Great to see you racing in Cairns, hope Lake Placid goes to plan, and hope to see you in Kona.

If you have an ‘ok’ race (ie. bag over 4500 points) in Lake Placid BUT just miss out on a Kona slot because it will be a stacked field with a lot of top ironman athletes looking to get a KQ, wouldn’t a good ‘Plan C’ be to race Frankfurt (6 slots on offer) and either get a KQ there OR at least put in another ~4500 point race, score some prize money and still place yourself well for the final points tally in the IM series and hence score some pretty decent additional prize money from the bonus pool? I think you may need to ‘build’ your season all the way through to Kona. Remember - there is still 10 weeks after Frankfurt to do a recovery and a complete Ironman build & your best races there seem to be at the end of a pretty solid year of ironman racing. Especially 2022 when you ran a 2.35ish marathon at IM Wales and then outran Sebbie and the rest of the second pack off the bike to jag 5th spot in Kona.

I’ll just play it by ear and see how lake placid goes and how I feel fatigue wise after that. Then make a decision regarding the rest of the season.

Good point about the shoes Joe. I've often wonder why people train in Carbon shoes as you don't then feel the benefit in racing.

You're a good man for keeping it real Joe, but you're talking about not using carbon shoes in training so the legs are stronger. Is that not what all the strenght training with Valere endurance was about, or have you not felt the benefit of that?
@joeskipper91
@joeskipper91 3 ай бұрын
I feel the benefit of the strength training helps with more power for the run and bike so higher watts on the bike especially in an aero position and run. I don’t find it helps with muscle damage due to pounding. The strength training has really helped with my speed and threshold paces but with coping with muscle damage i think that’s specific to the sport so really need to get some long runs in and get more robust.

This man needs a coach, or he’s going to risk the latter part of his career being a missed opportunity.
@joeskipper91
@joeskipper91 3 ай бұрын
Mate a coach isn’t always the answer. I know lots of athletes that have a coach and have gone massively downhill. These coaches are supposed to be regarded as the best in the business as well. I think it’s a misconception that a coach is always the answer.
@Gws525
@Gws525 3 ай бұрын
@@joeskipper91 many have gone downhill, but many have reached their pinnacle with a coach, particularly when working with the better coaches (which I assume you’d get). You won’t find many/ any athletes in any sport at the very top who don’t work with a coach for some aspect of their performance. Also, for you specifically - you haven’t had one either ever or for a long time, and you have yet to get close to your potential. Keep doing what you’ve always done, and no reason for that to change. Get a coach, change things, and at least there’s a chance that that happens.
