus? I.e. the AE-L button AND the Fn1 button?

Hi thx for teaching about this useful setting. However I must be stupid, I’ve followed the steps but I still have my shutter button focusing before taking the shot, what am I doing wrong?? I’m using a Nikon D7200.

Don’t you also need to keep the camera in AF-C mode for this to work properly? Should you not also turn the AF off for the shutter button? Seems like you only gave half the story here

Hi and how do you set the AF off for the shutter button, because every time i now use the release button it still makes a picture while not sharp
@robinc-k7162 Жыл бұрын
@@dannybrusseel5525 you need to 'uncouple' the shutter button so that it does not try to focus every time you go to take a photo. Go to Custom Settings Menu--> Autofocus-->AF Activation-->select "AF-ON only". Now the focus will ONLY happen when you press the assigned back button.
