I'm an aspiring herper in CO, I'm curious if you have any info about where to go and how to find good road crossing areas.

@@DMoneys36 We’re not from Colorado so I don’t know how much help we would be. Road cruising is just a matter of putting in the hours and seeing what you spot. Other than that, nearby water sources are always a big help

@@DMoneys36 lot of collectors out there. When we travel to a new area we look for habitat and public access, and spend time driving in those areas around and right after dark because the warm pavement attracts critters as things cool off. If we see something we move it off the road

Boy, I've learned that lesson herping, not too many secrets out there. Unless?? You find spots that are hard to get to (i.e., 4 wheel access or hard hiking).

@@randycox7892 thanks! Iit’s 34. 10 of woods the rest is pasture. We are loving it here even if it is a bit of work. Learning curve this year. Think I can make it work better next year after seeing how the birds came in to it. Might go with two or three acres of flowers too

@@airecraft1 not many deer in east Tennessee. We do see a few, but it took some getting used to, not seeing deer eyes glowing when driving at night along the roads and in the fields, not much roadkill either. Going to take sone work to get in them here I think

Sorry, missed your comment when it posted. This was Florida this past spring. Our turkey outfitter also offered hog hunts after you got your shot at a bird. But yes, they are all over everything in the south. I've got two big pigs on camera in our pasture here. Going to have to eventually do something about them. They root things up out there bad in the winter. They are totally nocturnal though, and I'd need a permit for after dark here. Might end up just trapping them and making them into a barbecue item the following morning.

@@antoniowhitworth7527 never had a lot of luck fishing a spot. We went on a rockfish charter and used them once and the bluefish would cut them in half and not get hooked. Reeked in more half spot than anything else

@@dannymcnally6211 yes indeed. We’ve got a patch of sweet corn going too, ended up having to carry 5 gallon buckets of water to it twice a week for about a month. Saved most of it, but lost three or four rows on the outside edges. This is experiment year, figure out what we’re doing and hopefully it will be easier next time around !

If I was a deer, my mouth would be watering walking into that field. There is a lot of groceries in the woods right now so food plots are only marginally attractive to deer for now. I have decent trail cam activity for doe's where I am hunting this year, but the more mature bucks have not showed up. Was not able to hunt this property last year, but year before I had at least four or five 3 1/2 year olds on camera in velvet this time of year. Not sure why they are not patterning here yet. Part of the farm behind this hunting parcel sold to a developer and I am afraid the activity over on that property may have caused more mature deer to move to other areas. We shall see.

awesome!! cant agree more about finding snakes under natural cover VS artificial and on top of that the mountains just have a whole different atmosphere thats so much more addictive than coastal herping to me! Matt, remember the spot i pinned for you to check out for smooth greens/mountain earths? if you take that clear cut all the way down towards the river (about 3 miles) there are 3 separate areas towards the end that have 10-15 rattlers everytime we go! check it out next time you go! looking forward to the next vid!
