Back Creek Cemetery Restoration - Fairmount, Indiana

Back Creek Cemetery sits behind Back Creek Friends Church and contains around 1000 burials, including civil war veterans, 1 war of 1812 veteran, and a confederate veteran. We were on site with Atlas Preservation for their 48 State Tour, a series of classes on cemetery preservation and restoration.

Wow that round-up just makes the cemetery look bad. And I'm surprised the trees around the headstones haven't died.

There are many cemeteries with stones that have fallen due to tree roots and mowers

The care takers should be ashamed for using a weed killer around the grave stones. Looks terrible and nothing to hold the soil together around the stone. No wonder everything is shifting.

Agreed, I just hope using the weed killer is only out of ignorance, and not only laziness… They should have been able to put two and two together… But yeah, some people don’t notice things like that, plus it might just be because of very limited funds, and hiring the cheapest landscaping company to do the work… …Regardless what a shame, good on all you amazing souls getting these graves restored!
