I watch a lot of vinyl videos on KZbin and of the people your age, I'm far and away the most impressed with the stuff you pick up. Speaking as someone who's also let records form a big part of my personality, keep at it - the people you'll meet doing this are going to be some of the best friends of your life. Cheers!

Wow, thank you! I just pick up the records I like. (and occasionally some I’ve never heard if the album cover is cool!) Haven’t met anyone who’s into records yet…besides my grandparents who got me into them, but I hope I can at some point.

Wow! Very nice record haul! I love all the different colors they use nowadays for the records, and the transparent ones are really cool! I'm especially excited about the Hole album!

Yeah, usually I get the last record left and all the colored variants have been picked over but these are super cool! And yes I am excited too about Live Through This!

Good point about record stores when they are busy.. That's why I dig out in the real wild.. Storage units, thrift, second hand shops, collections being sold privately. Your Bikini Kill score is awesome !

I wish I could find the albums I wanna find that way. Seems like no one in my area has any good stuff that they don’t want anymore 😅

I get what you're saying.. I have been thrifting for 20 years solid, and after a while, you get to know the workers and where to go. And always ask.. " Do you have any records?" It really helps ! Also, talking to people you feel safe with.. They might have inexpensive records to let go of.. Good luck with your collecting. You have killer taste !!

First timer to your channel & the very first pickup you highlight is *GBH • City Baby Attacked by Rats.* Damn I like you already. Because that is an absolute classic, in every sense of the word. And once you lay down the needle on it for the very first time, you will know exactly what I am talking about too. Same can be said for the release that started it all, as well. *Discharge • Hear Nothing See Nothing Say Nothing.* Now … *Subscribed!!!* ✌🏼

I like the fact that although you have a preference for metal albums, you enjoy stuff from the 50's and 60's, etc. I think as a musician you need to have a well rounded palette and appreciation for how music evolves and leads you down different paths of discovery. A completely off topic question: Do you listen to any of the glam era music (Sweet, Bowie, T-Rex, etc.)? If you are curious I would suggest New York Dolls first self-titled album. It's very raw and raunchy. Also "Slayed" by Slade, a band that was huge in the UK but not so much the US. And finally "Electric Warrior" by T-Rex. It's a much calmer, quieter album, but lyrically you might find it interesting. Good luck on your musical journey!

Yeah, 50s and 60s music was some of the first music I can remember being exposed to as a toddler, thanks to my grandparents so I’ll always have a love for it. Just metal, metal, metal all of the time would get boring for me. I’m always looking for new music! As for your question, no I don’t really listen to that stuff. Not because I don’t like it or anything, I just haven’t listened to much. I will have to now though!

I have a lot of experience cutting sleeves from tshirts. Can make a huge difference and turn a somewhat unwearable shirt into a weekly favorite. Also, when the sleeves are cut properly, they stay cleaner for longer periods so you can wear a few times before having to wash

I’ve thought about it but I’m afraid to mess up my shirts 😅 I’ll have to practice on some old ones that I don’t like

Are you more drawn to metal or are you more drawn to punk? I like both of course but I remember discovering bands like D.R.I and Suicidal Tendencies as metal bands when I was a teen before discovering that their formative sound was punk (hardcore). I would then gravitate to these bands earlier releases. There's just something more raw and magnetic about bands who's origins were rooted in hardcore punk. I'll name Suicidal Tendencies as a primary example; Yes! Pretty much their entire catalogue is amazing; How Will I Laugh Tomorrow When I Can't Even Smile Today? for example; however, there's something about their debut that is incomparable; hardcore classics like, Institutionalized, I Won't Fall In Love Today and Possessed to name a few... Nothing quite compares to their initial sound. Do you agree? Or do you prefer their progression into their more polished, metal sound? Welcome back btw
@thatmediocreguitarist26 күн бұрын
It honestly changes for me. At first when I was getting into it all, I was just “metal, metal, metal!” I wanted to find heavier and heavier stuff. That kinda made me skip over the pioneer metal classics though, which I’m just now starting to go back and listen to. But recently I’ve definitely been on a punk binge. I think what tipped it for me was finding the hardcore and crossover bands which have the punk attitude but more of the metal heaviness if that makes sense. With a lot of bands like D.R.I. or Suicidal I usually heard their more “metal” sounding albums first and preferred those to the earlier albums, but then the raw punk sound would grow on me and I prefer that more now! I think I got a little burnt out of metal and for the past 6-7ish months I’ve listened to almost exclusively punk. Just now getting back into metal. At the end of the day though, I don’t pay too much attention to labels and just listen. So punk or metal, I don’t care as long as it sounds awesome!

If you like suicidal tendencies early sound may I suggest madball a nyc hardcore band got the punk with metal vibe but man so many metal/punk bands in Australia hit the crossover sound well in the 2000s but most are defunct n hard to find copy’s of anything now it’s all screamo I just don’t vibe with it all , it’s a good feeling finding old stuff u missed n it hit the spot . lol I met Henry Rollins on one of his Og poetry tours he was a very nice individual articulate as fk n that was the day I found out his pre Rollins band rep from my mums friend 😂.
