Herping in Florida is always fun, but late winter set the stage for this trip. Florida is a great spot to get an early start on herping, as the warmer climate is favorable to reptiles and amphibians. This trip did not disappoint! Heading south to go herping near the Florida Everglades was the destination. The endangered Indigo Snake was one of the first finds of the trip. That and the stunning example of the Mud Snake Matt and Siobhan found was another highlight. But the venomous snakes of Florida put in an appearance too!
A colorful example of our old friend the Florida cottonmouth snake was seen, but no, the cottonmouth does not chase anyone in the video. But he was overshadowed by the Eastern Diamondback Rattlesnake the group located! The amazing legless lizards are also included.
Examples of the Florida Invasive Species were out and about too, including the aggressive Tegu Lizard, living under a chicken coup, probably picking off chicks for a snack!
This is just a short list our group found. There will be more trips to go herping in the sunshine state coming soon, so be sure to subscribe!
